Dr. Moreau, New, Loup de Guerre!
« on: March 11, 2017, 12:35:50 PM »
H.G. Wells' Dr. Moreau. The mini is a Reaper Bones Alchemist, about 32mm. The sculpts costume reminded me of a cross between bomb disposal and attack dog training armor. Loads of detail. The second pic shows the Doctor with one of his experiments. It's a WestWind cat by blow (their description) that I painted as a were jaguar a couple of years ago. The needle of his syringe has never straightened. I tried various means but it always goes back to curved.

Properly scary dude!

The curved needle is required to pass around some bones to get to the proper glands with out mortal injury.  ;)

Is that a BattleMasters castle in the background?

Indeed it is Doug! I've acquired several over the years. Here are some better pics of the cat.

Orangutan de Guerre! Dr. Moreau's project for the French Government. The figure is a Reaper Bones Ape X. It was a lot of fun to paint. The miniature is very large, 54mm, you can see in the last pic it's next to a 32mm Reaper fig for scale.

A local hobby shop started carrying Reaper Bones figures. It was the first time I saw them in person and I thought the price vs quality trade off was acceptable. I ordered several more Bones minis through the shop. This is how Ape X arrived. They had not put enough plastic in the mold to complete the mini. I don't know if this was a one off or if it's a bigger issue. Because I ordered it through the shop it took awhile to get here. I was disappointed but in the end decided I could live with it. Just a heads up to you sirs and madams in case your thinking about ordering from the Bones line.

Our store have had a fair number of returns, though I'm surprised at that. We're usually seeing a limb or other loose part missing, or 'two left feet'.

I'm not aware of mis-casts, though I'll ask the manager.

Loup de Guerre! Dr. Moreau's latest masterpiece. The totally repainted plastic mini is from the late great HeroScape. I was lucky enough to find a complete game with a lot of supplemental figures at a thrift store several years ago. In my vaguely thought out VSF world Dr. Moreau works for France developing biomechanical weapons to counter the threat of Germany's automata and England's retro-engineered Martian tech.
