A very useful guide. I've made some of my own decals a few years ago, and its well worth the bit of effort to get started.
It worth re-iterating that the gloss varnish step is really important (for any decals) as this smooths the surface and stops tiny air bubbles forming under the decal, this can lead to the silvery look of sometimes seen with decals.
For very small decals, rather than using a pot of water, I sometimes just put the decal on my cutting board, and add a drop of water on top of the decal. Stops it floating away.
