Marvelloso, Teniente Hazel! I really need to take a spanish course next semester to make the most of it!
-
Nice crisp job!
What sorta glue did you use on the 'foam' for the church?
Details are really cool.
Thanks and good going on completions.
-
Thanks!
Sendak, I use a hot-glue gun. But take care, if the glue is too hot it melts the foam away o_o
-
Great progress - can't wait to see the finished set
-
Thanks Lt. Hazel. Tha helps a bunch.
I used Gorilla glue with wooden skewers / bamboo toothpicks.
I like your direct approach.

:o :o :o :o :o :ook now i need a tutorial of some kind and i second arcticmans question: what is the ornage stuff you used to create the doors and windows on the church. TUTORIAL. (and templates :D ;))
-
The orange stuff is air-drying-clay. Very cheap and works fine. I used this tutorial http://www.croebern-1813.de/40235.html . It´s in german, but if you scroll down you see the steps. You need cardboard (paper or plastic) or styrodur to build the basic structure. Then cover it with double-sided tape. Roll the clay flat and press it on the basic structure. Cut out doors and windows and modell some "extras" like fragile finery. For the doors and other woodwork I use woodsticks from McD.
Glue the house on a plastic-card base.
-
Love the way that clay cracks up :o 8)
-
Love the way that clay cracks up :o 8)
Me too ;)
-
Nice job! I've tried doing similar stuff with clay (packed earth floors out of DAS Pronto to be precise) but found it too hard to work with. It took a bit too much force to press as flat as I wanted it (which risked making the underlying material buckle) and once it had dried, I found it had shrunk enough to need retouching around the edges. That crackling effect is very cool though. I might just reconsider this modelling material again.

Makes me smile everytime I look at it (don´t know why ::) )

Very interesting stuff. Might have to implement something similar for some hovels later on.

Absolutely swell. I hope to get my hazienda/monastery done until the meeting.

Good man :)
Will look forward to seeing them next week :P
-
Very, very nice. :)
It has a great, aged, lived in look to it. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole village together too.
-
Noting says Spanish village as well as a windmill. Well, maybe a bodega filled wall to wall with retired Leeds middle managers and their wives, but that wouldn't have that same 1930ies feel to it.
-
So great! :o
-
Superb piece, although "The Naked Windmill" somehow sounds like a Dutch entertainment facility of dubious repute. lol

Today I´ll buy some styrodur-boards and build a table over the weekend.
Is styrodur the name of the insulation foam (pink or blue) that can be bought in any country but Denmark...?
-

Yes. It´s an XPS polystyrene foam commonly called like that here in Germany (probably a brand name like "Styropor" for EPS).
Too bad you cannot build games tables out of beautiful women and excellent language skills, eh? ;)

Frustrating, actually.... It took me several months to track down foam board (have to drive 100 km to get it), washers are not available in less than 30 mm, game shops only carry GW, Privateer, various RPGs, and LARP-equipment, and that insulation foam that is useable for terrain is not legal...
Oh, and yes, pet shops do not sell plastic aquarium plants, and their supply of aquarium deco is very limited.
Sorry 'bout the ranting - does anyone know of job opportunities in Britain or Germany (our plant here in Svendborg is being closed, and we have all been sacked.. I have 4 months notice)? ::)
-
very impressive and inspiring! :o o_o

I've had trouble finding plastic aquarium plants in uk shops relly not good.
I'm really sorry to here about your job :( hope you can find another within your 4 months notice. The world is going to hell...

Oh very cool.Looking forward to see the water. "Vorallem die Bierflasche da hinten :D"
-
Can't wait to see how the river turns out :). I concur, a village shot would be awesome.
Oh and Argonor and dodge, maybe some Canadian pet sites could help. I've easily found more variety in plastic plants right in town then I'd ever need in more than one life. Dried plant pods(and other parts of flowers and such) work great for flora as well. Sorry to hear about your job :(. Good luck with finding a future job, my friend.

Awful news. Hope you find something you like soon.

I really like what you did with that almost dry riverbed.

Very cool gamingtable!
-
can i just say thanks to this fabulous project as it has well and truly kicked my lazy but into gear and made me start my own town. in some senses "DAMN YOU" hahaha, as it means more terrain i will never use, but the pleasure i get from seeing my own finished work is amazing, thankyou.
p.s loving the board, cant wait to see it all together with the buildings on,.

My Table. Trees, Sandbags and some other stuff isn´t mine, but I will definately buy some for me ;D

Do you have WIP pictures of actually applying the clay to the double-sided tape? I find the technique most intriguing!
-
i have now used this technique and can say it isn't as easy as it sounds, you have to first apply the double sided tape (which is an absolute ass of a task) then you have to rip of small bits of clay and lay it on the tape, pushing it around to cover the area, before adding any brick work + stippling with a scouring pad to create a weathered affect.
here are some pictures. (excuse the fingerprints they practically disappear once painted anyhow)
-
Your house looks great man!
The technique isn´t that simple, but it will be easier with some experience. Cut bigger pieces of clay, and roll them flat with a round woodstick. While pressing the clay on the tape keep your fingers wet. And I now have a kind of foamcard called "KAPPA fix" which already has tape on both sides.
By the way: In my experience the best things in life are not easy to get, but cheap ;)

Yes nice trees. I am looking for some cypresses myself and I have not yet found any decent ones. These look nice, what are their make???
[Only the colour is rather light for cypresses. In my country cypress colour is much more dark]

They are darker in real life, but I know cypress-trees are very dark green in Greece..I think the spanish ones are lighter lol

Look forward to seeing the progress

I had a picture of my olive grove in mind cause I spent my holidays in Corsica a few years ago and my tent was right under an olive-tree. Nice Island that Corsica is. But I googled pics of olive-trees.

will I see the stuff at the next game ?

You will.

I just discovered this thread today. It's threads like this that make LAF the best geeking forum out there. I am so impressed that I don't know if I should go and paint until 2:00 am or collapse in bed, hopeless in my relative geek activity.
Great work. I aspire to such accomplishments o_o
-
Did you use beach sand for the walls? I find it a most useful material for texturing (also the stuff you used, if it's not it ;) ).

Check the WW2 section. Just updated my "No Pasarán" thread (after more than a year, good Lord!) with pics, but I remain overawed by the sheer spectacle of your terrain-building prowess.

Indeed...
The windmill is glorious!

Awesome!
Hopefully there will be a free chair at the Tactica for your SCW T&T game.
I like the terrain very much and the tutorials look perfect.
The SCW is coming closer for me. Everybody is trying to tempt me.
