Welcome, friends and supplicants, to the Lovecraftian Painting Circle (LPC)!
In the tradition of this esteemed site, another painting club has awoken to tantalize and titillate. The Professor has decreed it and who am I to defy him? The Lovecraftian Painting Circle starts today! The stars have come right and the words have been said; all that is needed is for some keen cultists to put brush to model and shock the world with frightful effigies and colours from space! But there shall be only 100 and then the stars revolve and the chance will be gone! Don't displease your gods: ancient, monstrous and foul...get painting!
Being in specific, an attempted categorization of the various creatures associated with the Mythos of Howard Philips Lovecraft and other authors in his circle. Participants will provide photographic evidence of a creature, be it squamous, plastic or rubbery and are encouraged to use supporting text for clarification.
Every member of this forum is invited to post photos of his/her painted miniatures here. As soon as we reach that one hundredth figure, the club accepts no new members. The dimensional gateway to freshly painted mythos monsters will close.
Some simple rules for this:
• As mentioned above, it’s about painting miniatures. Miniature monsters, fiends, squamous alien beings...whatever. But the theme is all about the creatures. If you are not familiar with the scope, browse through a few board pages or have a read of a story from Lovecraft, Blackwood, Machen, Howard and a countless number more (The mythos is ever growing... ;D) and I think you'll get the idea. If that doesn't help, ask.
• Only one miniature base each day. We will accept multiple miniatures on each base. This is to allow for entries like multiple groping tentacles, a ghoul feasting on his prey...a frightened cultist for scale. But please, no unit displays and no single heroes or investigators. Eldritch beasts, that's the way.
• Once entered, you don’t have to post every day. It’s perfectly sufficient to post just one single miniature at all in order to take part and to become a member of the Lovecraftian Painting Circle. Feel free to show the uninitiated how clever you are by backing up you model and painting choices with excerpts from mythos stories. 8)
• This is not about showing your collection of already painted stuff, so please do post only newly painted miniatures. We’re not in a hurry, so take your time.
• All scales are, as always, a go.
That's it! Get painting!

LPC 1: Deep One
They were mostly shiny and slippery, but the ridges of their backs were scaly. Their forms vaguely suggested the anthropoid, while their heads were the heads of fish, with prodigious bulging eyes that never closed...They were blasphemous fish-frogs of the nameless design - living and horrible.

Nice painting :-* A fine start 8)

That was fast...you must be up late painting eldritch beasties?
-
That was fast...you must be up late painting eldritch beasties?
Wandering the deeply shaded vales of the Southern Tablelands ,picking up oddly shaped flints, that sort of thing. Just noticed three incised markings about three feet off the ground, very odd, children probably... ;)
Edit: just put together my creature...
-
That is one of my current favorite Deep Ones. I have several I plan on using for Strange Aeons. This is painted very nicely.
-
Thanks. Yeah, this is a great figure...Reaper Miniatures. Not sure about the name of the pack...but you get two. Great fun to paint and (even though I sell Fishmen for a living... :o ???) also one of my favorite sculpts. When you read the text it really is a bang-on sculpt.
On a personal note: Lovecraftian creatures was what got me into painting and converting those many, many years ago. - Sniffle - There are a great number of talented sculptors out there in mini-land who, over the years, have helped to flesh out this confusing and frightening genre. Solidifying the hinted at half descriptions from those musty old stories into hideous form. And then the painters, upon finding a model that somehow calls to them...paint me...paint me...it is a beautiful, cosmically aligned part of the mythos. Ever expanding...through space...through time...Ia! Ia! Cthulhu Fhtagn!!!
I'll be re-visiting some of my old favorites and painting some new stuff from my work bench. You guys better get going I've got a lot of stuff!!! lol

LPC 2: Dimensional Shambler
By strange coincidence, just finished up this Dimensional Shambler tonight. It had been sitting around half painted for years, but I finally found myself inspired to finish it off, before I even found out Mike was hosting this little club. Handy timing for me! There's really very little source material for these beasties in the mythos. Lovecraft's only reference:
Shuffling toward him in the darkness was the gigantic, blasphemous form of a black thing not wholly ape and not wholly insect. Its hide hung loosely upon its frame, and its rugose, dead-eyed rudiment of a head swayed drunkenly from side to side. Its fore paws were extended, with talons spread wide, and its whole body was taut with murderous malignity despite its utter lack of facial expression. After the screams and the final coming of darkness it leaped, and in a moment had Jones pinned to the floor. There was no struggle, for the watcher had fainted.
- The Horror in the Museum, by H.P. Lovecraft & Hazel Heald
I thought I was taking some liberties with the inner 'glow', but it turns out that's an exact match for Clark Ashton Smith's description in "The Hunters from Beyond". Coincidence?

Lovely start guys. :D
-
Lovely start guys. :D
Sure is!
:-*
I am sure that I have something that I could paint up for this.....
-
Alright, alright, I'll dig out my paints! lol They've been firmly stashed away since the latest house move. Let's see if I can find some minis for Linear Predictive Coding...
-
You evil things you, there's no way I can resist having a crack as this, even if I have to sculpt my own model to do it!
What a stunning start though, it's going to be tough to maintain that level.
-
Lovely, lovely, chaps! Had exactly this Dimensional Shambler in mind for this show and picked him up from the pile this morning when shortly afterwards he appeared here. Strange and mysterious things are going on here, me thinks ... Just choose something else to paint, wondering if it will endure till finish ... ;D
-
This is great! I was just saying to Paul (Mason) that I'd put a figure aside for this club.
-
You mean I have to paint something from the lead horde??? What is this forum coming to!
lol
-
This is great! I was just saying to Paul (Mason) that I'd put a figure aside for this club.
You did, indeed!
And I am really looking forward to seeing your take on it.
:D
I will not be putting the same one in as I painted (and posted) it a couple of weeks ago.

Well, well, at it again... lol
Nice entries so far! 8)
Just spent ½ hour searching for my 2 old packs of RAFM Deep Ones, found both, plus 2 primed ghouls, a set of 'summoned tentacles', and a 'gross anatomy' (conglomerate).
I'll be busy filing and assembling the rest of the evening... ;D

I hope I can do it justice. I have a plan but it could look very odd! I glued it down and undercoated it this morning.

LPC 3: Moon Beast
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/16/134_02_02_14_8_29_11.jpg)
“great greyish-white slippery things which could expand and contract at will, and whose principal shape — though it often changed — was that of a sort of toad without any eyes, but with a curious vibrating mass of short pink tentacles on the end of its blunt, vague snout”
-
And here we go again... :D
Nice entries so far gents.
Here is my meager entry... ;)
LPC 4: Haunted Mansion

Ordered some miniatures to paint. Hope I get them done before number 100, things are moving fast here!

Looking good so far, chaps!

