Miner episode
« on: March 09, 2024, 10:47:08 AM »
Another outing of our Western Campaign, 'Dardenell County'

South of Tanglefoot & East of Mal Passo lies the Crazy 'J' Ranch.
Owner MISTER! Adam Barlow is THE local power. He owns most
of the town of Tanglefoot & when he says, 'Jump!' the townsfolk
answer, 'How high Mister Barlow?'

It has come to his attention that Miners are squatting on his land,
where the Coonskin Rapids come tumbling out of the War Bonnet Hills.
He wants them moved off, peaceable or not, but moved off.
The Marshal (J D Ward) knows which side his bread is buttered &
has turned up to ensure everything is 'legal'.
Jeff Longstreet, the Crazy 'J's top hand is also there to back
Mr Barlow's play.

106 = Mr Adam Barlow
089 = Jeff Longstreet
090 = Marshal J D Ward

The Tanglefoot Town Citizens' Committee also know who is the boss,
so four prominent members have turned out, to show 'Willing'. ;)

Our Roving photographer, D McFarlane managed to capture their images. However...
each one was talking to a different Miner  ??? ??? ???
Is there any truth to the rumours that GOLD has been found in the War Bonnet Hills?

094 = Arthur L Monahahn (Right) with Miner Zeek Tonson.
102 = Miles Ballent (Right) with Miner Son Lowe.
104 = Tom Ducket (Right) with Miner Johnny Reb.
105 = Christian Miller (Left) with Miner Alan Leatham.

I have no idea why the last picture is sideways on. It isn't on the actual picture.
I have tried to 'fix' it three times & have now given up. ;D

To add to the chaos (ideal in a gunfight :D) the notorious Fratton Gang
are known to be in the area.
Various towns have papers on them & seeing the Marshal, & what looks
 like a Posse following, they are definitely edgy. >:D

Are they here because of the rumours of Gold???

091 = Marlon Pack & Michael Morrison.
092 = Connor Ogilvie & Dane Scarlett.
093 = Clark Robertson & Josh Griffiths.

Just as, 'No plan survives contact with the Enemy'
'Absolutely no plot survives contact with a group of Wargamers'  lol lol lol
Suffice it to say the game did NOT go anythink like I thought it would.
(14, yes Fourteen miner figures that I thought would dominate the game...didn't :o
But it didn't matter as FUN was had. :D

I will leave it to the players to provide their versions of what happened & action
pictures, as I didn't remember to take any. :o

To name the guilty:-
Westbury (Ian) Played Adam Barlow,& Zingara (Gregor)was the Citizens' Committee.
Flatpack (BoB) with John were the Fratton Gang.

This game was part one of our 'Regulars' games and, due to a visit,
a chance to play games with my friend Zingara (Gregor).
Fortnightly on a Thursday is our usual 'Regulars' gaming.
After the other lads left Gregor & I played:-
Two ACW (Rebels & Patriots) games,
Six DBA games (Alexander V Porus),
Two AK47 Games and
Six games of Chess. :o :o :o
NB this was Thursday afternoon and Friday.  :D
Not many pictures, Gregor won too many of the games, and the DBA was played
using cut out bases only, plus the Chess is not that photogenic. lol

Miner episode from the Fratton gang’s point of view.

The Fratton gang decided these miners were helping themselves to Mr Barlow’s gold.
We decided we should help Mr Barlow recover it.
Maybe we would pass it on to Mr Barlow, or maybe we wouldn’t  lol

We split the gang into two groups, in order to enter the miners camp on a couple of flanks.

Mr Barlow and a couple of lawmen, arrived at the miners village, just before us, so we decided to follow them into camp.
They were not expecting our company.

They then had the cheek to ask what we were doing there ? And to draw their guns on us.

Well this infuriated my boys, as we were only trying to help  :o
One of my boys fell straight away.
We were not happy at all.

A gunfight developed as good old Mr Barlow tried to shy away.

Oh yes, Mr Barlow was on the run.

In fact after that brief glimpse, he was never seen again.
Must have escaped back to his ranch house.

Now the local town militia turned up, just to spoil things for us.

It’s at this stage, a couple of miners entered the town with their gold strapped to their mules.
Luckily enough, the other half of our gang was having an easy time on the other side of the stream, so they were able to nab to gold off the miners.
Winner, winner, southern fried chicken dinner  lol

My boys stayed until they all fell.
We tried a little hand to hand with the militia, but that didn’t work.

Darn it !

So we got away with the gold, but my half of the gang were very unlikely to see their rewards.

Great game, played, yet again in the right spirit.
Lots of fun, lots of dice rolling, and wall to wall laughter  lol lol lol
Thanks to Pete for organizing and running the game.

Thanks for hosting the occasion Peter. Bob certainly played an aggressive gambit. Ian started in top form taking out one gang member and causing another to cower looking for cover, but after the boss beat a hasty withdrawal to another appointment did not seem to be able to score more than 2 and allowed the varmits to take out his lawmen. My pensioners limping across the town could not get there in time - but that walking stick came in handy in giving a handy thwack across the head on that upstart that should have respected his elders more.

Enjoyed those good looking Rebels and Patriots games as well - but my those recently recruited southerners were brittle :-).

DBA was an interesting challenge and AK47 on a knifeedge as usual - many thanks for your hospitality and great to see the - was going to say lads again - but OAPs now :-).

I don't think I've every played in a game where I was out by the end of turn 2 but had such a laugh  lol
Particularly amusing was my boss man running away at the first shot and Bob's gunman being beaten to death by the cripple from the town safety committee  lol lol
Anyway, here are my shots, no commentary required.

If there is laughter and fun, y'all are doing it right!

I'd love to have the full and complete run down on the buildings in your town, please.  (Or whoever it belongs to.). Very different looking but very effective - a mining camp about to break out into being an actual town.

See my workbench pages, link below. They are a mixture of resin (from so far back I don't remember the manufacturer)
and scratch built (not by me) to which I have done a fair amount recently of repair & rebasing work.

Going to have to spend more time at that link - curious stuff.  Though low on information on the buildings but it is what it is.

I have to disagree with you, strongly, on one point: I hope you find a couple of more boxes of stuff to enhance the town!

You're welcome.  ;) lol

Well, that report was interesting.   Sice Mr. Barlow ran off, does he even know his gold was "recovered"?

Technically the gold was stolen from the Miners.  :D
So far the Fratton gang don't seem to have handed any of it back. ;)
