[Crowdfunding] Trollkins
« on: February 10, 2017, 11:13:27 AM »
Crowdfunding for casting some 1/1 scale trollkins in resin.

Simple, fast, and possibly the first step for something bigger and better:

Some very characterful sculpts there, but you may be treading on someone else's trademark (or is it copyright?) with that name.  Pretty sure Privateer Press has "trollkin" sewed up, even if yours don't bear any real resemblance to theirs.  Might want to contact them and make sure before you proceed.

Yeah, you're right, I have to contact them, although Indiegogo told me there was no problem about that. Just to be sure even if it's like "dwarf" or "elf" terms, because PP didn't invented it.

Looks like you're right. I only had seen an art book using the term so I supposed it was "free to use". Those figures make it clear.

Well, I was going to say this page

http://privateerpress.com/company/trademarks-and-copyrights

answers the question (Privateer has "Trollbloods" sewed up but not trollkin) but this just raises the question of whether Chaosium or one of their inheritors has a copyright/trademark.  Definitely worth checking on, the term is nowhere near as generic as "elf" or "dwarf" is in legal terms.  They're nice greens, hate to see them run afoul of a lawsuit.

Now how did I forget the Gloranthan version?  Nose-Biter's Feet was an old favorite NPC back in the day.  :)

I agree! I'm suprised no one has thought of it before! It makes me think of Terry Pratchett's Nome series Truckers!

It would make scenery easy! Just play across your dining room table! Maybe a take on a LOTR Battle of the Five Sarnies! Fighting for the one true (cooker) ring! Or a naval battle, Battle of Midway(Between the Sink and the Toilet)! Waterloo might be a dangerous game to play with your miniatures! :o

I think my army would be called the Roman (Bath) Army! They're a shower of good guys! lol

Kenzer's Fairy Meat game (and minis range) was also 1/1 scale.  Pity it's mostly defunct these days, would have made for some interesting crossover potential.  As I recall their fairies were mostly about 25mm tall and operated in small warbands like a Mordheim crew, but they had some fairly huge (4-5" maybe?) gnome minis, mostly with a weird clockwork-cyborg style.  They were usually solo figs with the option to take some minions/clockwork creations.

I have a bunch of the Fairy Meat figures. They are mostly between about 35-40mm. But I also use a number of other fairy figures that range anywhere from 20mm to about 50mm. We even use the small scale Disney toy fairies. Tink & crew have been devastating on the other fairy bands. I think these will a great asset to this game.
