Musée de la guerre de 1870 et de l'annexion - Gravelotte (France)
« on: September 09, 2016, 11:08:03 PM »
Today I will show you pictures of the museum of the Franco-Prussian war in Gravelotte, a small village near the french city of Metz, and one of the most famous battlefields of the FPW.
The text is in german, but with an introduction and explanation in english AND in french.
Thanks to my daughter.
Have fun with the report and the pictures.

The Prussian uniforms were a lighter blue-gray than I would have thought. Is some of that fading over the years or are the dark-blue images you find on the 'net incorrect?

Hi,

the uniforms are deeper blue than those of the french. But they aren't nearly black as often depicted. It's similiar to the US ACW uniform.

Thanks much for the reply. I'll have to live with my overly dark prussians as it's too much to repaint now.

Interesting photo's. I think I have given up on ever finding the correct shade of colour for the uniforms! In artwork, the Prussian's tunic looks almost black but when you view the real item they vary from Dark to pale blue.

This looks great. We are planning a trip to take in Verdun and the Maginot Line next year, so this is one the list as well.
