Started on these a while ago (and have got many, many more to do). Always liked the Bad Moons and the original Rogue Trader style orks and so here are the beginnings of my 'mob' :)
I've also got some Imperial Guard on the go (Copplestone sculpts) and will post when there's enough to take on the green hoard.
You might remember this one from while ago but it's the 'test paint' for the colours etc.

And here is the first dread along with a look at the base style. I'm going for red because if we get any games in with them I'll be able to play with some of the Mars terrain I've got.

And then we have the first boyz mob (only a small one for now)
The most fun was had with the tank which was for a fun little FB competition late last year.

Then there's a nob on a cyboar. I love these models and have managed to get a group of five together but only one is painted for now (note the reg plate).
And finally a group shot of the entire mob. Not galaxy conquering but they're getting there :D

Cracking stuff mate! :o
I always loved the Orks from the ‘Waaaagh, The Orks’ book days. They were torture to play with, but soooooooo much fun when everything broke down!
I’m sure Colin still has his Goffs somewhere! Maybe you and him could have a clan war!
-
Awesome stuff Jim. I had a horde of these when they came out and I've often wanted to revisit them (mine were never painted that well though)
-
Wonderful! I love old skool orks. And these boyz really score. That’s what I loved about Rogue Trader!
-
Great work there :-*
Love the tank
-
Thanks chaps :)
I’m sure Colin still has his Goffs somewhere! Maybe you and him could have a clan war!
Waaaaarrgghhhh lol
-
Lovely paint. Those particular orks with their plastic arms, marked the beginning of the end for me, but each to their own.
Looking forward to your Copplestone guard.
-
Very cool. :)
-
cracking stuff! I have to get to work on the pile of old minis i have laying about lol
-
When Orks were Orks and not fungus (remember that particular bit of fluff? Though even that was more years ago than I care to remember).
Great colours on those. My favourites were the late 80s/ early 90s Kev Adams ones.
-
Cheers again fellas :)
-
Very nice. Love the old space orks.
-
Excellent start! 8)
Love them even though my favourite clan back in the day was the Goff >:D ;D
-
So oldschool!!! Remembers me of my beginning with 40K Very well painted indeed
-
Thanks again :)
Got an Imperial Guard sentinel done, quite pleased with how it turned out but not too sure about the las-cannon :? Might swap it for something smaller.
Got a unit of guard primed and inked but doing the shoulder pads (as in the pilot below) is a bit daunting.

Oh boy!!! that is such a blast from the past, indeed!
Were do you get all the models from ?
-
Cheers Tom :)
Ebay mainly and a few lucky scores on here. I can just about cobble three together.
-
Oh boy!!! that is such a blast from the past, indeed!
I was thinking the same thing! I used to have that and imperial squad(when they came in a hard plastic blister), the penal squad(with bomb collars) and beastman! I remember the sentinel being a pain in the arse to assemble and very easily broken! :(
-

Yeah, I've had to pin this one and it's still a bit unstable. The beastmen go for silly money on ebay but I'm keeping my hopes to get at least a squad 8)

Sorry I’m afraid I don’t have mine any more mate or I’d send them down to you! These were the times when I didn’t play, I just wanted models I liked.
-
No worries fella, wasn't even thinking it :) I had some myself but got rid when I went to uni ::)
-
I think there maybe some imperial guard stuff in my garage will have a look at the weekend
-
Very nice.
-
Going to have this for this years Army Painter and it'll be a mix of Rogue Trader Imperial Guard and Orks and some fantasy Empire and Skaven.
I think I'll be finishing the guard squad first.
-
Love the weathering on that Sentinel. :-* :-*
-
Was going to enter these for the LPL but I'm out so might as well show them now.
I've finished a squad of Imps, a rhino and a commander. Rather pleased with the results and still got plenty to do lol

More to follow :)
-
Great stuff mate! :-* Are these based up to use on your mars terrain? Any more shots of the Guard Troopers?
-
Cheer mate, yes they are. Might as well get some more use out of it lol
I'll do some of the infantry shots later today if I get a chance.
-
The guard are lovely, makes me wonder where I put the box of them, because I'm not easily distracted, no sir.
-
Lovely stuff and brings back some old memories
-
Still my favourite Imperial Guard figures. Lovely work on them, you should be very pleased with them.
-
Very nice additions :-*
-
Thanks again fellas :)
For May I’m going to cheat a bit and tart up and re base some figures I’ve already had done. They were painted a long time ago and certainly need finishing. There’s quite a few figures that actually need parts completing and all of them need final highlights and varnish.
Here’s a group shot of them all (these are the only ones that are in this state, everything else is unpainted or primed). I’ll also do some sabot trays for the artillery :)
cheers
James
-
Made a cheeky start on the above last night :D
Two guns, crew and new bases. The figures had some touching up and a coat of matt varnish. The sabot trays for the guns are new as well.
Just noticed I still need to drill the barrel out on the cannon ::)
-
Jolly Nice (even with the solid gun barrel) :D
-
So needy. lol Very nice though :D
-
Maybe the barrels have been plugged? Lovely paintwork though and I like the fact that the figures sit within the base.
-
Very nice James.
Why yellow and blue?
-
Why yellow and blue?
I'm guessing they're from Nordland.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Maybe the barrels have been plugged?
Nope, I'm just an idiot lol
I'm guessing they're from Nordland.
Yup, I like the contrast as well as the naval aspect (hopefully more on that later).
-
Interest re colours. My knowledge of the genre is negligible :D
-
The Empire (Games Workshops version of Europe) was made up of various city states that had their own colours and characteristics. Nordland are blue and yellow and have a strong naval presence.
I used to know them all but it's been many years now and have forgotten a fair bit of it.
-
I finished tarting up the Elector Count for Nordland, Jakob von Sternheim :)
New base and shield along with replacing his shield arm, touching up here and there and then a liberal coat of mat varnish. The shield design is his coat of arms and is carried by his household greatsword unit(more on which later).
The horse is the Perry Green Knight one, the lower legs from the same, the upper body and head were from another Elector Count but with a hat change and both arms are from the plastic Empire knights set.

-
Lovely job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Yes, stunning, as good as I've seen.
-
Cheers fellas, quite pleased with it :)
-
very nice the count!
-
Lovely one. The composition is great, but the paintjob is out of scale. Tremendous work :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
It's quite an enjoyable way of doing it but the years gap in between is a little undesirable lol
-
Very nice! Always been tempted to collect some Empire models as they're just the right mix of fantastical and history-inspired elements for my taste. :)
-
Ooooh... Empire! Nicely painted fluffy Empire!
Cool thread, gotta read it from the start.
EDIT: Oh, there was RT first. Very nice.
EDIT2: The folks on the Warhammer-Empire forum and/or Warhammer-Empire FB site would love to see your Nordland painting. ;)
-
Thanks chaps :)
Only got time for one forum I'm afraid but I might put them on FB at some point.
-
Didn't finish all the tarting up for this month, in fact I only managed ten figures but the rest are in the painting pile so they'll get done at some point (sooner rather than later hopefully :) )
Greatswords to round this month off. As mentioned they have only been tarted up and re-based and I didn't spend to long on them as I think I would've been chasing my tail somewhat.
Greatsword unit, to be expanded as and when.