LPC 8: Servitor of the Outer Gods
"He thought of the ancient legends of Ultimate Chaos, at whose centre sprawls the blind idiot god Azathoth, Lord of All Things, encircled by his flopping horde of mindless and amorphous dancers, and lulled by the thin monotonous piping of a daemoniac flute held in nameless paws."
H.P. Lovecraft, The Haunter Of the Dark

From the famous range of Cthulhu miniatures by Metal Magic, Dunwich Detectives, elaborately sculpted by Josef Ochmann.

Always love your colours Michael, beautiful :-*
-
Nice entries so far. The deep ones and hound were superb.
I don't have any cuthulu as such, but could a skeleton, mummy, skunk or snake head cultist do? I'm not well versed in cuthulu even after an afternoon of Google-fu and thread reading.
Cheers
Matt
-
Really pleased to see this one; great entries too.
Now to go and rummage through the lead pile for something suitable ....

From the rules: "the theme is all about the creatures." So, no cultist at all, even with a snake head, if I understand it correctly.

LPC 9: Tsathoggua
He was very squat and pot-bellied, his head was more like a monstrous toad than a deity, and his whole body was covered with an imitation of short fur, giving somehow a vague sensation of both the bat and the sloth. His sleepy lids were half-lowered over his globular eyes; and the tip of a queer tongue issued from his fat mouth.[2]

This model has been sitting in my window sill since 2007! (before which it sat on the window sill in my earlier house... since 2004!).
I always new I would get it painted. Thank you LPC, you really came through for me!
And now I stayed up for I don't know how much too long to finish this crap! lol

But that was so worth staying up for, CV.
Bloody brilliant!

Would it not be cool to enter Lead Adventure's Philip Von Kraft? I've been waiting since August for some deep ones to arrive from Black Cat Bases ( :'( I'm sure you've heard about the problems we've been having with them). And I picked up the Lead Adventure miniature today at Vapnartak. He does have a tiny Cthulhu sitting on his shoulders. :D
-
Some great stuff!!! I leave my computer for a day and we are already up to #9. Loving these entries...each one a beautifully horrible thing! :-* I knocked off a couple figs today as well...was planning to enter them if no one else had put anything in yet. Looks like that isn't going to be a problem. Possibly you will see them next week if things slow down. I'll get everyone into the gallery (so you can get yer badges) on Tuesday. No sooner as I'm being a Dad for a few days. ;)
Once again, brilliant start everyone!

LPC 10 Fire Daemon
O'er the midnight moorlands crying,
Thro' the cypress forests sighing,
In the night-wind madly flying,
Hellish forms with streaming hair;
In the barren branches creaking,
By the stagnant swamp-pools speaking,
Past the shore-cliffs ever shrieking,
Damn'd demons of despair.
From the Reaper Bones line. This is the red hued figure, no primer, several coats of various reds, yellows and oranges with some washes. I think it turned out well for me playing around with it. Been sitting on my painting desk to finish for a long time now.
-
Wow, the quality of entries is extremely high!

Also superb Michael :-*
And all of them really - even the Crazy Viking! ;)
This club is really producing some wonderful examples. Well done all.
-
Some fantastic entries so far. Really high standard. :)
-
Really great entries! :o
I may have to settle for the primed ghouls to take a seat in this hallowed circle... Those deep ones take quite some time to prep :?

LPC 11 - Hound of Tindalos
“A Hound of Tindalos is a horrendous quadruped which manifests itself through the corner angles of rooms in earthly structures, sending itself through time and space to attack the being on which it wishes to feed. A typical Hound has a long, sinuous tongue and drips a putrid substance like blue pus.”

An old Grenadier "Death Dog", now to finish the rest

Thank god it was sunday ... varnish is still drying:
Love that glistening slime look!
-
Another Reaper Bones that has been sitting about....
I have haunted the tombs of the ages,
I have flown on the pinions of fear,
Where the smoke-belching Erebus rages;
Where the jokulls loom snow-clad and drear:
And in realms where the sun of the desert consumes what it never can cheer.

LPC 13 Nightguant
“Shocking and uncouth black beings with smooth, oily, whale-like surfaces, unpleasant horns that curved inward toward each other, bat-wings whose beating made no sound, ugly prehensile paws, and barbed tails that lashed needlessly and disquietingly. And worst of all, they never spoke or laughed, and never smiled because they had no faces at all to smile with, but only a suggestive blankness where a face ought to be. All they ever did was clutch and fly and tickle; that was the way of night-gaunts.”
—H. P. Lovecraft, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

Nice work Darth! And as an acolyte of Nodens I approve :)

I like those Bones creatures. I should go check! :)

Just 3 days, 13 entries on 4 pages. I better get some paint on something. Good thing I have such a big lead mountain to dig into.

I'm digging... and prepping... expecting to prime some minis this (cold and windy?) evening... ;D
-
I almost completed mine last night. I showed the miniature to my wife who said "that's disgusting". I'm happy with that.
-
Mine's been done a couple of days, now stuck for time to photograph it... :(
Incidentally, why did the forum disappear for hours (at least in my part of the world) shortly after this particular painting circle was started? Ominous, if you ask me.... :o

I live in Florida, things are wet or hot most of the time. Invest in an airbrush and airbrush primer...worth the investment.

LPC 14: The Worm That Gnaws
For it is of old rumour that the soul of the devil-bought hastes not from his charnel clay, but fats and instructs the very worm that gnaws; till out of corruption horrid life springs, and the dull scavengers of earth wax crafty to vex it and swell monstrous to plague it. Great holes secretly are digged where earth's pores ought to suffice...
The Necronomicon, by Abdul Alhazred
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/16/1338_04_02_14_4_30_16_1.jpg)
This guy is an old RAFM figure, sculpted by Mr. Murch but not in their Call Of Cthulhu line...Crypt Worm or Tomb Worm or something like that. A real gem if you can find it. Incidentally, I've had this guy for several years on my desk, partially finished...or partially started. The tongue is a plastic GW bit from the Dark Eldar (?) I think...in the end I'm glad to have him finished and plan on using him to eat some pesky Agents A.S.A.P.

LPC 15:GUG Sentry
It was a paw, fully two feet and a half across, and equipped with formidable talons. After it came another paw, and after that a great black-furred arm to which both of the paws were attached by short forearms. Then two pink eyes shone, and the head of the awakened gug sentry, large as a barrel, wabbled into view. The eyes jutted two inches from each side, shaded by bony protuberances overgrown with coarse hairs. But the head was chiefly terrible because of the mouth. That mouth had great yellow fangs and ran from the top to the bottom of the head, opening vertically instead of horizontally.

