Simba Matthews for me.

Simba was a big bad tomcat, who used to attack and drive off dogs from the yard. He never took crap from anyone or anything.
And in the fury of this darkest hour
We will be the light
You've asked me for my sacrifice
And I am Winter born

Matt, you have to read out many of the names in american tongue or the jokes are completely lost (if there ever were any). I have found these in several places and, not being born into the lingo myself, I had to read them out loud several times before gettin' it.

Rhoda Booke and Rita Booke (pronounced in Brooklynese) are good examples of this (eventhough Booke sort of gives it away) while Norma Leigh Lucid probably works in Kings English to.

8-Ball Miller

Kind of makes me sound like a guy with a nose-candy habit, or somebody who really needs a lot of room in his shorts...either way, I just had to re-post that before one of you did..

For a female journalist in a Pulp Adventure, an old fashioned name might set it better in period.  How about Elke or Ethel?