Flag detail
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/33/2619-280518234848-334651402.jpeg)
And the whole lot so far (quite a specialist group lol )
Skaven for next month I think (June).
-
Brilliant! I like them a lot.
Where did you get those nice bases? I also base my Chaos army on round bases and would like to have a nice way to set it up in "blocks".
-
Thanks :)
The figures are based on UK pennys (around 20.5-21mm in diameter) and the sabot trays are one I produce. They can be done any size and configuration, drop me a on if you’re interested :)
-
very nice painting especially the flag is nice!
-
Great looking army
-
Well, looks like this fell by the wayside again lol
Not to worry, I will be carrying on as and when I get chance but I thought I'd post pictures of my Empire builds that I think I posted up ages ago but Photobucket f**ked it of course and they were lost. No longer :)
I've had these some some sort of state for many years now but have finally got round to sorting them out and completing them. Most were damaged in some way and definitely covered in dust so a quick clean up and repair/paint job and they are table worthy.
First off is the big one and the one at the moment I'm most pleased with.

The second one that was finished was in an 'almost' state for months as I was undecided as to what to do for the tower but I got there in the end. Really pleased with how the patina turned out.

And the third one for now was again sat for a while whilst the tower top was faffed over. I got there in the end though.

And then we have a quick shot of them all together so far.

I've dug a fourth one out and will work on it as and when and will post when it's ready and of course I'll update with whatever old school figures I get done (even though Im buying more than I'm painting lol ).
-
:-* :-* :-*
Proper old school Oldhammer! You've made some fantastic stuff but there's something about these I absolutely love. I think you've nailed the look of an 80s to 90s White Dwarf illustration.
-
Those are quite wonderful :-* want to see a city based on these :)
And the patina is amazing!
-
A couple of smaller ones, then gated bridge with towers at either end and you're sorted!
Great work mate.
-
Thanks chaps :)
want to see a city based on these :)
I’ve got enough for a ‘city’, it’s just whether I can get them all done lol
A couple of smaller ones, then gated bridge with towers at either end and you're sorted!
I’ve got a covered bridge and was thinking of doing some village types :)
-
Well those are really lovely.
More please. :)
-
They look great, Jim. The patina is, indeed, spot on.
;)
-
Your buildings are really superb :-* Bravo !
-
Thanks chaps :)
-
:-* Those buildings look amazing, I really love the general shape of them, so much more interesting that the regular rectangular shapes you normally see
-
Brilliant :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Simply stunning work! :o
-
Wonderful work on those buildings - look quite real. Also quite like your Imperials.
-
As I said on FB, ecellent work.
I hadn't seen this thread since the sentinel, cool updates, I like that codex grey rhino a lot.
The bronze dome on the tower came out really nicely.
-
The scale of it! Damn your stuff is inspiring.
-
Many thanks again gents :)
Got a couple more bits to show for the Empire, a tree and a covered bridge.
The tree is called The Old Hand and has been there for at least 20 generations. It looks dead but the roots run deep and it is very much alive.
Then there is the covered bridge. This fits on one of my river boards; which is in storage for the time being but when it next comes out I'll take some photos of it in place.

Dunno what's next, we'll just have to see :)
-
Really impressive.
-
Great additions. A tumbled down version of the bridge would look great too. :D
-
Just found this thread. Those buildings are superb! Loving the nostalgic vibe combined with the brilliant execution.
-
Thanks again fellas :)
-
Cracking stuff :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Lovely stuff, I love the classic Empire models and terrain, although your terrain looks too good to be proper fifth edition buildings ;)
-
Cheers chaps :)
Got an Eldar dreadnaught done for this month (did him a while ago but only just taken the photos). I’m still undecided as to the finish, either mat, satin or gloss. I’m leaning towards gloss but opinions are sought

No idea what’s next but I have dug out all my Empire figures and am rather embarrassed as to how many there are o_o
-
That looks great. I sold all my RT Eldar as I could never get them painted well enough
-
Thanks :)
I picked up some Guardians the other day but they need stripping. I've also got some Harlequins but I'm too scared to paint those lol
-
I Iike that, nice job. I have an abundance of old Harlequins and can't decide how to paint them either.
-
Nice paint scheme. Simply, effective, damn well executed and very much in keeping of how Eldar are portrayed in RT!
-
Nice. I’d put a matte finish on the body and gloss the head.
-
Thanks :)
I’d put a matte finish on the body and gloss the head.
Now that’s a good idea 8)
-
Yes, Matt body, but definitely gloss on the head (trying hard not to go all Frothers..)
-
Done the gloss head, it looks good but it’s a sod to photograph decently lol
-
Well, the sequence is out but at least I'm slowly getting stuff done :)
This time we have some household knights. I went for something a little different for these. They are household but the idea is that they are the sons of major land owners, counts, lords etc that have to prove themselves in defence of their liege lord, hence the lesser armour and lack of lances.

I think I've got another 15 or so of these to do :?
-
I love how you've done these (particularly the bases), and I now realise how much I need a green knight, but where are you finding the time for all this? How many of you are there in that account?
-
Thanks :)
Just me I’m afraid. I tried cloning but he escaped ages ago and I haven’t seen him since lol
-
I guess I'll put these here then.
I've gone for a mix of shields and weapons to help them look not so uniformed. Also had a bit of fun with the Nippon version :)
Got another sprue of the original skellies but will get the second incarnation if I need more as the originals are a bit expensive.
-
very nice looking skellies indeed
-
I see you've gone for the Sanada clan for your dead ashigaru lol
-
Lovely work, I should sort mine out at some point, probably very badly painted in the 80's :o
-
Nice. The 'original' GW plastic skeletons were far superior to these later ones (late 90s / 5th edition?), so I'm looking forward to seeing you do them!
What gaming plans do you have for all this old GW stuff?
-
Cheers fellas :)
What gaming plans do you have for all this old GW stuff?
The ultimate goal/hope is to play a large 3rd edition Warhammer game but that's probably very unlikely. They will be used in fantasy versions of FFoL and M&T though at some point soon :)
-
Cheers fellas :)

I'd play but I somehow doubt we'd get many more!
-
I've missed the proceedings in this thread, and wanted to come by to tell how cool your Empire buildings are. Not just cool, but totally jaw-dropping awesome!
-
Thank you :)
I’ve got others on the go but won’t have them ready for a while yet.
-
Got some more odd figures done. Really need to get some Skaven on the go though :?
Skellie wizard and familiar for the small warbands.
Generic white wizard (old Saruman figure from Citadel).
And a Maruader orc. Got a few more of these on the go as there’s a 30min a day painting ‘challenge’ going on on FB which is quite a good way of doing them.

