New Victorian Vigilantes!
« on: February 10, 2017, 01:12:02 PM »
I wanted a character like Rorschach from the Watchmen but the term doesn't exist pre-twentieth century. Then a memory from earliest childhood bubbled up, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh! This was a movie about a preacher by day, masked fighter of injustice by night set in the late 18th cen. So here's my Scarecrow. A down and dirty crime fighter in the East End. His motto is No Mercy to Crime and he's the terror of the underworld. The fig is from Brigade Games Western line, one of their Bushwhackers.

Lovely painting - I like the grittiness you've captured.

Michi, von Lucky thank you for the kind words. Michi that was one heck of a link I have to start looking at other forums! This pic shows the
Scarecrow with another Victorian Vigilante, Capt. Crimson. Crimson is a Batman/The Shadow analogue, wealthy playboy by day, gadget laden crime fighter by night. The Captain is by Ironclad Miniatures part of their VSF character line. I painted him years ago.

Ah, also some of my favorite childhood memories, and glad for knowing, as it directed me to later Patrick McGoohan work that I enjoyed VERY much. Especially Secret Agent/Danger Man into The Prisoner.

A few play sessions trying to reprise some episodes did lead to a certain hoarseness, though.  :D

Be interested to hear some of what the Cap't has in his version of the Bat Belt. Carmine Cumberbun? Scarlet Sash? Blood-red Bandoleer?

I like how your mind works Doug. I've decided on Capt. Crimson's Compartmentalized Cummerbund. The photos show Capt. Crimson by his Electric Carriage, The Crimson Flash and his Areonef, The Crimson Sky. The third member of The Watch is J'onn J'onzz, a Green Martian who stowed away during the Cephalopoda Incursion. He's a Victorian Martian Manhunter. The vehicles are toys from the movie The Golden Compass. On a non related note, I recently acquired a pound or two of MageKnight figs Any tips for getting the minis off the base?

Totally awesome!

*ahem* Sorry, I momentarily forgot myself.

Bit of all right, that, sirrah.

I had some of those toys, never used them, but they do look delightful next to your lads.

For the deflowering MK process, I usually just take a knife, half slide/half pry the fig from the base. I've heard chilling in the fridge/freezer helps.

Take it slow; some pop off easily, some challenge.

New Victorian Vigilante, Megaera, or as she's known in the press, The Red Fury. The fig is from the late great Parroom Station . She was their not Rebecca Fogg mini. I view her as a Victorian Black Widow type. She was in a box half painted for over a decade, so a collaborative effort between my past and present selves. These are my Victorian crime fighters, The Watch. From l-r, Capt. Crimson, Steam Knight, Megaera , Scarecrow and The Jade Man. They are from several companies and the Jade Man is over twenty years old. He's from Shadow Run an RPG from the 90s.

I'm friggin' in LOVE! And, no, I won't apologize!

Alas, bittersweet as no longer available...  :'(

And, lad, sorry, but don't be watching the mailbox too closely; ship hasn't sailed yet. Been wanting to add a bit to confound you...

Keep an eye out for Scoresby's ship, as well. I think it came in at least two toys, a tiny not-for-15mm-or-28mm, and a 'would look awesome beside some of your own great work.'
