6mm fighters/bombers?
« on: October 06, 2010, 09:36:32 PM »
Heya guys, as some of you might have guessed from my copious amount of posts about it I am starting a double use project in 6mm and since I am completely new to the scale I tend to try and verify everything here.  lol

Anyhow, I have tried some searches but I cant seem to find any seller of 6mm fighters and or bomers for sci-fi, besides the obvious GW epic that is.

I considered using spacecraft from other ranges but I feel am missing something, there must be something out there?

Also, my first batch of infantry is bound to come in any day and I am likely to post some results of them once their done.

Try looking at the list in this thread on Tactical Command.

It lists a large number of 6mm Sci-Fi manufacturers, complete with links. (It's a super board for 6mm Sci-Fi and Epic 40k BTW).

Have you visited GZG's catalogue? IIRC Dirtside's range has fighters and gunships (at least, the Kra'Vak do).
What system will you be playing? See you're in Holland (where else would you be at -3 meter :D). If you fancy a game sometime, let me know. I have a FWC Martians force and a GZG NSL force.

Thanks major, that looks like a lot of help!

Malebolgia, I plan to use dirtside II, that is to say I plan to build a force or two usable with the system, tough I am not sure I will ever get to play it, I do know a few guys who would like this. Ofcourse if you want to convice me some other game is superior you are free to try.  :D

I have looked at GZG's catalogue, and couldn't find any earospace craft there, a few VTOLs, to be honest the products that do have pictures don't really make me confident to order any of the ones that don't.

Indeed I am in the Netherlands, Brabant to be specific, in between Denbosch and Eindhoven. (actually not below sea level, but couldn't resist) I would love a game some time, tough it will take a while for me to muster a force I fear.

I dont like the GZG flyers tbh - some of those on the EM4 plastic sprue are fine though.

Some of the Reaper CAV flyers are excellent, but you'll spend half of forever trying to find an actual size reference for them to try to work out what goes with what in scale terms.  :(

Yes the scale on the EM4 fighters seems to be very elastic, some would be fine as fighters for 6mm.

Darn it, I decided not to get them and now you guys are telling me they work? I'll make sure to order a pack of them when I get the mech's then!
Should I get my hands on a camera around then I'll make sure to post the results.

Well, if you want to know about relative sizes, just ask about the specific models you want to know about in Tac Comm. Alternatively, I happen to know that a lot of folks collect and play all sorts of 6mm stuff on the Specialist Military Publishing Forum, so you could try asking there as well. Most folks who have the models will be happy to snap a few pix or give you some dimensions.

Rules-wise, it depends on what you're looking for really. The folks on Tac Comms play lots of large-scale games besides Epic and would be able to recommend systems based on what you're after.

Otherwise, you could check out Future War Commander, which is loosely based on the Warmaster rules mechanics and is super flexible - most manufacturers' armies are represented (even GW, but with different names*), and there are tools for making your own units and lists too. There is even a skirmish-scale section in the back of the book to allow you to use the ruleset for 15-30mm wargaming. Some battle reports are up on their website too so you can get a bit of a feel for how the game flows.

*The author notes on their website:
Please note that due to copyright and trademark issues, the names of all Games Workshop races and units have been renamed in the book. Some common sense will be required when figuring out what is what!
There is a 'translation' of what units would correspond to which models here.

I will check it out for sure!

The reason I like Dirtside is because on one hand it reminds me a bit of mekton zeta for some reason, on the other I really like how it sets up a simple supply line system with its artillery and casevac units. I have no idea if it actually works in the game, but it looks nice to me.
