Old Metall oxidized and primer?

I need some help.

Bought some goodies from 1990 and earlier. The Metall has oxidized to a dark ‚gun metal‘.
Would you prime this directly or scrub clean with some soft steel wool, wd40 and soup?

Has anybody some experience?

As long as it’s not rot (which looks like snowy crystals on a battery terminal) i haven’t had any problem with dark metal.  You have to prime in any case and the oxidized metal is sticked too as well as the un-oxidized.

Agreed. Unless the metal’s rough, prime it and paint it.

In my personal experience, I've found "chicken noodle" works best.
