Title: Looking for some alternative Chaos furies
Post by: YPU on September 12, 2010, 02:45:25 PM
Heya people I am looking for some alternative models for chaos furies for my chaos deamon army. Any winged deamons that decently fit on a 25 mm base. Preferably without any weapons, but I could of course do some cutting.

For those of you who are wandering why I want alternative models, GW is currently asking 14 euro for TWO, and those aren't all that hot models anyway.

I figured that human sized winged deamons should be easy to find cheap, but so far I am failing horribly at finding them.

Greetz,
Tim

A few from Reaper

Warlord Harpies

Alura, Succubus

Lilltih, Succubus
http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/succubus/latest/65007
Adra, Succubus

I'd say the Harpies would be your best bet, six of them for $40, or 31 euros.

Thanks man, I wasn't even aware reaper sells miniatures in unit sizes.

Still, to be honest I am looking for something A little less feminine, since furies are demons of chaos undivided and anything with boobs apparently is dedicated to slaanesh these days.  :?

Well, black tree do some old style harpies (before GW retconned them to look like winged females).
Actually, I've got 4 of those, and 2 of the old GW ones in the "for trade/sale" pile if you're interested, but they are a bit smallish compared to current GW plastics.

(ordering from black tree is also a bit of lottery, your stuff may come quickly, but it can also take a year or more).

I'll be considering that white knight, for once it would be a trade not to the other side of any ocean!  lol How do those two different designs look together? And what price range are you thinking about?

Actually I am looking for some plastic wing less demon like creatures that I can ad wings to, but I find that composite models like that tend to end up a lot more expansive.

Actually, this is the first time I've really put them side by side and TBH, they don't match up all that well.

Hm, unit size is 5+ so A unit of four BTD's with a GW one as unit leader (even tough they dont have one) should work I suppose, Identical colouration should help as well.

Still, I have been thinking and I think a unit of 10 would be more optimal, then again I could order the rest from BTD and use a smaller unit until they get here... hmmm,

I am somewhat perplexed that there is no non GW company that doesn't produce generic winged demon plastics.

Well, I suppose you could cobble something together using plastic beastmen or ungor (do they do plastic bloodletters yet?) and some appropriate wings.

Yea they do plastic bloodletters for some time now, but since that is the biggest part infantry of my army I think I would prefer to have them look diferent.

I hadn't thought of beastmen yet, hm.

That doesn't sound too bad actually.  The smaller plastic beastmen.... ungors or something would make a nice body.  I dunno where you could get the wings from, there's the plastic Warhammer quest bat, but I don't think they make or sell those anymore.  Maybe Tyranid Gargoyle wings?

Doesn't GW sell the harpy wings as a bits pack? Ungor bodies, harpy wings, demon heads? (should come out looking like a nightgaunt - on that note, have you seen the nightgaunt on em4s site? http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Horrors.html (http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Horrors.html) )

I have a unit of the black tree ones, they are a lower quality mini but cost effective.

I don't see furies having to be big, are there any 15mm winged daemons that would do but also cost less?

For example:

I'll be getting a mystery box of some old warhammer from a friend of a friend who quit long ago, so for now I'm holding of buying furies, as it would then of course turn out there is a unit of the things in that box.  ;D

The Harpy wings that GW sells separately are in fact Harpy wing tips, entirely useless without the base part of the wing that comes attached to the Harpy model.  :-[

Plastic GW Daemonettes with 40K Tyranid Gargoyle wings have become a popular conversion for both Harpies and Furies (as seen here):

Yea I once ordered those wings for my kroot mercenary army, big mistake.

anyhow, that link also has has pictures of ghouls with gargoyle wings, which I think I have seen before thinking about it now.

anyhow, friend of mine wanted to order some gargoyles to give some of his nid warriors wings, I think I might be able to snag the remaining ones for this, still I think I would need another box of both to fill out the unit.

Really, I am quite surprised there is no manufacturer that makes Not-furies as a alternative, considering how popular that market is these days.
