A Vauban fort (Part 1) - the Gate
« on: March 07, 2017, 05:46:01 AM »
For years I wanted to have a Vauban Fort for our League of Augsburg/WSS/SYW wars...
Two years before, I found the courage to construct one, having in mind my Siege of Vienna 1683 project (coming soon).

In this post I have the joy to share with you the Vauban gate I made.

I searched the web to find a picture of a well preserved gate to use it as a guideline.
The gate I liked most, was the Gate of Constantinople, from the fort of Belgrade.

I made a hinged door from balsa.
Many hands of paint and drybrush to show the grain of the wood.

The back side is completely conjectural.

Some more details. The wall is stucco and photoshopped paper.

Beautiful work.  A gate simply crying out to be stormed!  I am building a Vauban fortification and gateway for Sharp Practice, but it won't be as beautiful as your one.  Jealous...

It was a sunny afternoon and I put the object between the camera lens and the window, so I let the sun rays pass through the door slits  :)

Very nice work! The red brick details are a nice extra touch. The brickwork is from paper?
