LITKO Basing non aerial 3mm units
« on: January 19, 2017, 09:07:31 PM »
Looking to base my 3mm/1:600 AFVs and other land units.  Thinking platoon bases for vehicles except F.O. And the like.  Infantry probably by squad or maybe Fire Teams.

the key question right now what size LITKO bases.  I will be storing them in Kaiser Rushforth foam trays and cardboard cases.

If I go with “R” format trays then the bases could be 20mm squares or 10mm x 20mm rectangles.  The depth could be 23mm IIRC.

If I go with “Q” format trays then I could expand the bases to 20mm x 25mm compartments in 23mm depth which would allow more details on the basing.

Then “P” format trays would allow 21mm x 30mm compartments with a 23mm depth which would begin to get into mini-dioramas for them.

Or the “M” format rays would allow 25mm x 40mm basing which is definitely mini-diorama level or two 20mm x 25mm bases in a 23mm deep compartment.

Finally I could go with the x610 format trays which have 10mm deep compartments of either (M) 40mm x 25mm compartments, (F) 32mm x 52mm compartments, (N) with 50mm x 25mm compartments, (P) 30mm x 21mm, (Q) with 25mm x 20mm compartments, or (R) with 20mm x 20mm compartments…

Too many factors!  Somebody help me sort this out, please.  What size bases might work best for basing my 3mm units (currently, Cold War/WW2 and ACW but may move into other eras) for Historical, plus Science Fiction, and Fantasy genres.
