First Attempts at 15mm NEW PICS 14/10
« on: June 20, 2013, 11:30:48 PM »
I'VE decided to start growing 15mm armies with which to play Bombshell Games' 'Mayhem' rules, which I cannot recommend highly enough. Like HOTT or Impetus units are represented by a single base on which can be placed as many miniatures as the player desires. My initial purchases have been somewhat random, comprising some of mark Copplestone's excellent Dwarves and some creatures from new company Warfairy. With Khurasan's recent announcement that they have massively expanded their evil fantasy range I think my next order will certainly be to them! On with the models (and, as usual, more twaddle on das blog):

You paint very well, especially considering it is 15mm.  Great detail, a pleasure to look upon.

These are great, they all look lovely.
My favourite has to be the Dwarf Command stand, though.
Such great character portrayed in such tiny figures.
 :-* :-*

Where is that winged beastie from?
I may have a use for a few of those in 28mm.

those dwarfs are not only nicely painted, but seems to be nicely sculpted too  :-*

Scale wise, how does them compare with demonworld range ?

thanks

I'VE decided to start growing 15mm armies

I just got an image of a guy standing over a sunlit patch of bare, moist earth; beaming with pride as little tin heads start sprouting above the surface.

Dwarfs are :-*  Very nice painting, in colour choice as well as application.

Beautiful work, esp the dwarves! The Copplestone stuff is what convinced me to do 15mm too!

Thanks for the comments. I can't recommend 15mm enough. For mass battles it certainly makes a hell of a lot more sense than 28mm!

Available from Warfairy, my good man.

The Copplestone stuff scales in very well with the Demonworld stuff. Ral Partha sent me a sample Demonworld miniature with an order I placed last year (an 'Ice Witch', I believe) and it is a head taller than the Dwarves above.

Looks great, just posted a review of the Warfairy miniatures: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=55235.new#new

Excellent paintjob on that Jabberwocor and Rooted Treefolk!  :-* Mine are on the painting table (single based though) as I speak, great sculpts!

I totally agree with Mason! They all look great, but the dwarf general with command is something special. Well played sir... well played indeed!

I can't wait to see you cause some MAYHEM with these guys! ;)

The Little Lads painted up SPLENDIDLY! The quality of brushwork & basing belie their size. GREAT WORK!

Most excellent, kudos! Why not HotT or Impetvs though? What's the draw to the new rule set?

You're a natural at 15mm. Like everyone else, I like the way you've done the dwarves. 15mm is great as you need less space, the figures are less expensive and the terrain is soooo much cheaper.

Thanks for posting these. They look amazing. I've been considering making a Copplestone 10mm purchase for a while now..

Do you have any advice for painting at this scale compared to 28mm? Is it quicker because of the small area or does the tiny scale mean it takes longer..

Cheers,

Michael

Thanks for all your nice words!

Most excellent, kudos! Why not HotT or Impetvs though? What's the draw to the new rule set?

I have played both HOTT and Imptvs and whilst I like them both it was the release of 'Mayhem' earlier this year that spurred me to begin collecting 15mm fantasy armies. It's a great and intuitive system with all sorts of little tactical nuances that one really has to play to appreciate. It also uses a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20, which immediately makes it cool.

Do you have any advice for painting at this scale compared to 28mm? Is it quicker because of the small area or does the tiny scale mean it takes longer..

I guess if you really went to town you could spend as much painting time on 15mm models as 28mm. However, I found them much quicker to paint using generally a base-coat, a wash and a single highlight for each colour, but sometimes forgoing the wash if the base-coat was dark enough. I imagine that 10mm would be very similar, but you could perhaps get away with being even more minimal. Hope that is of some help.

You're a natural at 15mm. Like everyone else, I like the way you've done the dwarves. 15mm is great as you need less space, the figures are less expensive and the terrain is soooo much cheaper.

Ta! Cost and space were definitely considerations behind this new venture. I just put in an order for 38 Orcs from Khurasan which cost £23, including postage, from the States. That's the core of an Orcish army right there. Try doing that in 28mm.
