Matt came over to give my freshly painted (but very old) Warmaster Daemons a run out.

He took the Empire and we played a basic "pitched battle"

The Empire took up defensive positions and attempted to flatten the Daemons on their "anvil"

However their hammer found the Chaos forces rather tough going.

Good stuff, always good to see Warmaster.

Empire’s strength is usually its shooting - especially against Demons or Chaos who are very light on shooting. Empire’s core troops are quite cheap, so they normally get a good block of infantry.

Yes - Matt was trying them for the first time and chose not to use cannon. We were also only playing 1500pts, so he could only have taken a single unit. I had a unit of ablative swarm which soaked up some shooting and his firepower on my left flank caused quite a bit of confusion and delay - but my sorcerer kept bring killed stands back. As a combined arms force Empire's a bit trickier to use in WM than some of the other forces.

Another game played - sadly my camera skillz let me down so there's not many pictures.

This time the Empire came with a plan and rapidly built themselves a defensive position of a hill.

Forgetting to deploy my Greater Daemon until half way through the game made for an even more uphill struggle!

Sadly the Empire cavalry caught my Hordes in the open.

Wormaster (a gaming day in Worcester) is coming up so I needed a game and Matt kindly obliged.
He took Empire and I had the Daemons

The Empire centre had a big clock of infantry with cannon in support.

The knights were soon bearing down on the Daemon hordes - but Empire knights are not really as good as you want them to be in WMR.

The doom seeking flagellants got their wish at the hands of the Beasts of Nurgle.

I attended Wormaster 4 (it's in Worcester, hence the name) yesterday.
I took my Daemons and faced Dogs of War (and army new to me) in the first game.

The first game had objectives scattered about the board with additional VPs for holding them at the end.

The battle lines began to close, though I was being outmanoeuvred on my flanks

A mighty scrum erupted in the centre of the field.

Good looking game

Couldn’t you do with some more heroes and wizards in a 2000pt list?

Possibly - but the characters are all quite high Ld and expensive and I only had 5 brigades to command (so less than two each).
I'd always rather have more warm bodies than characters, given the choice. But yes I did struggle occasionally - essentially - maybe I'll give that a try.

We’ve always found more commanders is better in WM. One player in our group always skimped on commanders and after every game complained that his troops didn’t do much!

With Demons you can have 3 wizards in 2000pts who are all OK commanders and can bring back stands of demons so I’d be going for lots of wizards!

I had three - two Wizards and one for fighting :)

And so to game two - Wood Elves on the *checks notes* frozen plains of Far Cathay

I was to face a *lot* of shooting.

However the Woodies also had to risk fighting if they wanted to grab objectives

Which resulted in an almighty punch up in the snow
