Fantasy gangsters or gangstas?
« on: April 18, 2017, 09:52:14 PM »
Given that fantasy/historical figures can be found for a number of different time periods I was thinking
of fantasy gangsters from the 1920's-1930s or more modern gangsta style figures. You know, elves, dwarves,
orcs ect. Wondering if anyone knows of any such figures out there like that?

There are nonhuman gangers in the various Shadowrun ranges, especially elves and orcs.  They tend to be a bit cyberpunkish but some of them could work for modern-fantasy thugs.

No ideas on the Prohibition-era fantasy figs.  Be great for Cook's Garrett P.I. setting though, or for Asprin's Myth books.

Seems like I found a hole in the hobby.
Someone should jump in and start making fantasy gangsters!

I think that Ral Partha does or did Shadowrun minis.

Wolsung has gangster halflings. It's a steam punk game but this faction are vaguely 20th c. with steam gubbins stuck on them. And goggles.

It's a very broad gaming franchise that started with the FASA roleplaying game way back in the 80s.  Wiki page is fairly accurate.

Iron Wind Metals still produces most/all of the Ral Partha minis for the game, and there was an earlier (and often better) range from Grenadier that may still have a few models in production in Italy through Mirliton.

Seems to me there was a Shadowrun fig, maybe a troll?, that had what looked like a pinstrip suit. Looked very 30's to me. I'll see if I can find.

Doug

Edit: I my have been thinking of the drawing that was the inspiration, but there's this:

Haven't looked: does RPE have some Shadowrun figs?

Edit, part deux: Ah, Wisconsin Lutheran... Don't suppose RPE is an issue; I'm just so used to trying to think of our friends across the briny. Have you seen Cast a Deadly Spell? More forties-ish, but magic-in-pulp vibes galore, with plenty of creatures.

Beast,

I will take a look at your suggestion. I haven't heard of that game or line of figures.

Given how many people have checked this post, if I had the money and skill I think I would do a
line of fantasy gangsters. Orcs, Elves, Dwarves ect. as various gangs fighting over city turf. Maybe Hobbits as
the police? Keep it fun with just a touch of magic. My guess it would sell well to a small market of gamers.
Love the troll.

Whoops, I meant Cast a Deadly Spell, the HBO movie. Really, I was thinking those words as I was typing.  ::)

Just meant it had Clancy Brown as a crooked night club owner and Fred Ward as a Marlowe-esque detective, and had the right vibes to get into gangsters and gargoyles frame of mind.