Nice. Love the liche, that one is in my collection too.
-
More old school gems. The liche is brilliant, I really like your paint job.
-
Cheers fellas :)
Got some Skaven primed today so hopefully they’ll be next.

Great stuff, mate.
I had not realised that you gotten so many done as I have only just found this thread..
Most impressive, one could even say NTC.
:-* :-* :-*
Really liking the footprints of those buildings, great mix of shapes.
Top drawer, Mr Bibbles.
8) 8)
-
Excellent painting on those Orcs. :-* Looking forward to seeing what you do with the skaven. I still have a couple of dozen that I need to paint for a Heroquest game, so some inspiration might get them moved up the painting queue. ???
-
Lovely orcses!
-
Thank you kindly gents :)
Skaven up next at some point :D
-
really nice orks
-
I stupidly sold all my Skaven years ago :'(
-
Fantastic! They bring back a load of memories! :-*
-
Those boys need some heavy dental work! Lovely painting.
-
Cheers fellas :)
-
Gorgeous work here. Love how you have really brought some of these sculpts to life!
-
I like the Orcs very much. ;D
-
Belated thanks gents :)
Got some stunties done. Same colour scheme as my very first army (same figures lol) 20 odd years ago :)

Like the colour combinations on those
-
You're on a roll mate! Nice! 8)
-
Love those little fellas!
Nice colour choices.
:-* :-*
Dwarves were my first army too, back in the day, but I reckon that was 30 years ago or so.
;)
-
Classic Wayne England style, gorgeous.
-
Yeah, do like that colour scheme, lovely blues.
-
Cute little fellas 8)
-
Thank you kindly gents :)

Like the colour combinations on those
Its just like my knights lol
Nice brushwork :-*
-
No spaghetti monsters posing as ducks on mine though lol
-
Excellent work. It make me want to paint mine up and also not paint them at the same time, yours are so good.
-

lol
More's the pity :D lol
-
like. like.
-
Cheers fellas :)
Finally got some skaven done. Pleased with the banner and hope to get more done over the Christmas period.

-
Nice paintwork as usual!
Ive most of these lying waiting to be dunked and stripped over the holidays. Nice with a bit of inspiration!
-
Good job on the browns. Nice clean paintwork.
-
really nice indeed
-
Great little group, the muted palette works well and the standard really sets them off.
-
Many thanks chaps :)
-
Very nice. That banner is great.
-
Nice work, mate.
:-* :-*
You have just decided for me that my Skaven will be the next mob to be rebased on rounds.
:D
-
Cheers fellas :)
Stone troll next and quite possibly my favourite troll out there. I went for an obsidian finish on the axe and went for it on the claws and teeth (he is a stone troll after all :) ).

Some nice effects on him, mate.
Liking that eye!
:-* :-*
-
Cracking work matey! :-*
-
I've no idea how I missed this .
Does not. St James of the Blue foam Brick partake of sleep? :`
Very characterful painting James I'll not miss it again.
-
That's an absolute belter. That's one of my favourite trolls too (as you know lol). The grey scheme just works, excellent stuff.
-
Love it. I did mine classic blue but this is more stoney. Judging by its smile I wonder if they called it stoned troll?
-
Thank you kindly chaps :)
Does not. St James of the Blue foam Brick partake of sleep? :`
Only on St Swithins Day ;D
Judging by its smile I wonder if they called it stoned troll?
Ah! I could’ve made a little doobie from styrene and stuck it between his teeth lol
Eldar next I think ???
-
Nice stone effect, lovely figure.
-
Lovely work Jim :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Loving the eye
-
Cheers fellas :)
So, a re-cap of what was done in 2018 (more than I thought lol)
Space Orks -
Boyz - 5
Support - 2 (Tank and dread)
Command - 1
Imperial Guard -
Troops - 10
Support - 2 (tank and sentinel)
Command - 1
Empire - (tarting up)
Troops - 10 + 5 cavalry
Support - 2 (cannon)
Command - 1
1 Eldar dread
7 skellies
1 wizard
4 orcs and 1 stone troll
5 dwarves
7 skaven
Terrain - 3 houses, a dead tree and a covered bridge
For this year I'll be adding to the above groups and terrain so a general continuation of what's gone on before :)
-
Nice to see you doing something productive and making good use of your time in retirement, Old Bean.
:D :D
-
Retirement, I wish lol
Got several large commissions on the go eating up most of my time but I've been getting in a bit of tarting up time here and there and here are some more Empire troops that have been tarted and rebased :)
The original work on them was done years ago and they probably would've done but it'll be good to get all my Empire troops to the same standard (sort of).

-
I'm currently working on those halberdiers/swordsmen too!
Looks great (yours).
-
Good to see you're still doing these.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Not great but they'll do as unit fillers.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Not great but they'll do as unit fillers.
They look pretty decent to me.
-
Decent?
They look GREAT! Love the stone troll back on the other page too! I have a big tub full of them, I was going to do a troll army back in the days when you could have one. Who was it, Throg maybe?
I'm going to have to go back and do some painting now too!!!
:D
-
I to am doing a bit of Properhammer painting to. It is a bit disconcerting that second hand ebay items you are looking for to filll some gaps cost as much or more than they did back in the day. I should have made an even more substantial investment.
-
Looking good Jim :-* :-* :-*
What rule edition do you use for Old warhammer?
Back in the day my brother, Andym, had an empire army but most of the troops didn't have arms nor were they fully painted :o :o :o
That was in the days before he was shamed by LAF
I have an old Dwarf army that I may have to get out and have a look at, also a woodelf army as well
-
Great stuff :o
-
Cheers fellas :)
Got some more done. Just touching up on these, bases, matt varnish and sorting the horses out (snapped tails etc) etc.

