Crossover Miniatures Aeronef - Built and Painted!
« on: April 16, 2017, 10:43:23 PM »
So I got an amalgamation Aeronef from Crossover - after a bit of back and forth where I asked if I could get the flying bridge from the one with the 'balloons' without said balloons, I ended up with this configuration.  The first photos are from before I actually did a touch of finish work...

And then I did a few end touches, like adding chain.

First off, I really found this kit easy to assemble.  It is pretty straightforward, and it lends itself to the feel that Space 1889 gave all of us for 'how the aeronef should look'.

I really only have 1 complaint, and that is probably related more to my paint style than the kit. Laser cut MDF details just aren't deep enough for how I paint.  I am very much considering going over the doors with either scratchbuilt or something from Reviresco, just to put that detail back in.  I find the same issue with the houses from Sarissa I use for WW2, or any number of MDF kits.  My block color and drybrush just doesn't pull those details out.

If you want a fairly simple to build, good looking 'nef, go give Crossover some of your money.

Looks Great!  Very well done, I love the yellow stairs, very atmospheric.

It's great to see on in the paint.  Thanks for the photos!

oooh, very nice!

I just got some of their latest kits, but have to clear some storage space in the basement before we can begin construction!

I do the yellow stairs for two reasons - they add a spot of color to an otherwise monochromatic scheme (also why I put red smokestacks in) and also, I found in an old book on the Merchant fleets of the late 1800s and early 1900s that they would sometimes paint stairs, handrails, and main entry doors in a bright easy to see color to make them easier to find in storms and night conditions, and this struck me as very intelligent.

Fergal, if you want pictures without all the crap in the background, let me know, and I'll see if I can get some on a neutral background for you to put on your website.

Next, I think I need to try and get one of your Zeppelins...

I'd love some pics in front of a neutral background :)  Thank you for the offer, I'll splash all over FB too!

I can commiserate with you based on these pics, my wifes a 'fiber artist' as well.

How do you know that isn't my stash of material?

 :D

We tend to fight for space in here, but she has a studio and I use the garage for storage.

Yeah, my brother-in-law actually did a heck of a lot of his own attire, though my sister had the far larger storage. I fear it[large storage] runs in the family.

Sinew, smashing as always!

Nice job :) Cool to see one of these in the wild.

Do I spy some Hinterland ladies?

Yes, you do.  My Norwegian sailors are a mix of Hinterland and Redoubt figures.
