Lovely new horses aren't the only thing to get excited about in this set, but they are a good reason!  A full review of the set here :   https://antonswargame.blogspot.com/2024/04/wargames-atlantic-28mm-afghan-cavalry.html (https://antonswargame.blogspot.com/2024/04/wargames-atlantic-28mm-afghan-cavalry.html)

I would be right properly chuffed if they would release these horses as a stand-alone set!

Not quite the same but they do already produce a box of standalone horses.

Those four bits near the top center: I never knew they made 'athletic cups' for horses!!!    lol

I tried using xfJOCKfx in front of strap but it kept getting changed to Scot.  Very weird.  drop the xf.fx

You need to remember that cricket is the nearest thing to a national sport in Afghanistan. I prefer to think you are right as opposed to the competing theory that that many horses have suffered a masectomy procedure.

The horses are nice sculpts, the box of just horses that they do are different sculpts, significantly fatter than these ones.

The Sprue Shop (online trader) sell single sprues, if you're lucky you might be able to get just the horses?

Looks interesting and thanks to Anton for the thorough review.

Having had a good look at the frames I am not entirely convinced but this could have potential. A few questions/comments (in no real order):

1 Why is the Afghan riders frame dated 2021 and the horses 2023....what happened to this project?

2 Not at all convinced about the approach to the reins. I have noticed on 3D WA that they do these funky looking reins that don't resemble/recreate real horse reins very well.

3 The horses look pretty good....but are they really looking like steppe ponies like those used in Afghanistan...these ones look a bit on the large size.

4 On the Afghan riders, the weapons selection is strange, with only 2 tulwar swords out, a few jezails (this box is suppose to cover up to 1914 yet no guns to represent that), the dahl (shield) is not a traditional Afghan one.....and overall, why such a limited selection?

5 Heads....okay, this is where the real problems are...you have one bearded head that looks like a sea captain with a hat (think Capt Haddock from TinTin)....another one with a face wrap that looks like he is a 1980s skier....

Overall, good and bad....but WA continues to under perform from that they could do. I have supported the 3D WA tribes platform since its inception and some sets are good and some awful (3D designer needs to learn how to sculpt!)....but in general, still not taking advantage of everything that 3D design and printing offers.

Just my thoughts...yours may differ...and that's perfectly okay.

Considering the conversion possibilities I am surprised that WA didn’t produce a few arms with Lee Enfields or Kalashnikovs.

I bought the slightly undersized Perry desert rats and used the weapons from there for my 192? NWF project.

JArgo, great idea using the Enfields for the Desert Rats! It would seem like the missing weapons and arms should be sold, produced, designed, fabricated by someone as the 3rd Afghan War isn’t the only kit bash / custom project that could use these weapons, especially with all
The plastic and resign products on the market and files available for print.

Enfields are one thing, there's probably not a huge difference in dress for late 19thC and early-mid 20th C Afghan tribespeople but by the late 20th C and 21st C the dress changes and the need for accoutrements and equipment to match would probably require new figures.