Fortunately I think I’ve got everything want but of course that will probably change in the future lol
What rule edition do you use for Old warhammer?
Nothing yet mate but it will possibly be a fantasy mod of M&T or the eventual mass battle rules from Fistful of Lead.
Bring out your lead :D
-
Nothing yet mate but it will possibly be a fantasy mod of M&T or the eventual mass battle rules from Fistful of Lead.
Great, No pressure.
-
Only a bit :D
-
It's a pleasure to see those old school pistoliers - so much better than the fantasy plastic ones.
-
Nice!
I have ten or so that I got in a long ago trade, with a sub-standard paint job. Had to do like you mentioned too, drill/pin to reattach the broken off tails.
I think mine need an upgraded paint job now!
-

So, they’re a tiny fraction of the cost of modern GW stuff?
-
Thanks again :)
Here’s a group shot of what’s been done this month. It’s literally ten minutes here and there and most of the work has be done already but it’s good to see them finally get done :)
I’ve got a Leopolds Leopard company (15 figures) that I might tackle next. They were almost finished years ago as well so it would be good to at least have one normal unit done (I’ve got about 70 bare metal ones to wade through at some point o_o lol ).
-
They look the part. Definitely do Leopold's Leopards next, I look forward to seeing them.
-
Cheers mate :)
I don’t think I’ll be doing spots on the leopard skins though lol
-
gosh, they look great.
love to know how people get such good results with AP / washes.
-
Thanks but no washes, just Foundry triads (apart from the metals which are just two layers and a GW ink wash) :)
-
They look great

ah yes, right.
thought they looked rather good - more so than I'd expect for AP in general.
-
Cheers :)
Managed to paint up a new toy this morning whilst waiting for a delivery to arrive. An orky Bowlburner :D
I love the old epic ork vehicles and always wanted to make some, probably since school lol
This is a resin kit. Don’t know the manufacturer as I got it from the bazaar here.

Lovely stuff I expect the spleenrippa to be painted just as quickly :D
-
Thanks :)
I hope it will lol
-
Those shots just scream 'Rogue Trader', love it!
-
Cheers :)
Finished off the Spleenripper and started looking at making a Lungurster and Gobsmasha lol

Brilliant stuff! When will you do the battlewagon with the tiled roofs on the back though ;D ;D ;D
Just saw your skaven too--superb (as is everything in this log really!).
-
Cheers mate :)
Yes, that's the intention but we all know how much of a butterfly I can be lol
-
Finished off one of the Elector Counts but he's had an arm swap and I'll use him as a generic lord; Wilhelm von Darkmoor.

Cheers fellas :)
I’ve only just noticed the bloody mould line on the leg ::) how a missed that before is beyond me o_o
-
I didn't notice it until you mentioned it!
-
They're on the rear legs as well lol >:( lol
I guess I'll be scraping them off and repainting the legs then ::)
-
Long grass is your friend...
;)
-
lol So a wheat field then lol
-
I hadn't noticed! The eye goes to the rider (which is magnificent), not to the legs, so don't worry at all.
-

He is right, ya know?
If anyone mentions it, just tell them that they are 'Go Faster Stripes'...
;D
-
I didn't notice it until you mentioned it!
Me neither, but now you mention it, what a eyesore lol
-
Nice job on that mini :)
-
no-one's going to notice a mould-line like that at anything like a normal, sensible viewing distance.
figure looks wonderful.
beautiful gold on the horse-armour.

He is right, ya know?
If anyone mentions it, just tell them that they are 'Go Faster Stripes'...
;D
Or hose seams. :p
-
Cheers fellas but I’ve scraped them off now as I couldn’t see past them lol
-
I’ve had a plan for a while now to have an old world fortified town (I’d like a city but haven’t got the space lol).
At the moment I’ve only got one wall section and a tower painted (tower still needs some work) but I’ve got another couple of walls ready to paint and will look at a gatehouse or some such. I’m possibly thinking that the gatehouse could be a self contained building but we’ll see.

You are definitely gonna need a bigger house!
;D
-
Oh, that's nice.
-
Spectacular! All you need now is for a weird comet to hit it.... o_o
-
Fantastic thanks stuff! It's already looking like it's from a page of WFRP.
-
colour me gobsmacked. glorious stuff as always.
if I had enough space i would offer you the opportunity to leave there when finished..
maybe you could get some warehouse space, put everything in it and charge a viewing fee, I am sure you would love to see it sometimes ;D
I do wonder if you made one of those miniature village tourist attractions what it would be like

Thanks gents :)

Sharpesburg? Jamestown?
lol

Bibblesville!
;D

Fantastic. I’m so glad to see these buildings come down off the shelf where they’ve lived for the last several years :)
-
Ooo - looking forward to this one!
-
That is simply brilliant.
-
very nice indeed
-
Thanks again fellas :)
No more 'guesses' for the name of the town either, it's not going to happen ;D
-
That’s looking fantastic!
-
Megalomania in its purest form ;) lol
Terrific project James :)
-
Brilliant! I hope the city goes bigger!
Milo.
-
Thanks again :)
Got a bit more done on this in between other projects. Also made a small start on a gatehouse that I'll post when it's looking more like what it should do.
The wall house is removable and there will probably be a few others to go next to it.

Holy crumb James, this is an amazing thread! :o Impressive to say the least
-
Loving the collection of buildings... fantastical but not overly so and a group that clearly goes together... looking forwards to seeing more
-
Very nice :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
Splendid :-*
-
Many thanks chaps :)
The intention (at the moment, it could change and probably will) is to have it at the end of a six by four table and potentially to have a dedicated board that has a moat and an ‘urban’ area and the walls etc will sit on top.
-
That sounds awesome. 8)
-
wonderfully good. Brilliant.
-
Bibblesburg is growing at an enviable pace.
Lovely work, mate.
:-*
Not sure that you have depicted the correct type of nails, though.....
-
:o
Gawd that's just :-*
When you get to the moat board, can you make it a real water feature?
Maybe have functional medieval toilets/privies in the walls to, or just some people emptying their bedpans out the windows or something, for added atmosphere?
-
Bloody hell James. This has just reminded me why I got into this nonsense in the first place :-)
-
Many thanks chaps :)

This about sums up my plans for a fantasy village. And I've brooded on that idea for years. Ah well; good to know it's in the best of hands... :D
Because when left to me, it would be finished around the time my Ultra Modern project would technically be moved into the Historical section... lol
-
Thanks again chaps :)

Not functional but having cess pits and garderobes is certainly an option.

lol
-
Talented knuckles, surely. Now where is his old thread using lentils for paving stones in a port? Hope he didn't lose all his photos in a certain bucket debacle.
-
Oh my!
Only just caught up with this ;D
-
I love them, wish i had more room
-
Rubbish James.
Of course I am saving all your pictures,to steal for inspiration :)
-
Cheers :)
I’ve got quite a few terrain board commissions I’m wading through at the moment so I’ve started on the moat/town boards in between drying batches.
The blue angled bit is a culvert and there’ll be a grill covering the hole. The walls etc will remain loose but there’ll be a definite ‘border’ between the grass bank and the town proper.
I’m undecided whether to have a full, static bridge or a very short protrusion and a drawbridge. Probably a removable full bridge but I’ll see when the gatehouse is made.

