Title: Battle Front's rual roads usable for 28mm?
Post by: Necroplayer on December 29, 2016, 05:00:34 PM
Has anyone used Battle front's rural roads in their Bolt Action games? I know they are sold for predominately 15mm games but their description says there good for any scale. Does anyone have any experience with them or can tell me if their size would be suitable for 28mm vehicles?

Thanks!

Battlefront's I don't know about, but I've used K&R's 15mm rubber roads with 28mm. They look OK for width; they're narrow roads rather than wide ones, obviously, but they don't look too under-sized.

BF's do have very distinct trackmarks which might not scale well though; maybe de-emphasise that with careful painting?

If you're not set on BF, you could look at Early War -- their roads are targeted for 20mm which would be less of a scale jump: they also have a variety of surfaces (track, cobble, tarmac) and interchanges between them -- I have some of the even smaller rough tracks and, although the ruts are a bit narrow, it doesn't actually look wrong for 28mm. The wider "open roads" range is very suited to 28mm.

Yes they are - I use them as 28mm rural tracks. Perfect for one vehicle wide.

and their cobbled roads are OK too

most of the rural roads in 1940-1945 in western Europe were even smaller  lol designed for Simca 5/Fiat Topolino  ;)

Necro,
have a look at the Early War Miniatures range of roads. They're designed for 20mm miniatures so less of a stretch to use for 28mm. They've got some neat pieces also, like roads blasted by shell fire. I have some 15mm latex cobbled roads, and yes they can be a narrow cobbled street in 28mm but they're not really wide enough.

Glad you like them Necroplayer.

I have not posted my stuff here before as the standard of photography and painting on here are way above my modest efforts, but it does at least illustrate the roads in action.

I think they work well enough in 28mm for me not to buy new roads when I switched from 15mm
