The Frost Expedition (update: Tex and mysterious remains)
« on: April 27, 2013, 11:23:04 PM »
Commander Aubrey Frost is a man's man if there ever was one. He joined a sailing ship when he was 14 years old and, by the time he was 25 years-old, was Captain of the "Auk," a whaling vessel out of Boston. For twenty-five years he has sailed the globe and, in recent years, has been commissioned by the American government to lead expeditions north of the Arctic Circle. He is now acting on his own behalf, searching for his lost friend Edmund Derby and his missing expedition to the North Pole. As Frost and his companions are about to find out, there is far more to the arctic expanse than what appears on conventional maps.

This is the first model I've finished for my Arctic-themed Pulp Alley game. Some of you my have seen Tenz's Snow Beasts league. They will be the primary opponent of the Frost Expedition. For Pulp Alley players, Commander Frost will be my leader and I've given him Athletic, Agile, and Hardboiled. These may (or may not) change after the first few games.

The terrain is the photo is my newly-completed Arctic terrain. It's very simple (as you can tell) because, this time around, I decided to favor portability over aesthetics in a terrain set. I really want to be able to play Pulp Alley where ever my geek outings take me.

Oh, the dingus in front of him is the Power Coil, one of the themed Plot Points I've made for the table. I'll reveal more characters and terrain as models get painted.

Nice work!
 :-*

I like the 'simple' arctic terrain idea.
Perfectly practical.

As simple as the terrain is, it appears very effective.

Nice mini, and nice scenery Jet.

Thanks for sharing.

It is from GW WH40K starter set, something like 3 editions ago, Battle for Macragge, iirc.

Hope that helps.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Awesome looking model, I love that Copplestone pack.

Post some more stuff on your blog!  I really miss reading your posts.   :'(

Oh, and go with the Copplestone Yeti, they're way better than the West Wind ones....    :D

Very nice. I've been thinking along these lines for a while.
Just have to get every thing else out of the way then...

Cheers,

Thanks gentlemen. I actually chose an arctic theme because I thought it could look quite convincing as a simple terrain set. Also, there's no need for lots of buildings and forests, two of the more bulkier terrain types in my opinion.

As was pointed out, the Plot Point is indeed a part from GW's "Battle of Macragge" 40k boxed set from some years back. I've actually pilfered another couple of items from that set for Plot Points as well. I might actually paint up some of the ruined spacecraft terrain pieces to match my arctic table.

I love the Copplestone Yetis as well but, my primary opponent has those models in his league already so I will probably go with the Westwind ones just for variety, You can see his league here: http://basementmotive.blogspot.ca/2013/04/pulp-alley-shivas-chosen-keepers-of.html

Anyway, I've started painting the second of two Sidekicks so I'll throw up another photo of a model and a Plot point over the next couple of days. I also plan on making some more terrain pieces, probably some cracked ice with exposed water.

Ahhh!
40K scenery, so thats where I recognised it from.
It has been some time since I thought something from that range would prove useful to me.
 ;)

Great stuff, Jet, looking forward to more.
 :D

Your opponents Chosen look bloody great too.
It should make for some lovely pics when you post an AAR... ;)

It's nothing, sir. Just a burn from a ray gun.
