While a lot less historical, I've enjoyed Of Gods & Mortals. It goes more into the fantastical elements of myths rather than the more real world stuff.

I have the GW background but I don't mind trying something new. I would like to eventually play Larger than 40-60 models. I will check out sword and spear, along with the others that have been mentioned. Thanks for all the guidance!

Armati 2....excellent and in the main the armies you need aren't huge.

To the Strongest is a good option for large games.
"Some scientists say that humans exhibit a behavior called neophilia, which is a preference for new objects. It’s why we like shiny new things."

Basic Impetus can be downloaded for free

Basic Impetus is it's own game now and you have to buy it. That said it's a great and I highly recommend it and the full version of Impetus.

... and it would definitely scratch the "trying something different " itch: grid based and all card driven (no dice).

Another recommendation here for Swordpoint. The combat system is similar enough to WAB to feel familiar, but without the 'super-powered' characters. Swordpoint also has some nice innovations in the use of Momentum tokens and mechanics rewarding the maintenance of a cohesive battle line.

Cheers,

If you are looking at only 40-60 models a side that's quite a small battle.
Games likes Sword & Spear or To the Strongest or Black Powder normally require about a dozen units a side, each with 8-32 figures - so you are looking at 200-300 figures a side.
However, all of those rules operate with 'units' - you don't need to remove figures, so you could put 4 figures on a sabot base and use that as your unit, then even 60 figures would give you a decent sized army.

I play DBMM regularly. I have played, and will play later this year, a bit of Impetus. I have also played To The Strongest, and recently, ADLG.

The latter two are well worth looking into, if you don't have a preference in your local group.

Both Basic Impetus and full Impetus are excellent!