-
Good start. I'd go with a removable bridge too.
-
I'd go with a removable bridge too.
Across the whole span then?
-
That is looking very good. You need some late 16th c Spanish to guard it :-* :D
-
Across the whole span then?
Perhaps a short protrusion at either end to sit it on?
-
Man that is looking great.
I suppose that culvert leads to a sewer..
-
What is the board that you build your terrain on?
I've been trying to find some 25mm high density foam, but every time I search online all I find is stuff to re-upholster chairs.
-

I managed to get some relatively cheap Eldar troopers on eBay a while ago and have ‘test’ painted the first one. Quite happy with the scheme and it’s relatively quick so getting a decent sized force together shouldn’t be too taxing :)
-
I like that a lot. It's simple but effective as a paint scheme.
-
Cheers :)
-
Nice,really nice :-*

Cheers Guy 8)
Here's my LPL round three entry. The idea for a lot of the LPL entries is to get some of my 'oldhammer' lead mountain finished, and it seems to be working.

Lovely cliffs :-* :D
-
Classic Marauder orcs. Lovely work!
-
Cheers gents :)
-
No school like the Old School.
-
Here is my Round five entry and some Eldar. I'm going to try to get some more Eldar done for a future round of the LPL but we'll see how it goes. I do have enough Rogue Trader figures for a Galactic Heroes three way now :)

:-*
I also think that those are my four favourite Eldar Guardians too.
8)
-
They're probably mine too, the proto dire avengers. Too pricey on ebay though!
-
Cheers fellas :)
Managed to get them relatively cheap on eBay. Just lucky I guess :)
-
Very nice, especially the empire troops
-
Nice to see a fellow Nordlander here! Any reinforcements incoming any time soon?
-
Thanks chaps :)
Any reinforcements incoming any time soon?
Probably not for a bit. The next ones will be archers and I've got a drummer and standard to do with them. They're primed and ready but it won't be for a couple of weeks until I can put some paint on them.
-
Just a teeny update for this in the form of a couple of goblin wolf riders. Loved these when I was younger and the wolf sculpts are still great compared to today’s ones :)

Great stuff, can you paint all my old O&G for me :D
-
Thanks chaps :)
Great stuff, can you paint all my old O&G for me :D
Wouldn't be able to start until after Salute but pop me a pm if you're serious :D
-
Really, really liking these. Lovely sculpts and great painting.
-
Loving the green skins!!!
-
Cheers fellas :)
-
They're the early C21 Goblins too, proper collectors items. Are you going for a full FfoL warband of mounted goblins?
-
Only if I get them as a bargain lol
-
Re-based some Skaven I painted a while ago. Shaman, warpfire thrower and an over the top leader (not really old school but I really like the figure).

The warpfire is detachable, mainly for transport purposes but also to represent when it’s been fired.
And here are all the Skaven I’ve got so far. There’s some more troopers that have been primed but I don’t know when I’ll get them done.
-
Nice-good work, yes-yes!!!
The warpfire, bronze, and rats on the leader's base are especially cool!
Where did you source the swarm of rats on the base?
Did you prime with white?
-
Very nice job on those. Bloody vermin!
-
Very nice. Great troupe there. I've been musing lately about using rat ogre bodies with ogre heads to use as a flesh golem. You are spurring me on.
-
Skreeee!
Nice painting on the Skaven.
-
Thanks chaps :)
Where did you source the swarm of rats on the base?

The rats were from the newer plastic sprues and are all plastic and these were primed in brown.
Very nice. Great troupe there. I've been musing lately about using rat ogre bodies with ogre heads to use as a flesh golem. You are spurring me on.
That’s an interesting idea, looking forward to seeing you do it :)
-
I just decided to use an ogre gorger as a flesh golem instead for Rangers of Shadow Deep. Still an interesting idea, and I may even do some rat ogres as conversions for some ogre gorgers.
-
Excellent work! Meandering around my lead/plastic pile these last few weeks I just painted a bunch of Skaven myself. Not as awesome as these though.
-
Belated thanks :)
I've painted up a Zinge Industries tankette for my orks and it's turned out rather well. I might get a couple more as it's screaming for a more orky conversion :D

That tankette is wonderful. A perfect fit for your orks.

Very nice, grits must he squeeze in there nice and tight, lol

Thinking on getting another one and having a big shoota sticking out the front :D
-
That's turned out great.

They look great,oldies but Goodies!
Love the tank, wasn't aware of this maker, lots of interesting stuff on the site 👍

Nope, still living out the first one lol

Some lovely looking figures, and that tankette looks great...of course, it would go faster if it was red 8)

Cheers fellas :)

lol
I have to get out of my 'yellow phase' first lol

3 green thumbs up.

Got some 'orkytecture' done and have plans for several more including a vehicle compound. This was a test to get the colours right more than anything, the others will have more details on them (boilers, watchtowers etc).

Cool. Looking forward to Orktown.

Thanks gents :)

Looks great, but I have a hankering to put more spikes on the wall.
Ironic considering how many hundreds of spikes I have removed from
'War Hammer' stuff.
-
I did think about that and the option is there if I can carve loads more and not get bored lol

Cracking job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Takes you back a bit doesn’t it. Did we not have a Ork garage somewhere too?

Are you keeping them :D
-
Lovely work as always :D
-
Lovely! 8) It’s sooo nice to have some lovely sculpted, simple figures. A lot of modern figures have too much going on. You don’t need to fill every single little space or have your newest miniature delicately ballet dancing on top of a carefully balanced rock!
Great stuff!

Cheers fellas :)

My first ever 28 mm Army so I have to keep them one of these days they will get a repaint :D

No worries mate, I hope you get to do them soon :)

Lovely Stunties, mate!
:-*
They were my first army too (and still some of my favourite sculpts!), so I have a handful of my favourite Imperial Dwarves that I will get around to one day. Eventually...
Andy: Could not agree more, mate. I loathe 'foot on rock pose'!
>:D
Colin: Great finding some of your old stuff, I bet. That Dwarf wizard with the book under his arm is a classic. Love him!

Finished off some more Empire troops (so many more to go though lol ). Got another seven or so spearmen to do then I'll take a group photo of all the Empire troops so far.

The 'free company' troops will be a naval crew for my river patrol boat (when I repair it).
-
Lovely!
The muted tones on the archers, mixed in with the state colours looks spot on whilst also adding a splash of 'non-colour' to add interest to the force as a whole.
:-* :-*
The naval crew look great too, almost piratical.
Nice transitional work on the banner.

Absolutely lovely! :-*

The archers are my favourites, really nicely done. I don't get how you paint so well so quickly?!
-
Cracking job, have you used the gun crew arms for that spear chap?
-
Many thanks chaps :)

Yeah, it turned out to be a good way to do them. Some greyer colours for the next batch I think.
I don't get how you paint so well so quickly?!
I try to do one colour a night (triad) but it's usually two or three colours a week. They've been primed since October last year lol
have you used the gun crew arms for that spear chap?
Yes, I've got a couple more converted. It's turned out to work quite well :) Have to wait for the solvent glue to go off before drilling though otherwise they end up wonky lol
-
Cracking job :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

Nice job on those 8)

Those empire troops look wicked!

