Empress SCW Legionnaires
« on: March 20, 2017, 05:44:31 AM »
Hello All,

Looking to build a sizeable Nationlist army based around SFL.
As Empress only has a few limited packs available is there any other packs in the range that I can utilize to bulk the Legionnaires platoons out with?

Many thanks,
Nick

I have to build up my SFL to a platoon and will be using both the Falange and Nationalist infantry, those in granadero trousers, packs, the only stand out difference being that they will have army leather equipment. I have seen one photo of a legionaire with this, how common it was I don't know, there is at least one posed picture with a legionaire in a steel helmet but I shall refrain from having any of my legionaires with such an unmanly item  ;).
More knowledgeable folk will be along to help in due course.

It all really depends on what period of the war you are depicting.
If its the early period, up to the March on Madrid, then the Tercio would have most of their Army of Africa kit, so that would be the pouches that look like the old Mills pattern kit. The Tercio was expanded by a number of banderas after that, and the equipment was pretty much hit and miss, some legionnarios got the older kit, some got the regulation army kit...In the book by Frank Thomas, he said all he got was a shirt, a hat,a rifle, and a pair of trousers, his pouches came off the body of a dead Republican soldier, along with a greatcoat.
Empress packs, use the Falange packs to bulk out your Legion force, if you are happy to look at other ranges, Burns Miniatures has Legion in 28mm for the SCW, and Askari Miniatures has some useable figures in their range too.

Thank you both for your helpful information, I've gone with the Falange to bulk out the legion.
