Volabo 245 Hover Truck by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

Even if wheeled drive still is the most common propulsion system on non-military vehicles, one can find a wealth of alternatives on the standard colony world. Each propulsion system has its own strengths and weaknesses: threads can traverse rough ground, but it won't be fast, anti-grav plates have great speed and mobility, but they are expensive (and repairs require rare materials). Hovercraft are popular with many colonists, with their (almost) all-terrain capabilities, high speed and cargo capacity often cited as main strengths.

The Volabo 245 Hover Truck is an ancient Terran design, originally construed in the aftermath of the Resource War, before humanity's intergalactic expansion. Volabo (latin:
I hover), a subsidiary of an automobile company famous for its safe vehicles, designed the 245 Hover Truck to be able to carry supplies across war-torn lands, while needing minimal maintenance and being easy to repair. The earlier models used an enclosed, NBC-proof cabin, while the most common variant used today is the stripped-down basic model. It's heavily spread across the galaxy, easily found on almost every colony world.

That is very utilitarian. Great civilian vehicle piece! The headlights look positively terrific. I have yet to figure out how to make white headlights look like... well, headlights? I can do yellow, but the white eludes me.

A great set of skirts, perhaps?  ;)

Thanks, Jim!

Thanks, Andrew! I'm happy with it myself, it's my first painted vehicle. The headlights are just painted with grey gem effect.

Nice ride, I would definitely use those on a colony planet!

Thank you, friend!

Postal Truck by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

The Postman cometh by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

New deliveries by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

Most days, deliveries are easy. The postman gets into his hover truck, loads up the post and parcels and goes his rounds.

Some days, though, the postman might be carrying something a little bit more valuable, or perhaps there have been sightings of miscreants in the wilderness. That's when the armed support arrives. They either bring an extra vehicle or ride along with the hover truck, piling up in the back. But if they sense that something's awry, the postal workers will disembark and create a defensive perimeter around the vehicle. Most times, it will be unnecessary, but the postal workers are rather safe than sorry...

Great pictures. Is the driver glued in or something you can swap around?

Neither cargo nor driver have been glued in.

I like flexibility  :D