Thanks gents :)

Finished the repairs off in the river boat. Needed new rigging, a touch up with some paint, couple of details here and there and a sail. It’s not really accurate with regards to rigging etc but it’s a gaming piece rather than a model (if that makes sense).
Shame I haven’t got a river wide enough to use it on lol

Sounds like a new project for you , build a river?
I could do with some ideas to steal :D
-
Very nice indeed. What about your Thames board? Could you incorporate that set up into an Imperial port?
-
Nicely done - the rigging is good: simple but effective 8)
-
Thanks chaps :)
Sounds like a new project for you , build a river?
I could do with some ideas to steal :D
I'm thinking either two thirds or three quarters of a terrain board would be land and the rest being water so it could either represent a river bank or the coast. If I build enough then they could be placed next to each other to represent a wide river. If I had enough space then a blank board could go in between to make it even wider o_o
What about your Thames board? Could you incorporate that set up into an Imperial port?
Nah, it doesn't fit what what I've got in mind for the Oldhammer stuff unfortunately.
-
Shame I haven’t got a river wide enough to use it on lol
We all know what you will do about that.. how wide an oldhammer river board are you actually making then? ;)
Its a nice boat to
how many more boats do you need to make to go on/in/under your new river oldhammer board
-
Looks good, will it be getting a cannon-ish refit, or is that for future shipping?
-
Brilliant boat! I love it! Brilliant work on the Empire troops too, both the ones on the boat and the archers in the previous post.
-
excellent :-*
-
Thanks again :)
will it be getting a cannon-ish refit, or is that for future shipping?
Was thinking a couple of small, pedestal mounted guns, one on either side near the front.
how wide an oldhammer river board are you actually making then? ;)
Dunno yet

Nice tub, mate.
:-* :-*
I have got one of those 'Sigmar' figureheads from the AoS boat thingy lurking about somewhere if you fancy incorporating that into it...?

Looking good! Great woodgrain on that deck. Do you have more in-progress photos somewhere?
Is the main material wood, or XPS foam?
-
Needs a paddlewheel and at least a riverboat gambler.
-
Cheers all :)

If I make another, larger one I’ll give you a shout :D
Do you have more in-progress photos somewhere?

No wips I’m afraid and it’s mainly balsa wood.
Needs a paddlewheel and at least a riverboat gambler.
lol
no
-
Balsa - so very, very similar to my recent efforts. Looks great!
On a side note, for a future project: when you have a raised sterncastle, like on this ship, the tiller is almost invariably on the lower level, on the main deck level.
-
It's Orktober time! :D
I've got more on the 'to do' shelf but I don't think I'll get them done this month.
Say hello to Skunkbutt and his trusty driver Zoomfrag.

Jim what are you like! I had you down as a serious historical miniatures man and you come out with this. Just skimmed through the thread and it's brilliant. The ork vehicles are fantastic.
Have you ever thought of doing this for a living. ;)

I've got a big terrain board commission on and it seemed like a god time to add to my own so I'm going for a couple of coastal/wide river boards. The water covers about a third of the board and if I do a few they can be placed together to represent a wide river or left on their own for a coastal/lake shore.
Not enough room to set them up yet but one of the boards is going to be a simple harbour. It's primarily for Oldhammer of course but it could also be used for more historical settings (Dorset smugglers or Victorian Invasion England etc).
The wooden wharf is just a temp one for the photo but the real one will be loose so larger ships can moor against the quay if necessary.
Lentils for the groundwork that will have a roughed out edge blending into the same sort of ground cover as the rest of the boards.

Ah, the individually applied lentil cobblestones - that's true dedication lol
Why grey foam this time, James? Does it have different properties to the blue or green, or have Panel Systems just changed their dye?
-

I just can't help myself lol
Grey is the standard now from Panelsystems. They do have some blue left as old stock (or so I've been told) but it wasn't in the measurements I ordered.
No discernable difference in the quality, density etc. The only difference I can see is that the surface of the 10mm is a little bit 'rougher' than in the blue but not to make much of a problem.
-

I hops this will include a medieval style stone bridge build.
-
Of course; with houses on it lol
-
Small progress, the wooden wharf is done (still needs some ropes on it but they'll be done much later).
The quay still needs a bit of filling, the wooden piles at the sides and of course millions of lentils lol

Ah, okay, thank you :)
The rougher surface is no bad thing. Might provide a slightly better 'key' for groundwork texture and adhesives to get hold of.

Didn't quite finish these last year but the intention was there lol
The standard bearer is actually for a handgun unit and I still need to do a banner for the spears. It’s all getting a bit confusing as I’m just painting whatever I fancy without a thought of any oob lol

I’ll tot up what was done last year and list it in the first post :)

Lovely little contingent.

Those space orks are really well done. I was especially impressed with the tankette from around p. 19/20. where did you get it?
-
I do like those GW plastic spearman. Okay so they're a little bit limited in the poses, but they have a certain charm. They make rather decent looking swordsmen as well with a minimal amount of work. Nice painting.

Well, broadband has finally been installed after a couple of weeks waiting so I can now post some pictures without it costing an arm and a leg lol
Haven't really been able to do much for myself during the house move but I managed some bits here and there.
A new ork boys mob. Several converted guns for these plus a couple of heavier weapons.

Nice one mate! :-*
What do you use to paint them? Foundry colours? GW?
-
Great work Jim,and those plastics still hold up :-*
-
Thanks chaps :)
What do you use to paint them? Foundry colours? GW?
Er, for these the yellow was GW along with the metallics and the blacks/browns. Everything else was Foundry.
I'm slowly swapping over to mainly GW paints but there are some colours that aren't in their range (and I'm too lazy to search elsewhere or mix my own lol)

Very nice 8)

Great job on those. They're very versatile figures.

