With the release of Osprey's The Men Who Would Be Kings ruleset, The Northerners have found themselves (amongst other things) catapulted into the halcyon days of the 1870s on the frontier. We made a concious decision to go for 20mm to a) keep costs down b) not get bogged down into painting too much detail and c) allow for maximum scope for table use on a 6x4 board (and the availability of 00 gauge railway stuff for scenery for said table!)
Fellow Northerner John has already finished his British force, while I lag behind drastically. Impetus to get a shift on has been added by virtue of us being volunteered into putting on a Demo game at Carronade this year (would've been nice to be asked first...!). With this in mind I'll probably abandon my Brits after the first unit's been finished in order to concentrate on the Pathans, and making some appropriate scenery; I've already made a start on a hill fort, which I'll probably mangle horribly prior to the show...
Anyway, the toys thus far (with suitably horrible pictures, i'm afraid...)
British line infantry. Figures are by Newline Designs, from their Sudan range. I've filed off the helmet detail to beter represent the covers worn in India. The Webbing has some inconistencies, but at 20mm, isn't as noticable as might be the case, and certainly not at 3 feet distant...