LPC 16: Scrawny One / Hooded One. Blind Beggar Miniatures
The first word that came to him was scrawny. Which is a peculiar word to apply to something not of our flesh, nor shaped in any way conceivable to us; but there was something in what passed for its eyes that told of endless deprivation, insufficiency, hunger.
The Scrawny One by Anthony Boucher, Weird Tales, May 1949
-
LPC 17: Here's my attempt a conglomerate, a la Herbert West;
"Still more shocking were the products of some of the experiments - grisly masses of flesh that had been dead, but that West had waked into a blind, brainless, nauseous animation."
-
This is so cool! Some superb painting on display. Maybe I'll finally finish my Brush Off 2010 entry and post it here haha!!
-
Here's my attempt a conglomerate, a la Herbert West
Hey wait, I just dug out that mini last night and considered building it for the circle as an "unusual choice". :o Oh well, fortunately I found a dozen others too. lol
-
Could I
pusuade persuade participants make a note of the origin of their entry(ies)?
I won't get more than 2 minis max ready on time, should this continue at the same pace... 18(?) entries by half a week. Moonstruck, I tell ya'! ;D

Great paint jobs and really interesting minis - haven't seen many of them before.

21 Y'golonac
Beyond a gulf in the subterranean night a passage leads to a wall of massive bricks, and beyond the wall rises Y'golonac to be served by the tattered eyeless figures of the dark. Long has he slept beyond the wall, and those which crawl over the bricks scuttle across his body never knowing it to be Y'golonac; but when his name is spoken or read he comes forth to be worshipped or to feed and take on the shape and soul of those he feeds upon. For those who read of evil and search for its form within their minds call forth evil, and so may Y'golonac return to walk among men . . .

This wrinkly little chap represents one of 'The Children of Old Leech' from Laird Barron's story 'The Broadsword' (in TS Joshi's collection 'Black Wings Of Cthulhu').
"Who are you people?." Gloria mimicked. "The Children of Old Leech, your betters."
(The mini is from CP Models 'Night Horrors' range)

Great paint work. Really like the transition of colors. I've always liked this figure.

Feel free to show the uninitiated how clever you are by backing up you model and painting choices with excerpts from mythos stories.

Ballardian, I think you've put your pic in your signature instead of embedding it in the post?

Yes please, that would be greatly appreciated!
:)

Sorry Argonor, I'm not quite sure what you mean, is there some problem with the picture, it seems to be displaying ok?
-
It would appear that long-time LAFer Argonor is somehow not familiar with the attachment feature, and has mistaken it for adding a picture to one's signature. I guess he was concerned for you, thinking that you would be dragging that picture around with you like an albatross everywhere you posted. :)
-
Yet more great entries. (I need to paint faster... ;D)

Looking at Ballardian's brilliant entry makes me think about redoing mine as it's more like what I think I had in mind! Sorry for ruining your miniature Paul! lol

Yes, that was what I thought - because the pic did not show in reply-mode, and I got a little confused when trying to figure out what number to put on my entry.
I've never used attachments - is it a method to upload stuff directly to posts?

More wonderful entries.

You will just have to paint the next one differently, wont you?
...and the next one is finished, by the way, there should be at least three versions by the time they get sent away.

You mean they won't be ready for the end of the painting club! lol
That's excellent news that there are more on the way!

I've never used attachments - is it a method to upload stuff directly to posts?
That is correct, one clicks on the little "Additional Options" button to the bottom left of the field you type in when making a post. I've never used it either, as I like to have my pics in the body of the post next to the appropriate accompanying smart-bothered captions. But it is a nice little feature nonetheless. :)

Avolakia?
That's his member name. There are posts of his other figures if you search for his posts. Quite a few nice models.

EDIT:
syrinx0 was so kind to ppoint to to this, so here it goes:
"These figures were seldom completely human, but often approached humanity in varying degree. Most of the bodies, while roughly bipedal, had a forward slumping, and a vaguely canine cast. The texture of the majority was a kind of unpleasant rubberiness. Ugh! I can see them now! Their occupations—well, don’t ask me to be too precise. They were usually feeding—I won’t say on what. They were sometimes shewn in groups in cemeteries or underground passages, and often appeared to be in battle over their prey—or rather, their treasure-trove. And what damnable expressiveness Pickman sometimes gave the sightless faces of this charnel booty! "

Another Deep One to add to the school/pod (it's a Carnevale Rashaar mini);

But I can't believe you of all people didn't include a quote! :'(
I can't. I don't own any Mythos books (almost none have been published in DK). Call of Cthulhu and The Case of Charles Dexter Ward were published in one tome in a translated version many years ago, and I borrowed it from the library, and I've read some Stephen King short stories heavily relying on the Mythos, but apart from that... I actually have nothing to quote :?
I could of course read some in English, but I find that my mind gets too occupied finding the correct meaning of the wording when reading fiction in a foreign language, so I cannot imagine the things I'm reading about.

Fair enough!

Thanks Mike. I forgot to add the white belly at first. :D It was actually Ballardian's quote that reminded me. Lol.
I like the contrasting shading on this one.
Thanks Fram. I used primarily yellows and oranges on the main body (although it is a bit hard to tell that in these photos), so I tried to make the shadowing have a purple tone to contrast better.
Loving all the entries so far. I'm a little surprised at the slower pace of this one. Post Apoc went quickly...

LPC 29: Wendigo
The Canadian came closer in the darkness. He shook his head. "I guess not, " he said, though without overwhelming conviction. "It must 've been jest that song of mine that did it. It's the song they sing in lumber-camps and god-forsaken places like that, when they're skeered the Wendigo's somewheres around, doin' a bit of swift travellin' -----"
"And what's the Wendigo, pray?" Simpson asked quickly, irritated because again he could not prevent that sudden shiver of the nerves. He knew that he was close upon the man's terror and the cause of it. Yet a rushing passionate curiosity overcame his better judgement, and his fear.
Defago turned swiftly and looked at him as though he were about to shriek. His eyes shone, his mouth was wide open. Yet all he said, or whispered rather, for his voice sank very low, was:
"It's nuthin' - nuthin' but what those lousy fellers believe when they've been hittin' the bottle too long - a sort of great animal that lives up yonder," he jerked his head northwards, "quick as lightning in its tracks, an' bigger'n anything else in the Bush, an' ain't supposed to be very good to look at - that's all!"

LPC 30: Summoned Horror
This was included by mistake in a RAFM pack I bought years ago - supposed to be a part of 'The Summoning of Llioigor' set, but I think it was packed as a Servitor. I find myself strangely stumped to think of a story where a horrifying mass of tentacles is summoned, ergo no quote!

The colors on the summoned horror work very well. Nicely done. I just picked up something to paint up for this, so hopefully I'll be able to finish before all the spots are filled.

