See what?

I see a lawn.  lol lol

talk about stealth....

Shame about the lawn 'burn' there; some nasty brown spots, though fairly localized...  lol

Seriously, if you want that to 'blend', you'll need my lawn.

So as I stumble around the LAF universe I found myself here and decided to drop of a picture of a Prussian Airship I made about ten years ago. It was a lot of fun I have since made several others, this thread may have me dusting off the plans I had for the belgian Airship sadly never made...all the supplies are ready at the depot, just need to whip the elves into shape!

I did no weathering on the ship as I felt that it was either on its maiden voyage or that as the pride of the fleet it would always be in tip top shape. You can see a step by step build on my somewhat out of date website http://www.historicalhobbies.com go to the GASLIGHT section.

There are two pins that when pulled allow the bottom section of the gondola to be dropped off as a sort of base station while the airship leaves (operated from inside control area) to scout or resupply. There is also a basket type small gondola that can be lowered via chain hoist to let a scout or lookout down, pick up passengers, ect...

There is little armament on the ship other than the forward gun turret that has a gatteling gun but it is magnetically mounted and cannon or other weapons can be mounted instead. There are also bomb racks and room for 2 squads of 10 Schutztruppen.

I've the Lego airship, and have never transformed it. Seen too many folk doing such magic, that it gets me all discouraged...  ;)

Pleased you persevered with the Brit 'nef, in spite of the travails. Still, too lovely.

What sort of monster is this Belgian yet-to-be? Sure to be a terror, no doubt!

Do continue...

"I also finally used pointy funnel shaped bit that had been kicked around my workbench for at least 5 years. I think I got it in a doctor’s office."

Every time the doctor has a look in my ear or up my nose, I want to capture one of those. I shall be more diligent next month!

Hey Doug,

Never be discouraged by what others do and think "why bother I'll never do that good" I learn every day how to do things better sometimes its me just figuring it out for myself but many times its by others examples!

You must have seen the British Airship on the website I do not think I ever posted it here.... a bear of a project!

The Belgian will be more lovely than terrible. I feel the armament of these ships should not be that powerful, the mere fact that the were airborne was terror in itself since there was as yet no easy way to shoot them down. I'm really hoping to find a 28mm version of Hercule Poirot the Belgian Detective I can modify to be my ship captain.

The pointy bit that is on the end of the Prussian ship is now that I think about it from a cheap 12volt air pump made to fill beach balls and such. I did how ever snatch dozens of those smaller versions over the years from doctors offices, seems in my area they are no longer used! I used some of these on various other projects over the years. speaking of those bits here is a related project that I did use them on!

Check out the "mini me's" I made as escorts for the Prussian blimp...Not long after building the Prussian Airship "Himmel Koenig" and running it at several conventions I felt that I needed more fire power for it since other later airships I had built were better gunned and I had also bought some "Sheltrum" Balloonist and wanted them to be "Prussian" balloonist.  I was never happy with the Sheltrum kits but found some useful stuff in them. So I set about collecting bits and pieces for my next project. After about a year of thinking and collecting I came up with this modification of the Sheltrum balloonist.

The entire Sheltrum Balloon was thrown away as well as its props and some of the rigging. The entire "Balloon area is hand made  (plastic egg, doctors thermometer disposable cover, and communion cup!) as well as the prop, rigging, and rudder sections. The figures arm were modified and control sticks constructed. Bomb dropping apparatus was scratched out of the parts bin and other little custom touches completed the model or should I say "two" models as I built two identical (almost) models one named the WESPE ( Wasp) and one called HORNISSE (Hornet). They now fly escort for my larger Prussian Airship.

PS: by the way Doug would you forgive me for "pissing in your cornflakes" if I offered you the "Froggy" bio-fleet I bought before you got a chance to? I realize that I have to many ships as it is andI will probably never use them, they are lovely but need to go where they will be used not sit in my case..... just what I paid and shipping.

Finally I have got my meagre forces airborne.

A few photos of my Sanwar skiff and English scouts.

The skiff is scratch built and was due to have balloons at the ends of the cross brace but I could not get them to look right.

The scouts are upgraded and up gunned Ironclad aeronefs that I picked up, cheap, at Colours last year. :D
