Steam powered Patrol/Gun boat
« on: June 06, 2023, 11:16:14 PM »
Here's another scenery piece. Originally started last November but due to the intervention of an 8.5 kilo Forrest Cat. It's only just been repaired and finished( ish) this evening.

I'm glad you all like it.
As it genuinely near ended up in the bin. The original version of the Hull had the bow squashed flat by the lump of an animal. Halfway through painting. Once I'd glued it back into place and sanded the joints. It was less than an oil painting.,and paper thin( no pun intended)  So I figured what the heck I'll mess with it and see where it takes me.If it doesn't work I've only delayed it's trip to the bin,and learned something on the way.

Jon, The whole model was inspired by the pigmies you gave me.( I know the Europeans are technically Belgian. But they work for me,)

The cat.astrophe notwithstanding, that turned out rather nice. I'm not quite convinced by the sidewheels, them being a bit small makes them look like an afterthought, but the overall size and proportions are spot on for 28mm.

A spot of "Nate and Hayes" there?  ;) A ludicrous film overall, but that gunboat was something else. Looking forward to seeing more of that project once you get around to it.

 Chris,
Your spot on with the Paddle housings. They are slightly undersized for a model of such a ship. Daft as it sounds I didn't make a model ship. I made a "Posh Hill" The whole project is designed to make as many playable areas and level's as I could squeeze into the space and end up with something mildly plausible.

It's possible to balance figures on the supports either side of the paddle cover ( most of my stuff is on 25mm rounds),and on the boat cover on the stern.
The Paddle housing diameter is slightly shorter than my index finger . So I can always push a figure base along the deck if one gets stuck under the superstructure.
That's honestly about as much thought I gave it before building.
Even the collapsible boats were an after thought. As I didn't think the sides of the upper deck was going to last long in a game.
Still contemplating making a few search lights to hide the warped areas either side of the wheel house .
Von,
I'm glad you like it. I think over on my workbench thread I've a couple of the old GW hills I've tweaked to work both as hills and islands for this project.

Perfectly reasonable, and I pretty much always do the same (i.e. condensed footprint area, and just tall enough to look right with the figures) with scenery and items like this. Just an observation, it doesn't really detract from the overall effect.

Superb... the only boat similar ive ever seen built is the Gingo 40s French one.

You should sell them on commission, they are certainly a high enough quality to fetch a handsome price.

A pleasure to see, thanks.

Tis a tragic tale you've told; you do have our condolences and admiration for soldiering on to such delightful results!

I will point out, though, if you are going to store your catnip in ongoing projects...  lol

As for scale models on the table, we only need invoke the spirit of Major General Tremorden Rederring, and it's ALL good.