"Out of the unimaginable blackness beyond the gangrenous glare of that cold flame, out of the tartarean leagues through which that oily river rolled uncanny, unheard, and unsuspected, there flopped rhythmically a horde of tame, trained, hybrid winged things that no sound eye could ever wholly grasp, or sound brain ever wholly remember. They were not altogether crows, nor moles, nor buzzards, nor ants, nor vampire bats, nor decomposed human beings; but something I cannot and must not recall. They flopped limply along, half with their webbed feet and half with their membranous wings; and as they reached the throng of celebrants the cowled figures seized and mounted them, and rode off one by one along the reaches of that unlighted river, into pits and galleries of panic where poison springs feed frightful and undiscoverable cataracts."

The Great Race ... waxed well-nigh omniscient, and turned to the task of setting up exchanges with the minds of other planets, and of exploring their pasts and futures. It sought likewise to fathom the past years and origin of that black, aeon-dead orb in far space whence its own mental heritage had come – for the mind of the Great Race was older than its bodily form. . . The beings of a dying elder world, wise with the ultimate secrets, had looked ahead for a new world and species wherein they might have long life; and had sent their minds en masse into that future race best adapted to house them – the cone-shaped beings that peopled our earth a billion years ago.

The claws are done to mimic the claws of crustaceans/lobsters. An orange fading to maroon undercoat with an increased concentration of thinned down black dots in the darker areas...inner edges highlighted with a thin line of white.
PS The iridescent effect is very hard to take pics of. Trying for some better ones.

Thanks guys!
I have added lots of tentacles to make the model look more seamless and not as "modular. On the original model you could really distinguish the different parts of the model. The tentacles obscures that (in my opinion). Just need to replace that awful head, it's a really bad peice of sculpting.

LPC 43 - Deep One
(http://kleinerzorn.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/deep-one.jpg)
Heres a Deep one i finished yesterday
i already posted it in my own toppic but now i realized i can post the miniatures i finish in the future here insteads....so why not start now
the base mini is a D&D Half lizardman half Ilithid , but it makes a marvelous deep one
i love the fact that the original miniature has a nose ! wich displays that it once was a human ( instead of haviong a nose as a lizard...wich looks/seems a tad silly to me )
Also i allways imagined Deep ones as having a human...ish skintone instead of being green.... si i changed its skin to some fleshy blueish/pinkish colour :)
and dont worry about me cluttering the forum with pictures.... i will keep pictures of groups or WIP pictures to my original toppic :)
I hope i have done everything according to the rules....and im interested what you think of my deep one :)
-
Great paint job on this fishy guy! I've got this model and thought it quite uninspiring...you have proved me wrong! 8)

and im interested what you think of my deep one
I think it is really well done. I love the fleshy sort of look, makes it more scary!

LPC 44 - Deep One Priest
(http://kleinerzorn.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/deep-one-priest.jpg)
first of all thanks :)
as for the new mini i just finished a few minutes ago
colors are the same color scheme as the alst time
its a D&D Kuo Toa Whip.....so basically it was a Deep one priest to begin with
the fleshy colors work well too....allthough the small detail on the original mini made painting this a bit less fun....but then again it did cost me about two € on ebay...so all in all it turned out fine
hope you like it

Ghoul King
“It was a colossal and nameless blasphemy with glaring red eyes, and it held in bony claws a thing that had been a man, gnawing at the head as a child nibbles at a stick of candy. Its position was a kind of crouch, and as one looked one felt that at any moment it might drop its present prey and seek a juicier morsel. But damn it all, it wasn’t even the fiendish subject that made it such an immortal fountain-head of all panic—not that, nor the dog face with its pointed ears, bloodshot eyes, flat nose, and drooling lips. It wasn’t the scaly claws nor the mould-caked body nor the half-hooved feet—none of these, though any one of them might well have driven an excitable man to madness.” (“Pickman’s Model”)

To be true, the mini was driving me nuts; I kept finding details I had forgotten, and I skipped painting some (very small) maggot-like thingies on the right shoulder, because I wanted to round off working on him.
I am pretty content with the result - he should strike fear in the hearts of any Treshold agents crossing his path lol
Hmmm... I need rules for catching victims with that chained meat hook to draw them in for proper treatment with the cleaver >:D

Lpc- 53 reapers eldritch horror
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Ages ago I hosted the "Shadows of Yog Sothoth" campaign for our group. The single monster from that entire campaign that still comes up is: The Crawling One, a man shaped horror composed of countless maggots.
Very nice, I have that figure and was planning to paint him for this :) Too late...

"I saw its bloated, repulsive and unstable outline against the moonlight and set in what would have been the face of a natural creature, its huge, blinking eyes which reflected all the lust, abysmal greed, obscene cruelty and monstrous evil that has stalked the sons of men since their ancestors moved blind and hairless in the treetops. In those grisly eyes were mirrored all the unholy things and vile secrets that sleep in the cities under the sea, and that skulk from the light of day in the blackness of primordial caverns."

I just finished a mini (base drying atm), and have to figure out which one to paint next.
- Would degenerates/inbreds be a too simple minded solution?
- Are werewolves part of the mythos canon?
- Would hybrids be considered fishy?
- Given the rules, painting a maniac would probably just be crazy?
I need inputs, folks, please!
-
Are werewolves part of the mythos canon?
I would posit that there is no such thing as mythos canon. Lovecraft didn't invent a mythos or establish a universe or a canon, he just wrote a bunch of stories. August Derleth is the one who invented the thing gamers think of as Lovecraft's mythos, and then various gaming products codified it and set its boundaries. For me it would all depend on how the werewolves were handled in a tale as to whether they were "Lovecraftian" or not. For instance the Werewolves in Twilight would not count, but a tale of a degenerate, but once-noble family brought low by an ancient curse, in which the protagonist discovers his taint and is sent mad by it definitely would. :)
(Incidentally, the first RPG scenario I ever GMed was a game of Call of Cthulhu: it was out of the back of the rulebook, and involved a pack of werewolves and no 'mythos' elements whatsoever. So if Chaosium thought Werewolves were allowed in their mythos game, who am I to argue?)

