Thanks for all the ideas guys! My ideas have crystallized a bit. The hotel and the low-life's residence I have decided should be more properly outside the spaceport perimeter. I have also combined the main spaceport building, and the control tower into one entity.  I am looking at the moment at an octagonal piece by Sarrissa, (with  2 extra floors and adaptions)

https://www.sarissa-precision.com/Centre_Point/p1603368_13107121.aspx

The ground floor of this is open, so will have lots of space for vendors and other amusements that some of you have mentioned.

This will have landing pads (for the smaller space ships) attached on the outside, at different levels and connected by ramps and moving walkways into the building, which will be adapted from 10mm scale roads and flyovers by Blotz .

The whole thing with the landing pads will be about 2.5 feet across, which will be a compromise between features I want to include and keeping it small as possible but the central building has a footprint only half that.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

I like the Knights of Dice stuff but they didn't have the established, settled look that I wanted. They look more like a colony in the early stages of being set up. It's a great range though.

I  have feasted my eyes a few times on your galleries, Richard! I started collecting my spaceships and thinking about this project as a result of your WIP thread. Although my planetary spaceport will of necessity have to be more compact and subordinate to the needs of gaming.
