What colour(s) do you people use for the greenish-grey of WWII Wehrmacht uniforms?

I just got myself a whole bunch of Osprey titles covering the last years of WWI to the first years of WWII  :mrgreen:
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Oh dear, thatīs quite a bone of contention...

My preferred method for ease of painting:

1. Basecoat white or black, depending on if you wish the final look to be bright or dull.
2. Then paint a thorough coat of Vallejo WW2 German Uniform on the field blouse.
3. Wash using Vallejo WW2 German Grey (which is Panzer Grey, to my mind).
4. Highlight using a mix of Vallejo German Uniform and some light Khaki tone, I use Vallejo Khaki Grey and Vallejo Buff for the final highlight.

The pics ainīt too good, but thatīs pretty much the final look:

I agree about the grey - definitely meant for vehicles.

I'l be having a look at the Vallejo colours when visiting the nearest local games store.

Thanks!

Wupps!  Sorry Chris!

In detail:
- Basecoat black
- Vallejo German uniform out of the bottle
- paint in German grey into the creases
- highlight with German uniform + a bit of white

Sorry Chris.
I was replying to Argonor's first question on the colour to use.
I did not think about the detailed steps.

Great minds think alike! :lol:

I have to say that German Uniform from Vallejo must be one of the MOST USEFUL paints ever. I absolutely HATE to mix that tone - I mean, Panzer Grey is easy, but Feldgrau ist damn difficult to achieve.

It's gray, obviously. Otherwise, it would be Feldgrun.  :D

Memories of seeing the color prints in Paul Carrel's book "Hitler Moves East 1941-1943" give me the impression that it was slightly more green than grey.  Too bad I don't have access to a copy of that book.

Jup, Wehrmacht Feldgrau is definitely a Green-Grey, but since I donīt have the RAL code at hand, I canīt comment on the definite tone. From my sources and personal experience (museums), Vallejoīs interpretation is the closest.

Another question:

Osprey shows some uniforms all grey,
some with only the jacket,
none with the breeches in 'Feldgrau'.

Any known evidence to only jackets - and not all - and never breeches - being Feldgrau? (Osprey isn't always quite accurate,
as my studies in the Napoloeonic period has shown)

I either use Foundry's Palette and Vallejo

Storm green Palette (the problem is that Storm green A and B are very similar not say identical while Storm Green C is far too light.)

Method 1
* Storm green A + Vallejo German Grey
* Storm green B
* Storm green B + Storm Green C

Method 2
* Vallejo german Uniform + German Grey
* German Uniform
* German Uniform + Storm Green C

On this picture, the field uniform are painted with the 1st method while the long coat are painted with the 2nd method.