I finished painting another Giant Vermin today (with black fur), but I don't think I should enter it (a bit boring with two of those).
Instead, you can go take a peek at http://argonor-wargames.blogspot.dk/ , if you'd like to see it. I had to get it done right away, as it is a planned part of my Cult de Ghouls.
Now I have to decide, what to do next... :?
-
I guess I'll have to 'officially' answer Argonor's questions as best I can...and please, anyone feel free to chime in on this. So, in the spirit of this very fine Gentleman's painting showcase I shall decree:
Degenerates or inbred guys are essentially human and not monsters...possibly you could make a better argument if they are mutated? Tentacled? Generally a bit 'not human'...but still not really the game. Monsters, monsters, monsters!
Werewolves are for sure allowed...although a trifle common I'd have said. ;) Old Lovie himself wrote a poem about one...Psychopompus? Something like that...
Hybrids are fishy...yes? I think yes is the answer to this. :)
Maniacs are human...now if he had tentacles...
Hope this helps!
-
OK, I have to paint up a couple of degenerates/inbreds to finish my Cult de Ghouls (as I planned it), but they have no weird mutations (apart from their general appearance, I'm using some old West Wind minis), so I'll have to postpone working on another entry until they are finished.
Let's see if I make it in time... ::)

"They made no sound at all themselves, and even their membranous wings were silent. They were frightfully cold and damp and slippery, and their paws kneaded one detestably.”
–H.P. Lovecraft, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath
Here's a conversion I just finished up this weekend (except for final basing, I like to do that in bunches, for consistency)
Figure body is a plastic Dreamblade something-or-other (don't remember character name) with face cut off and a blank face/skull sculpted with GS. The tubular stuff on chest is GS covering up a huge scar with frankenstein-type stitching - figured that wouldn't seem quite right for a creature like this (and no mad doctor or surgeon would survive to get close enough to cut on this guy...). I had to run a pin through the chest to keep the wings attached, so tubules also covered up the bent pin point. Pros and cons working with these hard rubber/plastic click figures...
Wings are a metal set from the bits box, no idea on the source. Had to pin feet to the base, as balance was way off due to weight of wings.

LPC 62: Hound of Tindalos
Reaper Miniatures, Sculptor K Williams
Because of their relationship with the angles of time, they can materialize through any corner if it is fairly sharp—120° or less. When a Hound is about to appear, it materializes first as smoke pouring from the corner, and finally the head emerges followed by the body. It is said that once a human becomes known to one of these creatures, a Hound of Tindalos will pursue the victim through anything to reach its quarry. A person risks attracting their attention by travelling through time.
Kind of based on that description I tried to create a smokey look. I don't think I pulled it off very well, but that's why we try new ideas and techniques.

Great conversion, pacarat, and I very much like the colouring of the Deep One! How did you work with Reaper Bones miniatures? Heard a lot of bad stories about problems with colour adhesion ...
Thanks...
Here's my take on it all...
What i've read is that the bones need to be cleaned well prior to priming. I soak them in hot soay water for several hours, then give them a scrub with a toothbrush. Minimize handling with bare skin until primed.
They really need a good solid coat of paint/primer as a foundation. Then seal well with glosscoat/dullcoat after painting. I also mount figs on craft sticks or bases so I'm not handling fig during painting process.
Has worked so far, though the few figs i've done haven't been handled much. :)

LPC 64 West Wind 'Great Uncle Thulu'
Hi,
My first ever post to Lead Adventure Forum! A mini from the recent Empire of the Dead Kickstarter, I believe he should be available soon (don't think it was an 'exclusive'). While really it is 'Victorian' in vintage, I think a slobbering tentacle-man wouldn't update his wardrobe too often! Hopefully he meets the 'eldritch horror' criteria.
People speak in whispers of the mob boss Great Uncle Thulu. They speak of his joviality, out-dated dress style, and his love for fine cigars, but also of his ruthlessness. It is rumoured that none who have seen his face have kept their sanity for long, and the lucky few who still retain the capacity for speech tell of a bottomless stare peeking out from a writhing mass of tentacles. As he carves a bloody swathe through the crime empires' of the local mob bosses, one can't help but notice a particular pattern to his actions, that speaks of a deeper, darker time to come....

I think your post should be moved to the general CoC board where I am sure it will get the same appreciation.

The sculpting on the fig suggested wrappings to me so I went with a mummy paint scheme. These monsters are associated with Nyarlathotep so the mummy theme seemed to fit. The scenery is a prepainted aquarium piece.

What a great idea, pacarat!
8)
I have yet to find a Nightgaunt that works for me and this may well be the answer.
Nicely done.
I shall be stealing that idea, most likely.
:D
-
Dolmot you cheeky git :D are you passing Tolkien of as Lovecraft?
Crossovers are extremely Lovecraftian because mythos is universal, even multiversal. This one may not be widely acknowledged by scholars yet, but it makes sense when you think about it.
Meanwhile, can you check the numbering of entries?

:D
You're welcome to it... :-)
I have a few other Nightgaunts (old Hobby Product) in the lead pile - but they don't have the stature and menace this guy seems to have. Cant beat the Bones pricing, that's for sure...
When I do another one, I'll take some more time on the shape of the head. (Like I did with the dream blade one earlier in this thread). Still learning the ropes with Green Stuff...

Now if only I could narrow down the choices in my pile and choose something to paint for this thread...

I think I know exactly what I'm gong to do... finished my Cult de Ghouls today, and have to finish off the Magus for my Dagonites tomorrow, but THEN... :D

That is a great sculpt*.
Where is it from?
*Great paintjob, too.

The Qu-Sh-Ug was a kickstarter late last year (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/106178936/qu-sh-ug-casting-fundraiser-by-pure-evil-miniature?ref=live)
Hopefully it will get a full release soon as I want another one.

Cheers, mate!
I have just joined the queue for one of those too.
:D

Did you layer all those scales on, or did you drybrush to get that fine pattern? The details on that skin/hide are fabulous! :)

LPC #73: Night Stalker
'For crouched within that centuried coffin, embraced by a close-packed nightmare retinue of huge, sinewy, sleeping bats, was the bony thing my friend and I had robbed; not clean and placid as we had seen it then, but covered with caked blood and shreds of alien flesh and hair, and leering sentiently at me with phosphorescent sockets and sharp ensanguined fangs yawning twistedly in mockery of my inevitable doom.'
H.P. Lovecraft, The Hound

Forgot to mention: Heresy Miniatures.

LOVE IT!
Being new to the "Party" I missed out on this Mini, I need to find my own "King in Yellow" now LoL

Here is a creature, built with spare parts from action figures and extra tentacles ( I always have some of those... :o) and some green stuff. Stuck to a washer and painted to taste. I think I'll call him; LPC 74 The Thing That Should Not Be.
great Old One
forbidden site
He searches
Hunter of the Shadows is rising
immortal
in madness You dwell
Crawling Chaos, underground
cult has summoned, twisted sound
Out from ruins once possessed
fallen city, living death

See, you can get a quote from just about anywhere. ;)

Excellent work Uncle Mike! A brilliant scratch build and fantastic paint job accompanied by killer lyrics from one of the best bands!
Got an entry for the Painting Circle on my workbench, fingers crossed I get it finished in time to enter ;D

LPC 75 - Brown Jenkin
"That object—no larger than a good-sized rat and quaintly called by the townspeople “Brown Jenkin”—seemed to have been the fruit of a remarkable case of sympathetic herd-delusion, for in 1692 no less than eleven persons had testified to glimpsing it. There were recent rumours, too, with a baffling and disconcerting amount of agreement. Witnesses said it had long hair and the shape of a rat, but that its sharp-toothed, bearded face was evilly human while its paws were like tiny human hands. It took messages betwixt old Keziah and the devil, and was nursed on the witch’s blood—which it sucked like a vampire. Its voice was a kind of loathsome titter, and it could speak all languages. Of all the bizarre monstrosities in Gilman’s dreams, nothing filled him with greater panic and nausea than this blasphemous and diminutive hybrid, whose image flitted across his vision in a form a thousandfold more hateful than anything his waking mind had deduced from the ancient records and the modern whispers." H.P. Lovecraft, Dreams in the Witch House

