Plethora of Interwar and WWII Swedish tanks
« on: February 17, 2017, 05:07:57 PM »
I visited our local defense museum this summer with the prejudice position that it would be amatuerish anf paultry. How wrong was I!
The museum sports an *impressive* array of tanks and armoured vehicles and artillery pieces, especially from the interwar and WWII era. In retrospect, the reason for this is quite obvious: Gotland has always been of very high strategic value to Sweden and the have been aroured regiments here since that branch was developed within the Swedish defence forces. Unfortunately ther is no Stridsvagn m/21-29 (Leichter Kampfwagen II) as it was never deployed on Gotland (its strategic role was that of anti-insurrection deployment) but there are plenty of other imported and domestic riveted behemoths. Vickers, Landverks, Skoda, Scania, Volvo, Bofors etc.

Their homepage idoes unfortunately not come in an English version but the photo gallery can be seen here:

I can only agree! It looks as though they have driven them out into the car park especially for you! Did you get a go driving any of them? ;)

Sorry but no. For years and years there was a pink painted Panzer 38(t) (skoda tank, LT vz. 38 or Stridsvagn m/41)  with a knotted barrel parked in a field outside a farm close to where I live. I suppose it was some kind of peace statment. I was considering making a bid for it, for a restoration project, but then not to long ago someone beat me to it.
