Hey, folks! Since I got out of fire school, I'm on a roll! lol
We just released Void Pirates! It's our latest skirmish game--a streamlined sci-fi rules set designed for fast play and easy character design with minimal fuss.

What makes VP different from Blasters & Bulkheads 2nd ed. (a sci-fi game we released three years ago)? VP uses a streamlined combat resolution matrix for faster play. VP features faster character generation with a little less number crunching. VP also incorporates the campaign system I built for Goalsystem Delves, adapted for a generic sci-fi setting.
Thanks for checking it out!

Interesting. Good price.
-
Cool, I remember from the playtest that I liked the character design system. Flexible but fast.
-
Thanks! I plan on playing a few games myself once I get some more time!
I am going to try some 15mm sci-fi/supers (ala Guardians of the Galaxy) using these rules.

Scott.

Glad to see your back on fire to get back in the game.

Grimm, thanks! Really appreciate it!

I got an email from Wargame Downloads last week saying that I might be interested in "Void Pirates". "But didnt Mr Pyle stop writing games?" I thought.
When I took a quick peek and realised that it was a streamlined version of B&B I knew that I had to give it a look. An old gaming buddy was visiting for the weekend so we set up a short game, detailed elsewhere on the forum. It was absolutely great.
Long story short, Im glad that you are back writing games Scott. Playing VP has got me all sorts of fired up for painting some more figures for that particular niche (not that I am short in that department).
A couple of points:
- I love the single column, plenty of white space format. It makes the rules easier for me to read on a tablet and easy to find in hard copy.
- The game could do with a few more scenarios, long a particular strength of the Goalsystem games. I used a B&B scenario and as I have a lot of the other Goalsystem products I have access to very many scenarios, each with a lot of replay value (due to the subplots), but it would be nice to have a few more specific scenarios for Void Pirates.
- Although other Goalsystem games are not hyper complex, I really do prefer the stripped down version of the game in VP. I hope to see many more releases using this as the baseline.
Thanks for making a great game :)

Hrmm.. I'm a sucker for indie companies and nifty rules. Anywhere I can read about the GoalSystem mechanics?

Google "Goalsystem Review" and you'll find a bunch, mostly talking about the Goalsystem Delves dungeoncrawler rules. The engine is pretty universal with lots of minor tweaks, and has been steadily streamlined and revised for ease of play and better balance over the years.

Thanks.

Take the plunge Dentatus, for $8, you won't be disappointed :) It's a solid, fun system.
I like the new version of the system A LOT Scott, super quick. I'll be busy trying to figure out how to incorporate my 'force users' into Void Pirates, I'll be super happy 8) I really like the minions/mooks aspect of BB too, so I can easily use troopers and just represent a trooper with three models and voilą, I'm a happy camper.
-
Just bought these based on Cheetor's praise - I'm a sucker for space-crew rulesets. I use 5 Parsecs from Home (with some of the 5 men at Kursk activation spliced in) but I'll be glad to try this out.
-
Thanks, folks! Really gratifying to here this feedback!
Cheetor, single column, clear layout with plenty of white space is the way to go for me in the future.
This streamlined GS is also where I am heading. I am thinking of revisiting SuperSystem using this approach, but I would not call it SuperSystem--maybe Super Mission Force or something like that? Quick chargen, quick action resolution, comic book campaign system incorporating more tropes from 1970s and 1980s comics.
And I may work on some more scenarios for VP in the meantime. Release a couple scenarios and some new abilities for a couple of bucks. We'll see!

I would be very happy to spend a few bucks on a document that contains the missions from Super System, Chaos on Cronos and Blasters and Bulkheads tweaked to fit Void Pirates.
It's easy enough to port them really, but having a document with the scenarios, subplot/special rules in one place would be very convenient.
Much as I enjoy super hero shenanigans, space opera is my preference, so I hope that we get some more Void Pirates content too.
Thanks for the response :)

I can certainly see porting some of that stuff over, also adding in some henchmen rules and a few new traits. I'll look over some stuff this weekend and see what can be done.

Exciting news, I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

OMG! If you fast play version SuperSystem like this I'll loose my mind 8)
Keep it up! Fast play is really what it's all about, I think SuperSystem would benefit from some streamlining. You might find a whole new audience. Just keep the multiple man power :-*
-
Also, friendly reminder that the white monster apocalypse dice make perfect goal system dice. Only faces which are blank or have one or two explosions. Very quick to read, makes the fast play even easier.
-
Really liking this ruleset. Thanks to the quick crew creation process this makes a great pick up game, while the campaign rules offer longevity.
Henchmen and more traits (or even just guidance for creating our own) would be icing on the cake.
Thanks, Scott!

Took me a while to see you meant Monsterpocalypse...but damn...what an awesome idea! And I have many of those, so double win!

Hm, I blame autocorrect there. Yes, monsterpocalypse dice. I used it while playtesting the new version of supersystem and the little explosion symbols add a lot to that genre. (kapow, wham!)

Being a fan of your rules these sound very good. One question, do they cover vehicles, something like the rules in Cronos would be fine? And if henchmen rules are coming then that answers my second question.
-
Yes, vehicle rules are already included.
-
Henchmen rules are coming!
-
Henchmen rules are coming!
Oooh, exciting news :D
-
Henchmen rules are coming!
Having my heroes be able to wade through a sea of henchmen is paramount to my enjoyment of a ruleset :) It's one of the things that drew me to SuperSystem. The ease of using them like a single character, loved it!
-
Great news! Thanks, Scott! :D
-
I think I shall need to get these - I play far too little sci-fi games.
I might be able to revive my old Warzone and 40K collections a bit...
-
I just picked up the PDF, and now I need some Monsterpocalypse dice.