LPC 76 - Flying Polyp
The flying polyps were a horrible elder race of half polypous, utterly alien entities... They were only partly material and had the power of aerial motion, despite the absence of wings...They exhibited a monstrous plasticity and ... temporary lapses of visibility... Singular whistling noises and colossal footprints made up of five circular toe marks seemed also to be associated with them.
—H. P. Lovecraft, "The Shadow Out of Time"
I wanted to try and get the five toed footprint while still giving it the anemone/coral feel. The anemone tentacles are made from dried floral fronds coated with two part epoxy glue and primer.
Tsathoggua and Formless Spawn Diorama nearing completion...Should I use the original LPC number I used for the WIP pics?

Crisp little sculpt, when they were first released I was really interested in them. Finally broke down for them along with the rules :)

Giant Deep One. A hideously overgrown two faced, four armed monstrosity who it is rumoured was the first of the Deep Ones and has both immense strength and a formidably thick skin. Guaranteed to sap the sanity from any adventurer foolhardy enough to track him down!

Oh Holy Crap! :o
That's very well done.

I don't think I've ever seen a four-armed Deep One before. It's like the horrifying bastard offspring of Mother Hydra and a Gug...

Ooooh, thats nasty one! Very B.P.R.D.

Impressive painting jobs!! I don't know how I could have missed this thread!! I would like to be part of the LPC, so here we go:

Giant Deep One......
...really does take the biscuit!
:o :o :o
Bloody amazing!
Great job on a HUGE figure.
:-* :-*
Where is it from, never seen it before...?
-
It was an action figure that I picked up from the local boot fair a while back, not sure what it is from :? Maybe Ben 10? Thought it might work quite well. I love rummaging through the toys at the boot fairs looking for useful pieces
Cheers for the kind words
Steve
Just had a quick search and discovered it is a Generator Rex - Slam Cannon Rex figure
-
I have a lot of "toys" in my collection. I always check out TV & movies toys when they hit the market. There are lots of "toys" that work right out of the box or with a good repaint.
-
Love the paintjob and figure done by einarolafson (as always :-*) but that Giant Deep One is great stuff. 8)
I'm all excited by these new great entries and have finished another myself...get painting fellows, I still have a couple left on my pile and I can feel the urge coming over me! o_o

With any luck I will have my take on a Star Vampire finished tomorrow
Quick question - Does posting an entry in the LPC entitle us to place the associated badge in our signature?

Star Vampire
"The star vampire dwells in outer space and is characterized by its ravenous appetite for blood. The creature uses its enormous talons to capture its prey, grappling and crushing the unfortunate and then draining the victim's blood through its tubular suckers. It is normally invisible, but following a sanguine repast, the star vampire becomes temporarily visible from the undigested blood it has absorbed."

This should've been posted as #100 :)
oh well, may as well throw in the towel! I was doing that one for the big #100! :(
-
Nah, much as we love Cthulhu, he isn't one of the Outer Gods, just their High Priest.
Number 100 should be Azathoth itself, the Sultan of Chaos (and swing)! o_o
-
Seems the Mythos minded do think alike. After admiring the Reaper Cthulhu I finally took the plunge and picked him up, and then instead of finishing any of the multitude of figures I have, some already assembled and primed, I decided that this Circle needed the big guy represented and so began work on him, hoping to get him finished in time. Eh, painting circle or not, it's a great sculpt that I'll be glad to have finished no matter what.

LPC 83 Servant of the Old Ones

Ah, thats why I've never seen it - I'm not a fan of the Frothers Forum.

LPC #84 The Watcher
"But the horror was not in the thing's form, despite being an aberration far beyond earthly nature. The horror emanated from the thing's single, massive eye-an eye that was the lone feature of the pendulous fleshy sack. There was no obvious mouth, ears or any other organ; simply an enormous, viscous eye that gazed directly at Chambers as if he were a specimen of marginal interest."
The Watcher from the Void, Eric Frank Silver, 1936

Wow, Bob, that's scary. Tremendous piece of horror!
I don't think I have seen the miniature before, is it something of your creations?

I am indeed a party to this particular entity destined for the Strange Aeons oeuvre. Uncle Mike has been pondering some of the more obscure fringes of the esoteric and bizarre. I thought it best not to question his request for the sculpture in question.

Aren't Cthulhus just display minis and hard to use as anything but scenery and objectives? Has anyone seen a AAR/BR featuring a fully sized Cthulhu.
-
Seeing as an actual "in scale" Cthulhu Miniature would be around 1.5 meters tall at 30mm scale - none of the Cthulhu "Miniatures" I own personally are that tall, the RAFM Great Cthulhu is about 125mm tall, the Pulp Monsters 'monster' when assembled in the "Eternal Slumberer" configuration is 150mm tall, whilst the Reaper Bones Cthulhu comes in at a whopping 230mm tall - but even so not big enough LoL!
I think they are better served being put into use as Star Spawn on the Gaming Table (or "Godlings" in Strange Aeons).

I figure if my guys ever have actually fight against an Elder god, actually showing that elder god would be less effective than just implying his presence by a worsening blanket effect or a few tendrils or a hard time limit (after X turns Cthulhu arrives and everyone still present dies/goes mad), or some other game effect.
JUST IN CASE people think I'm full of it LoL - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121236368698 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121236368698)

Naw, I saw that auction when I was trying to find the mini in the first place.

LPC 88
Oh my god, what a fantastic topic, full of creatures! I got no idea how I managed to miss that, but here is my Servitor of the outer gods.
Mr. Adventurer guy has shed some light on him and he is not happy with what he sees.

Been a bit busy getting stuff ready for the LPL...hope to be on track with a few more monsters done by the end of tomorrow...photoed later next week. Still time fellows.
-
Should have something new myself in a couple of days too :D
-
I've got a lot off my lead pile...running down into the 'could be used as mythos' figures. And a few 'what is that? Well, at least it has tentacles' models. Will have a rummage tomorrow at the local gaming shop.
-
As with a lot of my collection of Miniatures I'm in "Catch Up Mode" (my AD&D Miniatures and Mythos Miniatures being my biggest targets atm) - as I had an electrical fire a while back, and my Mythos/1920's collection were one of the things that came off worst - the ones that survived had to be stripped due to smoke damage, or being covered in melted plastic or melted figure case foam.
I was put off my favourites for some time (which contributed to my tardiness over finally getting into Strange Aeons - a big thanks to my partner, Linda, for giving me the final push there) but now I'm back "into" them, and more passionate than ever!
Very soon it will be "Mi-Go" in the painting circle again . . . . . .
-
I really wish that I could have entered something into this before it ends but that looks unlikely.
Damn these eyes of mine.

