Roman Republic / Garibaldi contingent
« on: March 28, 2017, 10:35:22 PM »
A bit obscure this.  Taking a step back to Rome 1849, what figures could be used for the Republicans? I'm guessing piccioti, some Spanish guerillas, possibly irregulars from the carlist war range and maybe a few garibaldini (but not in red shirts apparently) and a few Sardinian bersiglieri.

On a similar note, I'm thinking communards could be general late 19th civs, with a few semi uniformed Kepi types in there.

Am I totally off course?

What scale are you planning to work in?

28mm Shipka! I have some Crimean era French, OK 11 of them, but I'm not fussy and I don't need large armies as I'd use "Scum of the Earth".

The Siege of Rome has fascinated me since A level history and I'm kind of interested in the Commune. I'm well aware that both episodes don't end well but that's not what it's about. There's a bit of imagi-nation in there too.

The Communards included large numbers of uniformed garde nationale and franc-tireur troops, including entire battalions/companies.

I will be commissioning some figures from Steve Barber, which will be suited for the Defenders of Rome

Aha! Now that's interesting - will they be generally available?

As and when yes, they will be included in Steve Barbers Europe in Revolution range, under the heading Italian States.....initial Italian releases are centred around the campaigns in Lombardy, but I am in discussion with a fellow gamer about expanding into the Sieges of Rome and Venice

I'd be interested to hear about your progress on this. I've got some of the Gringo40s Garibaldini and Neopolitans and, for the Carnevale game, some Venetian buildings. I was wondering if I could combine the two to get more use out of both (even if I would have to create a few fictional skirmishes).

Hi Mkrgan,
My compatriots in crime will be commissioning some Papal forces that would be ideal with the buildings for Siege of Venice, at a stretch some of your buildings could be used for the siege of Rome. Esrly civilian volunteers will be on the cards at a point in the near future.
The figures are smaller than Gringos I will do a photo comparison when I have a few of the Gringos, however their guns and crews could be used
