This year I've decided to switch focus (from the Imperial Guard I've been working on the last couple years) and finish up some of the Eldar I've been collecting up over the years with a sight on completing a full "Brigade" Detachment of Asuryani (Craftworld Eldar) and a "Battalion" detachment of Harlequins (and possibly a few Drukhari).
To get things kick-started I'm hoping to complete a 1000 point battalion of Asuryani for a small tournament coming up in mid-April - just five weeks away!
The first unit I've finished off is a squad of Rangers

Old metal Ranger minis from Games Workshop.

Rather than more terrestrial colours four their camouflage cloaks I decided to go with something a bit more alien.
More about the Eldar force on my Blog:

Shiny...and very special. Never seen such a paint scheme on these models.
-
Love them.. :-*
They bring joy to plain 40k
-
Love the camo scheme strangely reminds me of avatar movie 👍
-
I'm liking that camo scheme too.
-
Thank you all for your kind words!
Here is the second squad of Rangers:

I decided to do the reverse of the camouflage cloak with these to make is clear who is in which squad. Also, for Kill Team, I could just take Rangers from separate squads to easily identify who is who.

I do have a third squad I'll be painting at some point - but it won't be for a little while as I have other things I need to finish up for the tournament I'm getting these ready for - just five weeks away!
Here is the entire force of Aeldari, so far:

The Dire Avengers and Guardians I painted just over a year ago to use as a Kill Team in Shadow War: Armageddon. I won't be using the Guardians in the upcoming tournament. The rest of that force will be made up of a Farseer and a couple of Warlocks, some Aspect Warriors, and a couple of Wraith Lords - all older metal models.
Not sure which will be next. Perhaps the Farseer and Warlocks...?
-
WOW
Second batch is even better!
-
I agree - with alien terrain it'll really set the mood. (And I'm also looking forward to seeing the Wraith Knight.)
-
Normally I would dislike the paint scheme, but with the corresponding terrain the back it all fits VERY well, so CUDOS to you!
-
Nice paintwork. If I'm honest, I'd rather see pics of them without terrain or the mat (hard to really make them out). I know they're Rangers, but I'd rather actually see the minis!
-
Thank you.
Here are the latest...

Awesome, and much easier to see them! I approve of your choice of purple (has a massive purple Eldar army)
-
That has always been my favourite Farseer mini 8)
And with your alien terrain, the camo on those rangers actually is extremely effective! Kudos...
-
Just be careful. I hid some Eldar scouts in a ruin back in 2004-2005...and they blended in so well I forgot about them all game until we were cleaning up. Cowards!

Ha! Oh dear! That's part of the reason I like to make bright "alien" camouflage - so they stand out. Of course going and painting then the same bright colours I used on my Deathworld Forest terrain may not have been the best of plans!

and they just keep rolling off the workbench....

Not super happy with their faces... but they're done and I'm moving on...
-
Some nice updates.

A few more rolling off the workbench - just in time to try out the new force this evening!

Wraithlords
Hopefully I'll have some pics of these guys in action this evening.

I'm really enjoying this little 'blog' :) .
The scouts are brilliant and the old-school dreads are fantastic... I'm looking forward to everything that turns up now :) .
-
Loving the old school vibe and paint scheme on the dreadnoughts.
-
Thanks Guys!
I got in a short, quick game with this force earlier this week - here are a few shots of the action...

After that last game I made some small teaks to the force I'm planning to use for the small tournament next weekend. This past weekend I finished up a few more forces for the Warhost. I still need to paint six Howling Banshees before Sunday...

New Additions: Two more Warp Spiders (to make a full squad of ten), a second squad of Dire Avengers, and a third Wraithlord.

I now have my 1000-point tournament force ready for Sunday!
-
Well done - they are pretty cool.
-
I love this thread, it has inspired me to break out some old minis and get some painting done.
-
Tim I really love your painting style - do you just use 2 colours and a lot of blackening? Looks so good.

Thanks, I generally undercoat with black then block paint areas leaving black between to give some sharp shading. With these Eldar I've done some edge highlighting in a lighter colour. a few places (skin, hair, flowing drapery, etc) I will paint a darker colour over the black and highlight with a lighter colour. It's simple and fast and good enough for the tabletop.
I very rarely use washes - though I've been experimenting with them a bit more recently.

Another Team Tournament coming up in June has got me motivated to paint up a few more units. Like the Battleforce Recon tournament I played last month, this one is also 1000 point per player, but there are very specific detachments that are allowed, so I can't field the same Battalion I did for the previous one.
In the last week I've finished up the following...
Five more Asuryani Rangers...

To finish off a unit of ten (though I'll only be using 9 for the tournament)
A unit of six Wraithguard...

...and two batches of five Dire Avengers...

Thanks! It’s a lot like my 15mm painting style - i really like it the results you get.
