PolderCon 2017: 3rd edition a great success!
« on: February 13, 2017, 07:20:34 AM »
Yesterday I attended the third edition of PolderCon in Utrecht (NL) to run my Barsoom game, chat and look in awe at all the beautiful tables. An impression:

Poldercon 2017 was another resounding succes! 8)

I had an absolute blast; I played four great and fun games, met lots of nice people, both old and new, and ogled loads, loads of eye candy. A great day all around.

For me, it even topped last year's experience and I will be sure to sign up again for the next edition! :)

Looks brilliant! Thanks for posting. How does it compare in size with Crisis?

First thing that comes to mind is that it is much smaller. There were about 150 people attending.

There were however about 30 participation games, all meant to be played by the visitors (and booked in advance if you wanted) all hosted by someone acquainted with the rules. A visitor gets four games and a lunch. There are only two traders present.

PolderCon is very much meant to go there and play wargames.  :)

To me most wargaming cons are a lot like markets, mostly stands selling very tempting goods and maybe a Christmas tree or something for show. Plus people giving demo's of things they are trying to sell you. Mind you I do enjoy this, but note how many people already feel the pain in their wallets even before a con has started.

Poldercon on the other hand, feels like a highlight reel of wargaming club days. You know how every now and again a member has a great idea for a participation game and then actually delivers? This was like you took those rare occasions and combined them into a single day, a room filled with 20 games you all desperately want to play on beautiful tables ran by friendly witty and capable people who want to show you a fun game, but have little interest in actually selling it.

It was great.
Gorgeous tables and wonderfull people.
I got to taste a few new systems with beautifull mini's.

Hats of to L.A.F's own Malebolgia, who's busy creating his own system.
I dare say his 'open beta' already impressed me more than the established systems I played that day.
Chrome warriors is looking to become a game with deep game play and elegant rules and is certainly one I'll be watching.