Been painting odd figures on and off when I get the chance and I think I’ve finished my skellies (at least for Dragon Rampant, I still fancy amassing enough for Warhammer lol).
The giant is a 3D print and the ghosts back right are LotR Army if the Dead from GW. Everything else is old school. The summoning pot is just a bit of fun but will no doubt stir up some trouble…
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/55/2619-070722143531-55801372.jpeg)
I’ve got another chariot and quite a few infantry to do before everything has been painted. I might look into getting some other plastics at some point (mainly for archers).
-
Bloody lovely, mate!
:-* :-*
-
Nice work James 8)
-
Great looking force. They are still the best plastic skeletons by far.
-
Excellent stuff!
-
Thanks chaps :)
They are still the best plastic skeletons by far.
I’m inclined to agree.
-
Very cool James. The giant skeleton is a nice "mini".
-
Lovely army :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
My brother used to have a skeleton army but they used to be missing more arms than was right :D
-
Cheers :)
Mine are all ok at the moment but I’m sure time will tell lol
I’ll take some shot of the individual units as the resolution on that isn’t great.
-
Thanks chaps :)
I’m inclined to agree.
I still have quite a lot of them sitting in boxes. Most are clipped off the sprues with only a few made-up and painted.
Also loved the skeleton range that was out around the same time.
-
Looking good👍
-
That cook pot is perfect for as the centerpiece for the Pot Boiler scenario. Well done.
-
Looking good.
-
Thanks again :)
Got a bit of a painting mojo going on at the moment and I managed to finish off some more figures.
The beastmen are new-ish GW plastics, the Goblins are from Ragnarok and the orcs etc are all ‘Oldhammer’.
I’m starting to go for more of an aesthetic old school feel as the prices on eBay are getting rather silly as opposed to just mildly silly ::)

Ver nice, mate!
:-* :-*
Good to see some Ragnorok painted up as I have been eyeing a few of their offerings lately....must resist!
;)
-
Looking good mate!
-
That’s a great collection of classic greenskins and the beast men and Ragnarok miniatures goblins look excellent, too! I definitely agree with Mason that the Ragnarok goblins are tempting- I backed their undead and not-Thorin and company kickstarters recently and they’re quite nice. It looks like the goblins are just as good!
-
Lovely work, and I still think those old stone troll sculpts have never been bettered.
-
Cheers fellas :)
I like all the Ragnarok figures, it’ll be interesting to see how he expands the ranges.
-
All look fantastic - but the Ragnarok goblins are very cool! :-*
-
There’s something about the Ragnarok goblins with the masks over their faces that just seems right. Reduces the sunlight straining their eyes, and might disguise that they’re goblins, maybe? Those sculpts seem sneakier than the others for some reason. Anyway, I like them.
-
Lovely figures!
-
Thanks :)
There’s something about the Ragnarok goblins with the masks over their faces that just seems right.
I got a pack of the 'baldies' as well so we'll see how they mix up.
-
I'm loving the ecclectic greenskin collection there; just put enough different looks together, and eventually, none will stand out (too much).
But those Ragnarok golbins are just wonderful sculpts. A more grown up/realistic version of Night Goblins I'd say.
By now, I have a substantial horde of Night Gobbos myself, and the Ragnarok ones do not mesh well with their aesthetic, but I'm seriously looking for a way to shoehorn them in somewhere.
Depending on their actual size, they might perhaps work as Misty Mountains goblins for my Middle Earth project (in a The Hobbit capacity)!
-
The Ragnarok ones are taller and less stooped than the GW type so I suppose a halfgoblin would be perfectly suitable.
I’ll take a shot next to some orcs etc later today.
-
Looking great.
-
Here’s the comparison photo (I don’t have any GW gobbos painted up yet) and you can see how tall they are.
-
Cheers for that James 8)
The older orks left and right of him are leaning towards proper 25mm I gather?
-
They’re both 24mm bottom of foot to top of head. The goblin is around 27mm but he (they) have very thick bases.
-
Lovely stuff 8)
-
Interesting, close to “man height” in Tolkien-style term, then.
-
Yes, pretty much.
Lovely stuff 8)
Cheers mate :)
-
Fantastic thread! I'd completely missed it, tucked away on Workbench as it is. Great stuff - and well worth catching up on all 30-odd pages!
-
Interesting, close to “man height” in Tolkien-style term, then.
My thoughts exactly. But maybe they could also fill in as half-orcs?
-
Fantastic thread! I'd completely missed it
Thanks :) Given that there’s 40k as well I thought it was better here.
But maybe they could also fill in as half-orcs?
I think they’d fit that as well.
-
Some lovely stuff there! Really like the old orcs and those goblins
-
Cheers mate :)
I've been working on a small, modular walled town for my Empire troops and the first three sections are complete. I just kept it fairly simple as I didn't want to get bogged down in details and have them sit on the shelf for god knows how long lol
I'll be doing more so there's enough for a 90 degree corner to sit on a terrain board plus a few extra straight walls to extend it if necessary.

That is wonderful! I think keeping it relatively simple in design was a great choice. I like that the stonework on the walls is covered, too.
-
Looks awesome. can't wait to see the rest of the town.
-
Superb work.
Might have to copy use that for inspiration.
NO practical use for a town wall, but who needs practicality!
-
That looks great!

Thanks chaps :)

That's closer to being finished than it was last year ;D

Fantabulous!

Lovely work there Jim :-*

That is brilliant mate! It's giving me some serious Gary Chalk Lone Wolf art vibes too - first thing I thought. :-* :-* :-*

Seriously good - looking forward to seeing it extended the full length of a table :)

I’ve finally finished off one of my favourite Oldhammer models, the Aly Morrison Marauder giant 8)
The barrel was missing when I bought him (second hand) so I sculpted a simple bag in its place.

Very imposing and convincing giant...
-
Lovely work, nice base too :-*
-
I'm really taken with that, it's superb. Greatl use of colour.
-
Very nice indeed, mate!
Lovely understated colours and you did a very tidy job on all that flesh.
:-* :-*
Nice work on the bag too.
Getting the bug yet?
8) ;)
I feel that there is a bit of an 'arms rac'e going on with you and Mama.
Who has the bigger beasty?
;D ;) lol
-
Great model. :-* :-*

To paraphrase Stalin, size has a quality all its own, though you’ve absolutely taken it to another level with the brushwork. Well done! 8)

He does but it’s brittle as old wood lol
I know who’s will survive in a stomping contest >:D
-
I always love me a Marauder Giant and you did this one justice. Nice job.
-
Thanks :)
-
Very Nice! Love the colours and the nose.
One of the miniatures I sold off a while ago and regretted. (also no barrel with it)
-
You'll almost always regret selling off old lead. I always loved this figure as a kid and it's great to see such a well painted one.
-
Fantastic work on a GREAT figure!
-
Brilliant work!
-
Cheers again fellas :)

I bet there's someone out there hoarding them lol
You'll almost always regret selling off old lead.
I'm glad I got him when I did, I couldn't afford him now ::)
-
Very nice. That Giant is in the top 5 of my favorite GW miniatures.
-
Now that is a PROPER giant. 8)
I really wish I'd got more of the Marauder range when it was around, some truly wonderful figures that got sadly overlooked due to Eavy Metal's "paint it red" period.
-
Very nice. That Giant is in the top 5 of my favorite GW miniatures.
There's an idea for a bit of fun, a "Your Top 5 GW Fantasy Miniatures" thread. As long as it didn't descend in to why X is a terrible figure, prices, etc, etc.

