Never Mind the Ruckus to be published!
« on: April 17, 2023, 09:18:58 AM »
We had a very successful meeting with Wargames Illustrated last week and they have agreed to publish my skirmish version of Never Mind the Billhooks! Hooray! It will initially appear as freebie in the magazine some time next year and as book if there is a good reception.
If anyone would like to get involved with playtesting please come find my Face book group

I have a bad case of prescient nostalgia. The future's not what it used to be.

This is great news, but I can't hear the word "Ruckus" without hearing The Wu Tang Clan.

Not sure how that's going to colour my medieval battles...  lol

Excellent!  I very much look forward to it.

Will there be a campaign system so skirmish bands we create can grow (if successful) into Never Mind the Billhooks-sized forces?  I always thought GW missed a beat by never having a bridge between Mordheim and Warhammer.

Kinda. At the moment it is a basic game still developing. The campaign system will allow characters to develop but will be fairly basic allowing characters to gain new skills and attributes through the course of a campaign.
The idea is that although a separate game for very small skirmishes, Ruckus should be completely compatible with its Bigger Billhooks Brother and could even form a “game within a game.” Like Billhooks, the game uses a deck of cards to create Random Activation and Events and the old d6 to resolve shooting attacks, melee and Will-to-Fight rolls. The game can be played as a “one off” or as a campaign with character development where characters gain new skills and attributes.
The game is scenario driven and prioritise having fun over simulating warfare or seeking historical accuracy.
When I first thought of it, the idea was to do a map campaign set in my local area and use these rules for the smaller skirmishes, however plans change on contact with the enemy...
Now... we are developing a full set of a dozen scenarios, next we will look at creating retinues for the other theatres in Billhooks Deluxe and then we will expand the periods to make the game period agnostic covering Dark Ages through to Renaissance.

Sounds interesting!  Thanks for the response.  Just ordered a copy of NMtB (retirement being just around the corner).

Very well done and best of luck.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
