Some more detailed shots of the Bad Squiddo Soviet soldier.

I am not flocking the base until I have the lot painted so I can be consistent.

There is a slight discontinuity where the mould faces join on the helmet (and across the face, but that is not as noticeable on this figure).

And a comparison with a Bolt Action Soviet soldier.

At Salute this year I bought a number of the new Rubicon Models personality figures, including Zhukov and Timoshenko.

Here is the sprue, leaflet and supplied bases (I used a Renedra 25mm base for my build).

Here is the completed figure in front of a Rubicon T34/76.

And a size comparison.

It does look a bit small, and of a more realistic stature than either the Bolt Action or the Bad Squiddo figures. I should have taken a photograph of it next to a Perry figure.

At SELWG I bought a small 28mm scale terraced house from Sarissa Precision.

It is a nice simple kit of MDF and card that goes together nicely.
I used Rustoleum Rust effect spray to provide some texture to the outer walls (having masked the roof and windows).
Army Painter Skeleton Bone spray was used for the walls, the bricks were painted (over a Humbrol Desert Tan mortar) individually with Vallejo paints from a wet palette.

It is definitely a building to fight round rather than through (being one up, one down). It is also tiny, I think it will fit inside a room in one of the Woodbury houses.

Definitely going to get some more, they are reasonably cheap so is the sort of thing to tack onto another buy.

Re: UVS WW2 WIP: Opel Blitz 23/12/2018

I recently bought the Warlord Opel Blitz from The Gameskeeper in Oxford.

I had previously bought the Tankograd book when the two kits came out, but the Warlord one was the first one I had got round to building.

The kit goes together well, with the exception of the bonnet/roof which could do with being able to be kept separate so you can paint the cab interior. I made do with leaving the doors off (the radiator grille overhangs the bonnet so the bonnet/roof part needs to be assembled at the same time - advantage of the Rubicon slide mould cab).

William Killian for scale.
The kit comes with printed clear material for the windows, the inside of the door has a tiny lip to take the window (I know it is there, but even under magnification I could not see it - your eyesight may vary). Having fluffed cutting and shaping it to fit, I gave up and left it off - either the driver cleans the windows religiously or they are broken.

The Balkenkreuz was added because the side view was rather dull, there is a photograph on page 16 of a Blitz with the Balkenkreuz - though it points out that it is rare.

I have noticed a few areas that under flash photography show gaps in the weathering, I will need to fix that.

Thanks.

Here are some additional photographs (natural light and after fixing a few issues).

The headlights and the Notek still need a bit of a tidy.

I now need another one for my motorised infantry platoon.

The Africa Korps will get the Rubicon version.

Re: UVS WW2 WIP: Labours of Hercules 23/01/19

The crew of the Sherman VC "Hercules" gained fame after their epic battle against a Tiger Tank in the Normandy village of Nemea.

Most of A Squadron were either beaten back or casualties, but Hercules made it into the village. There are two versions of what happened next.

In one version, even the fabled 17 pounder could not penetrate the Tiger's impregnable hide. Eventually, the crew scored a direct hit down the muzzle of the 88mm gun, blowing out the breech and detonating the Tiger's ammunition.

In the second version, Hercules out-manoeuvred the Tiger. first jamming the turret and then immobilising it. They then moved in to beat the Tiger to death at close range.

To commemorate their victory, the track from the Tiger and other tanks that met their end from their 17 pounder were draped upon the tank.

The Warlord Games Sherman VC has been fitted with the spare tracks from the Rubicon Tiger tank, plus track from the Rubicon German Stowage set.

A gun travel lock from the Rubicon Sherman I Hybrid replaces the moulded on travel lock. A cross brace was added so it looked more like the real thing.

As this is a fictional vehicle, I decided that the Division Insignia had been painted out by the censor.

Great idea! Loving your version of "Hercules"! Also have to agree with the previous comments about stowage, adds a lot of character, and your vehicles show that!  :-*

So I have the first of the Empress Inter-War/Early War British infantry painted.

As suggested here, I painted the mug Army Painter Stone Golem highlighted with Citadel White Scar.

I have another fifteen undercoated.

Great work but that is rather a bad mould mismatch issue on the puttees on the right leg. Are they all like that?
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
