Different Airfield ideas.
« on: March 16, 2017, 04:58:39 PM »
Like a lot of people I've been toying with the idea of game based around an airfield. But finding affordable builds and the general size of aerodrome buildings.
So I've taken a different approach and spent some time reading on remote airfields and came up with some interesting Pulp styled images, and easier to build aerodrome buildings such as nose hangers.

I believe there is a decent plasticville hanger that looks like one from the 20's or 30's

This is a good idea. Do you mind if we put suitable photos on this thread?

I'm more than happy for anyone to add ideas and photographs,in fact the more the merrier.

Super quick make a HO card Hanger/bus station.Which simply needs repainting and the door enlarged ( not a big job. You simply don't add the steps and widen the door without changing the original lintel height.)

Though no-one has an image with a gaming figure...
This lot: https://www.ecardmodels.com/index.php/u-f-o-models-various-types-paper-model.html have a papercraft hangar, but the nameplate is spelled incorrectly. Maybe it's alien spelling? Smeg knows what scale it is.

I have searched long for a hangar kit even in aircraft modelling scales, but not turned up anything economical for a gaming model.

Try flying clubs? But then, if they had aircraft stored on the premises, they would still need a hangar.

Inglewood terminal.

Yes, right behind the apron there is the pub. Birdsville.

Kings Creek Station.
If it's such a small bush operation, the "hangar" may just be a barn or machinery shed.

Elk101, that bottom photo looks like Lukla? I've been in a light aircraft landing and taking off from there, it's a very, very scary experience!   :o

Lukla strip is longer, although equally scary.

http://www.traveller.com.au/up-up-and-afraid-25i7n It was a dirt/gravel strip when I was there

And that is a slope on the runway!

Shadowbeast.
The plasticville hanger is quite a regular model here a quick trawl through Pulp and you'll come across it ,with both figures and planes. Which will give you a better idea of scale.
These card models are above average and used corrugated card to give them some real texture. The control tower comes in around £20 and the hanger £25. In 1/72 and 1/48.( plus they're available on eBay).