Well, the thread has slowed down quite a bit, and there are still 12 slots left, so you never know.

Yep, thats what I've been thinking. It was perhaps a mistake to restrict this niche subject more by only having monsters. if it were any of the previous groups it would have filled in 3-4 weeks. I think we're creeping on 6 or 7 now? I suspect the interest level in these types of esoteric subjects only goes so far after the initial burst. I like the stories and played the games, but I find it hard to motivate myself to paint much in the genre. Although to be fair, people have turned out some smashing stuff!
-
Well, I think quite many regular mythos painters
1) have already posted something and/or
2) are participating in LPL, which can easily take all your hobby time and more. Considering this, direct comparison to earlier clubs isn't very fair.
I did both, and counted about ten regulars in the LPL list. Besides, I'm giving all those "only noticed this after six weeks / just got mine undercoated after six weeks" people a fair chance instead of hogging another slot for myself. But I'm going to do it if you don't hurry up. ;D
Allowing investigators too would have made this just Pulp II so let's behold the unspeakable things this time. It's almost over already.

I'm not trying to hurt your feeling mate, but the proof is in the pudding. There may be a good number of Mythos painters but the Wild West and PA finished VERY fast in comparison, like about half the time almost. Just to add context, the Western one was done over the holidays. There MUST be some reason for this well beyond the handful of people who take part in the LPL. :D
-
If I'd known that this would run another couple of weeks beyond my last entry, I'd have painted at least one more up, but I thought it would end by last weekend.
I really wish that I could have entered something into this before it ends but that looks unlikely.

Hmmm.... o_o ::)

I suppose it all comes down to time put in. I myself am painting stuff for this as well as the LPL. There is still plenty of time for anyone to get a figure in. The quality in this thread is amazing and I must thank everyone who managed to get a monster done up. Guys that fill the thread with complaints and banter...not so much.
Get painting, there is still time. ;)
-

Cant argue there! Not sure which is my favorite so far!
-
Not complaining, Mike, just wishing/hoping that I could/can participate.... :'(
I shall have to try and get something done before it finishes.
:D
As for the quality of the entries thus far: Amazing!

Mi-Go tomorrow from me :D

I've been meaning to get Strange Aeons to the table for ages and I have a monster or two to get on with. Might be able to earn the Lovecraft badge after all!

Lead Painters League, just check the big link on the top right above the LPC announcement! :)
-
MAN !! Too bad i missed the deadline i would have loved to enter 3 teams
well at least by next year i will have a ton more minitures to present :D
-
Still time to get a few more done for the LPC! I've finished a small one...hopefully I will post it later today or tomorrow...
-
Very nice new entries, love them :-* :-*.
I have finished another small miniature in time,
LPC-89: The Hooded (miniature by Mason), could be seen emerging from weird angles in abandoned houses. From the distance it used to be mistaken for a cloaked person or even a monk, but people soon learnt that reality was far worse than that.

Beautiful painting. I love it when someone can take something truly repellent and make it attractive at the same time.

Very nice paintjob. I love the crisp detail in the spots. :o

i admire your talent good sir !

Amazing. Love it. :-*

WOW! :-*

Whoof! Well done! Some great colour choices there! :-*

Wow, some great work! With 89 joining it just keeps getting better and better! I'd be proud to play on a table with any of these minis.....

his must be my absolute favorite of the LPC. It is fantastic and absolutely revolting! The green mottled walking toothed sphincter vagina slug monk. I shall be angst ridden.
-
That's brilliant! :-* It's the look I was going for in red but missed the mark with. You have inspired me to return to it with this wonderful paintjob. :)
-
:-* That is terrific! Love the colors and the design.
-
Ps I do like your wallpaper!

A tough act to follow! Here is another figure I've had on my painting desk for quite some time. From Games Workshop...but Lovecrafty enough for me. I hope you will agree...
LPC 90 Night Stalker
For crouched within that centuried coffin, embraced by a closepacked nightmare retinue of huge, sinewy, sleeping bats, was the bony thing my friend and I had robbed; not clean and placid as we had seen it then, but covered with caked blood and shreds of alien flesh and hair, and leering sentiently at me with phosphorescent sockets and sharp ensanguined fangs yawning twistedly in mockery of my inevitable doom. And when it gave from those grinning jaws a deep, sardonic bay as of some gigantic hound, and I saw that it held in its gory filthy claw the lost and fateful amulet of green jade, I merely screamed and ran away idiotically, my screams soon dissolving into peals of hysterical laughter.

I've never seen that figure before, I like it. Is it hideously expensive? (I'll look it up!). Nice paintjob.
-
Is it just me or has GW come out with some rather nice minis lately? I found myself shopping for some Vampire Counts minis the other day...
-
I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of shoulder pads/filigree/IP specific gack. Just a really well sculpted bat monster. The shot does it no justice as the wings are folded in a weird way...but they look fantastic. Full of detail and a real treat to paint. Can't remember what it cost but I'm sure it was more than I wanted to pay! Still, sometimes even GW gets it spot on. :)
-
Nice work, Uncle Mike.
:-*
I had that model and sold it last year some time.
You have made me regret that now.
-
Excellent work. I especially like the effect you have on the wings - fleshy (?) part between the wing spines...
-
LPC 91: Hybrid
Some of ’em have queer narrow heads with flat noses and bulgy, stary eyes that never seem to shut, and their skin ain’t quite right. Rough and scabby, and the sides of their necks are all shrivelled or creased up. Get bald, too, very young.
The Shadow Over Innsmouth, by H.P.L
This is my first Lovecraftian mini for my VUK/Strange Aeons game. There's plenty of Deep Ones already covered, but I love Shadow Over Innsmouth so much I wanted to do something from there, so I thought I'd go with the fishy frogs in there early forms. :D

LPC 92 - Blasphemous Construct
Through the fevered town had crept a curse which some said was greater than the plague, and which some whispered was the embodied daemon-soul of the plague itself. Eight houses were entered by a nameless thing which strewed red death in its wake—in all, seventeen maimed and shapeless remnants of bodies were left behind by the voiceless, sadistic monster that crept abroad. A few persons had half seen it in the dark, and said it was white and like a malformed ape or anthropomorphic fiend. It had not left behind quite all that it had attacked, for sometimes it had been hungry. The number it had killed was fourteen; three of the bodies had been in stricken homes and had not been alive.

Scary figure and nice paint work. Some lovely figures in here so far. I have liked the deep ones and Mason's hooded figures especially. Lets hope the big figures get finished for the last few spots!

