Not sure at this point. I might use the grout method from RP Archive to fill the gaps. Will do a small test piece in the near future.

Would this be a good time to remark that the vast majority of villages and towns up to the 19th century, and often beyond, mostly had packed earth roads and streets?

Sshhh. This is a fantasy city with both canals and a working sewer system
