Dream Table
« on: February 16, 2012, 02:12:29 PM »
OK guys, I have a few projects I am thinking of starting, but first I would love to know what your dream board would be.....size would be no problem although lets say a Max of 12x6ft and smallest 4x2ft. The rest is down to your imaginations.

It all depends on what it's use is for.

A 12x6ft board is no good for a small evenings skirmish session whilst a 4x4ft board is poo for large games.

I would have to go with looks and functionality over size (god I sound like some crap contestant on a dating show!)

If practicality isn't an issue then I would have to go with France as it get's good ratings from those who have used it before :D

im currently working on a 14' x 6' board but plan to add some extension pieces to make it a little bigger   20' x 8'.     Obviously I couldn't use the thing full size but it means I can use different bits of the board.   I can fit a 14'x 6'  in my cave.

Yup it's three garage bays :)

But it's almost too big to be practical but I do like the epic feel.

When I had a basement my table was 9' x 5' made with shelves and drawers underneath and mounted on castors so it could ne moved around. I also added 30" hinged section at each end to extend it to 14' long, good enough for most 28mm games.
Wargamers do it on a table.

My dream is to one day do a 3'x3' table where the frame is a sculpture of a head. Ideally there would be a 'lid' that you could take of the head and the board would be in the brain cavity of the skull.

I think it would be easily doable with paper maché but probably a hell to transport. I once contemplated a version where the head was submersed in water (modelled of course) only the nose and up sticking out of it.

For 'all purpose' gaming I would like a standard 12' by 6' table with desert-ish themes kind of like the one Frank did for Sudan Colonial stuff. I base all my minis the same way so it would be painted like that and have  2'x4' elements.

Greetings

let's see  ... a dream table.

that would be a table custom made where we can interchange board tiles, ex. 30cm*30cm for a total of 1,80*1,20 which would be 6*4 tiles. A lot of customization possible.
The ideal table would be something like this: http://www.smeissl.at/html/page_32_2.html or like this: http://www.spieltrieb-frankfurt.de/die-raeumlichkeiten/. A table where you can play *above* and the underside of the table might be usable for storage of said tiles.

For me I would probably go with a 4x8 or a 6x12 table, flat surface. For the terrain I would use a combination of WWG Cardstock Models, O Scale Model Railroad Buildings/scenery, and scratch built. Since I play All Things Zombie by Two Hour Wargames, I would primarily be playing City/Suburban setting so the WWG Urban Mayhem or the Mayhem TLX ground tiles would be used. If I did a rural setting them I would probably use the WWG Hinterland TLX set with the WWG, Model railroad and Scratch built buildings for the farm houses and or the small town street (the road would be the Mayhem street tiles possibly kitbashed where needed).

With a 8x4 or a 12x6 table I could do a large city layout or large rural layout if I wanted or even only use half the table for a smaller layout while the unused half is where I have room to roll the dice, keep extra minis, etc... Or I could easily take the 12x6 and use 3 or 4 feet on one end (given me an area of 6x3 or 6x4) as a work space for painting, building etc... while the rest (an area of 8x6 or 9x6) of the table can be used as the actual playing surface.

As it is I have been thinking of getting a regulation sized ping pong (table tennis) table for use as a gaming table. Which I believe is a 9x5 area.
