Can see both points, obviously, by style, but does either Wolfsung or Warmachine have flyers?

I don't think Wolsung does, ruleswise. WARMACHINE has some winged models so I assume there is something but maybe not for flying machines. Been a while since I went through either one's rules tho and in any case it was probably a version or ten back in either case.

I was personally thinking aesthetics solely, the airships should be useful as scenario objectives or special terrain.

I like 'em. Even if you don't like them as they are they have a lot of conversion potential. Even built as designed without conversion I'd imagine they could work well in a VSF setting with human crew and a less gaudy paintjob (either dowdy old Ocean Grey or Military Grey depending on mood).
Won't be cheap, but there are lots of places to get GW stuff with 20% off and I've been very impressed with the quality of sculpt and robustness of recent GW offerings.

I think a lot of wargamers have a knee jerk 'I hate this!' reaction to anything GW. If these models had been kickstarted by some small obscure company I think the reactions would be quite different. Just my opinion of course-no offense meant
