Nice work!

Thanks, man.

It's been hard to find time for my hobby this autumn. I've been working on and off on a trio of GZG Spider drones, twenty minutes here and there, but even with them finished I haven't had the inspiration to write any story about them.

This guy, on the other hand, painted itself more or less in the space of an evening, with the story coming to me while I painted.

Nice painting looks way better than my version of the same model! I know what you mean about finding the time, for me at the moment it's finding the motivation, I have a small platoon worth of minis waiting for me on the paint station at the moment, the problem with 15mm being as cheap as it is!

Thanks, friend! I'm very happy with the model myself!

It's painted with Vallejo colours, skin is Beasty Brown, everything else Rotting Flesh and Sick Green. The green parts are washed with a thin green wash, then the whole model is washed with Army Painter Strong Tone.
The model is then highlighted with their original colours and the green is highlighted with Rotting Flesh + Arctic White and Sick Green + Rotting Flesh and a finished spot highlight with more white.
The skin is highlighted with Cobra Leather/Leather Brown and a final spot highlight with Beasty Brown + Arctic White. To tie the skin together, a light wash of Army Painter Soft Tone is applied.

GZG UNSC/L drybrushed white by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

I would like some input on how to proceed with my GZG UNSC/L squad.

I wanted to make a squad in light grey uniforms, with white boots/armour/helmets and purple visors.
I was also low on hobby time, so I tried to speedpaint by drybrushing them, but I didn't like the result.

Now I'm not sure what to do with them. Redo them according to my initial vision or do something else. I'm thinking about giving them purple uniforms with white armour/boots/helmets, but then I'll need a new colour for the visor. Or perhaps something entirely different scheme? I'm not sure where to go.

I envision this as either an elite mercenary group or some kind of galactic special operations guys/gals.

Also: I've got one converted mini, to the right of the commander. I've added a drum magazine (giga battery?) by slicing of 1/4 of a styrene disc and glueing it on top of the magazine.
I need to make this SAW gunner different from the other mini with the same pose. Any ideas how to achieve that? Different colour markings? Different weapon colour?

Just my 2 cents, sometimes different shoulder pad colors can be an easy way to distinguish mini types.  Sort of Sandtrooper in Star wars with the orange shoulders instead of the black shoulders.

Thanks, that's a good idea. I've been toying with the idea to paint the uniform purple and armour/helmet/gloves white, with a orange visor.
Perhaps orange shoulder armour on the specialist?

Maybe as you suggested with the orange shoulder armour for the specialist and a light green for the visors?

It depends on what you want.

I painted some Anvil Martian Orbital Fusileers based on my Ancient Laserburn Imperials (based n a certain film from a Long Time Ago) using the method from Tabletop Gaming for a game set Far, Far Away.
http://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2017/05/anvil-industries-martian-orbital.html

They were sprayed white. The gun and visor were then blocked in. Washed with Citadel Nuln Ooil. Drybrushed white and details painted in.

Thanks for the input, all of you!

I'm still working on the other colonists from the pack I got the doctor from, but need to think about what to do next.

Also: painting a couple of minis makes me feel like it's okay to order more minis, even if my painting hasn't made a noticable dent in my lead mountain...

Also:

UVS, that mini was awesome, what a paintjob! I think that some techniques don't translate very well from 28 to 15 (or vice versa), but I might be willing to try this!

Okay, so I asked for advice in the 15mm sci-fi Facebook group and someone had actually tried the purple + white scheme. Let's just say that I won't be doing that:

http://minimetalmayhem.blogspot.com/2012/03/unsc-colour-scheme-test.html

Looks like I'll go back to my original idea, grey uniform and white details, purple visor.

Erm yeah good plan! No idea who suggested that green would be a good colour for the visors!  ::)

Nice stuff you have here    :D

In terms of advice for the UNSC the following is what I did with mine, though I'm increasingly looking to have them being orange with a white shoulder pads and knees as opposed to the other way around.

Those look really nice! I think that your idea to switch colours might look even better, though!
