They are normally called "Milk Crates" here in the U.S.

Food warehouses or food stores would be your best bet.

Most of them have "X" beams now instead of the horizontal & vertical ones.

"X" beam one -

I have pictures from the other post, maybe on TMP? They did some using masking tape to make the openings smaller and more 'window' like. We get the 'milk crates' here from office stores since companies started using them for storage of files. Often, now, they've got 'lips' for file hangers.

I've even got some with interlocking pegs; good for making a wall of game cubes for sales at small game cons.

We can get them here in Denmark from 'Arla' milk, so it must be possible the other side of the border. If not send word and I'll see if I can get the Danish LAFers to help out.

Here in the US the stores are full of the things in the Back to School section. Of course they are in pastels other garish colors, but it might be worth checking out.

I have this crazy idea to build a large playing table out of these crates based on a Courscant or "Fith Element" New York where I stack these things rougly table high and then build buildings on top of the platforms.  I'd make some fo the platforms different heights and some of them would be connected by "tech" bridges and walkways while some would be isolated.  To complete it I would paint a drop cloth like clouds of polution so I could get some awsome top down photographs.

Could also be done on a table with fluffy wads of cotton and fewer crates.

I tried some similar ideas a while back, the milk crates are a pig to work with. If you can get your hands on a table saw or electric hacksaw you should be ok, but hand cutting them is an exercise in pain and frustration.

Cutting those with anything but a hacksaw begs for a trip to the emrgency room to re-attach a finger.  Be careful.

I used a dremmel (spelling?) tool to chop mine up. But, like Smokeyrone says, BE CAREFUL.

Crazy as it sounds I make most of my terrain with power tools. My only injury to date was a mild burn from a hot drill bit.