LPC -94 Mi-Go, the Fungi from Yuggoth.
“They were pinkish things about five feet long; with crustaceous bodies bearing vast pairs of dorsal fins or membraneous wings and several sets of articulated limbs, and with a sort of convoluted ellipsoid, covered with multitudes of very short antennae, where a head would ordinarily be.... As it was, nearly all the rumours had several points in common; averring that the creatures were a sort of huge, light-red crab with many pairs of legs and with two great bat-like wings in the middle of their back. They sometimes walked on all their legs, and sometimes on the hindmost pair only, using the others to convey large objects of indeterminate nature. On one occasion they were spied in considerable numbers, a detachment of them wading along a shallow woodland watercourse three abreast in evidently disciplined formation. Once a specimen was seen flying—launching itself from the top of a bald, lonely hill at night and vanishing in the sky after its great flapping wings had been silhouetted an instant against the full moon.” (“The Whisperer in Darkness).
A repaint, a rebasing and some silfu grasses and they're ready to harvest brains anew.
Just got to finish the base on a sevitor of the old gods later and I'll stick that up too.
-
Fantastic new entries!! That winged nightmare is really disturbing :o :o!! So, that's good indeed.

LPC 96 Servitor of the Outer Gods:
And flanking it on either side were two lesser beings, equally amorphous, holding pipes or flutes in appendages and making that demoniac music which echoed and reechoed
in the enclosing forest."

(Pics washed out it's eldritch gribbliness a little. :/).
-
wow this one looks great....
after this toppic is finished we definetly need a second edition of this :D
-
Stunning work on the Deep One. Are there any larger piccies of him please? I'd love to see more of the eyes.
The servitor is a fantastically twisted model, great job on it too!
...and who will get to grab the last 4 slots?

LPC 97 - "Elder Thing" (RAFM Miniature)

LPC 98 - Cold Ones (Modiphius - Achtung! Cthulhu miniatures)
Cold ones are semi-corporial shades composed of snow and ice; found only in areas of the bitterest cold these servitors stalk their prey by appearing near (or around) their chosen target and freeze them to death.

LPC 99 - Big Deep One
" I think their predominant color was a greyish-green, though they had white bellies. They were mostly shiny and slippery, but the ridges of their backs were scaly. Their forms vaguely suggested the anthropoid, while their heads were the heads of fish, with prodigious bulging eyes that never closed."
i must say....i nailed it

LPC 100 Shoggoth or as I call it "Pinky"
It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. ”
— H. P. Lovecraft, At The Mountains of Madness
(http://i.imgur.com/ZLwnIRY.png?1)
After taking this picture the Kid went insane. Authorities are sure that its an elaborate Fake and the Boy on some kind of new hallucinogen drug.
I am sorry for the blurry Pic , the Lighting here is rather bad at nights, but its probably for the Better since the Miniature is a speedpaint attempt. One Basecoat, One wash, drybrush and loads of Gloss varnish. I experimented for the first Time with Tamiya for Blood effects and now it looks like something from a REALLY BAD B Movie lol .
Still, its way better for a Baordgame than unpainted grey Miniatures, but I can`t bring myself to put as much work in those Guys as in nice Pewter Models.
Edit: I know its a bit of a letdown for no 100, especially after some rather awesom entries, please take my appologies for not showing something more epic fitting to this whole endeavour. I would have wished for another number ;)

Beautiful! And now the starts revolve mindlessly and the gate is closed...but for how long? Before the collective sanity of the members of this forum erodes further it is time to put an end to this madness we have called: The Lovecraftian Painting Circle.
I must thank all the participants for their time, effort and general 'not-normal-ness'. Never before...and possibly never again will such a thing be attempted by the squishy hands of man! And what a go we have made of it! Eh? A hundred horrible fiends brought to life in blood-dripping colour! The painting club that challenged the world!!!
If you participated don't forget to claim your badge, it just may get you out of a tight eldritch spot in the future...and to those who only looked on; fear! Yes, fear what may happen to your sanity from viewing this anomalous collection. It may already be too late for anyone reading this, but before we are reduced to babbling lunacy let me say thanks to all for a great thing. We are the key and the gate!!! Ia! Ia! LeadAdventure Fhtagn!!!

I finished a (slightly silly) model for this last night, but didn't get this login authorised in time to post a pic before the circle closed. Looking forward to the next circle so I can help spread the horror. :D

Not a bad idea. I'll try and get some better photos over the weekend, plus pics of the beginnings of my Strange Aeons project, and post em up.
Thank you. I've been lurking and following the MOOSE thread (and read the whole thing, which took quite a while). Very impressive work, sir.
Oooohh... Another acolyte joining the ranks. Looking forward to see your work! :)

The talk on the street is that it won't happen till LPL8 is over. When it is time you will find it in link in the LAF information bar, top of the page) and as an announcement in the relevant board.
Baaaah... always with the LPL.
Boring! :-X

To quote a post our phreed made at the Swedish sub-forum: try turning your ADHD switch down to '6' and wait just a little longer. :)

My first post on LAF, so I hope I'm getting this right. I can post one Cthulhu mythos beastie a day? So I'll start with the Big C himself, from Fenris Games.

Unfortunately it has finished, Duff. The way we do these clubs is that we have a target number of entries (usually one hundred), and then the club is done. The current club running is on the Colonial Board.
But, by heck that's a bloody nice job you've done. Oh, and welcome!

Duff is a frother so lurking goes with the territory. ;).
Nice to see u here mate, looking forward to more of Ian's stuff nicely coloured in by your good self in the not too distant.

Hello all,
I am a new member here. I am a D&D and a Call of Cthulhu RPGs player and DM. Very impressed with Pulp sceneries and figures displayed on this forum and just started painting minis and accessories for my future games (Artizan and Copplestone Minis). Thanks to all for the inspiration, I just started making a Lockheed Vega floatplane (from AMT) for my 1930s pilot :-)
Here are two minis I painted :

I kit-bashed a "Shambler" together using an old (extremely) cheap Yo-Gi-Oh! figure. I simply hacked off his arms, legs, (stupid) hat, and his cape. I then used a bit of plumber's puddy to scupt a mouth (with toothpick teeth) and add some tenticles. He then got a prime in clear varnish (plastic varnish, Krylon I think is the brand I am using now) and a paint with some yellow, light green and lots and lots of some "super thick" ultra gloss (the 'slime' you see dripping from his tenticles).
I am quite pleased with my 99 cent figure I made with my 2 year old plumber's puddy.
A couple of views of the nasty thing are below.

Just finished painting up a plaque sculpt I did for 4A Miniatures, it's 224mm from top point to bottom and 173mm left tip to right. Retails unpainted at £12 and is available from 4A Miniatures at their shows, check them out - loads of lovely miniatures sculpted by Paul Muller, Kev Adams, Matt Gubser, John Pickford, Adam Gayford and more!!