Yeah, though it could be a fun one for pre 2000 figures as we did with the painting club?
-
That would be a fun thread. Do it.

Lovely work on that wee guy

That's superb work on a classic miniature.
-
Thanks again :)
I’ve taken some photos of the ‘units’ I have so far. This is a very, very small portion of the actual Empire force that I have and I hope to finish them all before I retire lol
This isn’t everything as I can’t find the cannon and some of the great swords need a bit of tlc. There are also a few ‘loose’ figures that don’t fit into units yet as I need to paint more of the same.

Sharp looking troops mate!
-
Cracking force of old figures, beautifully painted. Shame they got smashed up by the fairies!
-
Brilliantly done 8)
-
Top job on those James 👍
-
Many thanks chaps :)
They can be a bit of a chore to do sometimes but generally they’re enjoyable.
-
Cracking job, and always good to see imperial ogres.
Also, the small round shields for the swordsmen seems to fit them really well.
-
Fantastic work! I love the converted Green Knight and the shield especially!
-
Cheers :)

They seem more practical to me for ‘renaissance’ sword fighting.
-
These are most excellent Jim. Very nostalgic! :-*
-
Kudos to you as these units are all well done. I don't have the patience anymore for units.
-
I love those troops there - some excellent conversion work on them.
-
That’s a super looking army
-
Thanks again :)
Some 40k next I think when I get a chance.
-
Late to the party, but let me join the chorus and say that this is a pretty awesome project. The collection of miniatures from different ranges really works well with a coherent paintjob.
I especially love the use of the Green Knight's horse here. And what is the black symbol on the blue and yellow flag? Is it a tower perhaps? Hard to see from the presented angle.
And can't wait to see what you'll be doing with some 40K minis :)
-
And what is the black symbol on the blue and yellow flag? Is it a tower perhaps? Hard to see from the presented angle.
Sorry mate, totally missed this. It's supposed to be a powder flask, the intention is to have an object representing the unit on the respective flags (I couldn't be bothered to paint crossed muskets lol )
I managed to finish off a languishing dread and a another unit for my Rogue Trader Imps. I'll probably do a command squad a la the 40k Compendium but I'll be using them for Xenos Rampant.
On the dread I added a new plastic las-cannon baffle to the front of the original metal one just to make it look a bit more convincing.

-
Sorry mate, totally missed this. It's supposed to be a powder flask, the intention is to have an object representing the unit on the respective flags (I couldn't be bothered to paint crossed muskets lol )...
Kind of forgot I even posed that question, but yeah; now that you explan it, I can actually see it :D
And heck yeah, another RT Dread! :-* Is the reddish brown a camouflage pattern, or is it more weathering?
Love the old-school grey scheme on all the units.
I now regret ever trading away that old egg-sentinel I had lying around for ages; yours looks ace next to the other units.
The Rhino is also really cool; straight from the painting suggestions leaflet that came in that old Rhine boxed set. I did my first one in the Tundra scheme on that very same sheet. That illustration was later also put in the Compendium I believe.
Proper RT stuff. And with Grimdark Future and Xenos Rampant, these forces can now actually be played again too! 8)
-
Brilliantly old school! The nostalgia runs deep. 👍

Great to see the classics!

The red on the dread is rust and dust weathering. Bit of a mix of both given the locale. I might try an RT style camo paint job for the next rhino but I kind of like the grey 8)

Ooooh, that's perfection! :-*
For me, this will always be the army that got away, so I always delight in seeing people getting theirs painted. Are you going to do a small unit for each of other unit types available to them - assault, support, beastmen, ogryn, rough riders, etc? Also, any plans to do any in the tiger stripe scheme or the Necromundan 8th (could be good for marking a unit as veterans too)?
On the dread I added a new plastic las-cannon baffle to the front of the original metal one just to make it look a bit more convincing.
It works well, without looking obvious. Same with the shoota on the Rhino. Nicely done! 8)
-
Cheers :)

At the moment I've got enough guard figures to do (I think) another six or so squads plus command squads but some of them have a quite a bit of paint on them so will need a soak before I can do anything. I've got an ogryn squad and I think enough Vincent bikes to do a squad. Plenty of tech (dreads, sentinals etc).
I'd like to do the tiger stripes but we'll see how it goes.
I really need to get them all out but it would take far too much time lol
-
Love that rhino
-
Tiger stripes would take them to the next level, for sure. 🏅
-
Proper Guard!
Woo-hoo!
:-* :-*
Six more squads???
:o :o
You are obviously much more patient than me, mate.
Having painted one IG army in third edition I could not face doing another for RT, just too many troops.
Good luck!
:)
-
Cheers :)

Most of them need a lot of clean up though so it's doubtful they'll get done any time soon lol

On the subject of veterans, you might consider doing some with bare arms and non-regulation haircuts, like these:
It might also save you a few of the original plastic arms too, as I know those are hard to come across these days! :)
I really need to get them all out but it would take far too much time lol
But, but... Think of your fans! :o lol
-
Inspiring stuff as always, James. 8)
I have a load of RT Guard to do for my Rogue Trader escort troops and I'm planning on going the same Compendium compliant paint scheme, so it's nice to have that visual confirmation that it still looks bloody ace.
-
[...] it's nice to have that visual confirmation that it still looks bloody ace.
The classics never go out of style! ;)
-
Apologies for the belated reply :?
On the subject of veterans, you might consider doing some with bare arms and non-regulation haircuts, like these:
That's not a bad shout, I'll have a look and see if there are any scaled arms that would fit as the Catachan arms are far too big.

I've painted a few high elves over the past couple of months as I'm fed up of my skellies getting whupped in FFoL lol
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/58/2619-180523071856-589062287.jpeg)
I'd like to do more for a DR force but the amount of conversion work needed to stop them looking all alike is putting me off a bit :?
-
So pretty :D
-
They look great, is it a mix of the plastics and metals?
I've painted a few high elves over the past couple of months as I'm fed up of my skellies getting whupped in FFoL

-
Beautiful work on those elves! I like the classic high elf figures and your look great.
-
Love the elves!
-
Thanks chaps :)
They look great, is it a mix of the plastics and metals?
it is, yes. Plastic, plastic, metal, metal, plastic, plastic and metal, metal. The second and sixth figures (from the left) are converted plastics.
So is the plan for the elves to get whupped now? ;)
Probably lol
-
Nice job on those. For DR massed ranks of orderly elves is probably fine, no? They're not scruffy goblinoids or unruly humans after all.
-
True but for the smaller units of DR I don’t think it would look quite right? I think I could probably get away with a head move/swap and a weapon position change (or something like that).
-
Just found this thread. A beautiful collection of minis and terrain sir. I particularly like your Imp. Guard.
-
Nice work, mate.
I especially like the nice, clean whites and the detail on the woodwork.
