My apologies, I just read the date on your post and didn't realise you had been collecting for the project for such a long time.
I have several similar projects of my own :)

No worries, Nic. I ground to a halt around 2012 and started working on scenery instead, then life got in the way. You know how it is! I've got more done last month than I did in the past five years so buying some of your miniatures for my BMP-3s might not be so far away...

Well thanks again for posting. It looks like a Yugoslav Wars/Balkan imaginations conflict is starting to take shape with another on here, which means not just painting but also gaming with that. Will make an effort on photos/blogging.

I'm also playing about in this period with a modern UN vs. generic african republic, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!

It took a while to find time to work on them, but here are the finished T-72BMs at last:

Zvezda’s 1/100 ‘Hot War’ tanks are lovely but they’re basically just giant game counters so they have no machine guns. In a moment of madness I made a bunch of them. The cage armour is made with ‘N’ scale fencing from Ratio. If you want more info, there are various blog posts about assembling and painting the tanks here, here and here, and photos of each of the four finished tanks here.

Next on the list is basing two MTLBs that have been pretty much finished for a while, then I think I’ve run out of excuses to avoid tacking the infantry…

Nice.

Interesting cage armour.

How did you make the machine guns?

Agree - nice stuff. And it always feels good to see (your own or other's projects) to be finished after a time on the painting table as it were.

I like the Zvezda kits - I've pimped some of the BTR-80s into BTR-80As quite easily.

Thanks, folks!

Ultravanillasmurf – the guns are made from tiny Plastruct strips and rods. I never bothered photographing the process because I didn't think anybody would want to spend the time and money on trying it, and because my camera phone at the time just couldn't capture something so small.

von Lucky – I know what you mean! I recently painted some old Games Workshop miniatures that I'd had for twenty years. I still look at them with disbelief, like I've somehow ended up with somebody's else miniatures. Have you posted those those converted BTR-80As anywhere? I wouldn't mind a nosy at them.

Will be finishing them off in the next month (they're M163 VADS proxies for Team Yankee). Will post... 2017 is supposed to be the year of actually blogging.

Re. MGs - the Battlefront Team Yankee come with spare plastic MGs, and I've also used Soviet ones from Battlefront IS-2s on a T-55 from QRF (anything to pimp that blob of lead).

I've rediscovered my password for my old Flickr account, so I've moved a walkthrough of how I created my first building to my blog. I made it back in 2011 so apologies in advance for the poor quality photos.

The next thing on my list is a pair of MT-LBs towing mortars. The PVA glue has dried white for some reason so I have to strip the bases. Bah!

A lovely little build (with some nice hints and tips) and the roof extension is a nice touch.

Here are a couple of Old Glory MT-LBs for my Russians, towing 120mm mortars. The PVA glue dried white for some reason so I had to strip the bases and re-do them. I hate doing things twice so it took me over a month to get round to buying some new glue and re-flocking the bases. Anyhoo, here are the finished miniatures:

As usual, there are more pictures on my blog: http://nerdlard.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/two-mtlbs-and-towed-120mm-mortars.html

When things go wrong it blunts my enthusiasm for a project so I have a small terrain piece to finish first, then I'm going to switch to another project for a while.

Nicely (re)done. The additional stowage looks good too.

(As an aside, this thread was a major motivation in me finally painting a few things in a similar theme for our first game in mid-August.)
