Title: End of year tally
Post by: MagpieJono on December 21, 2017, 10:37:18 AM
Well I've packed my brushes away for the year. Unlike most people I unfortunately have to work nearly all of the festive period.
I've been keeping a list of everything I've painted this year. It's the first time I've done this and I've been pleasantly surprised by the results...
301 miniatures and pieces of terrain finished in the 12 months.
Wondered if anyone else also kept a tally and were willing to share their numbers?

43 terrain pieces and 289 miniatures done!  :D (33 miniatures were commissions though...)

Look at you industrious lot, you...  :P

I managed to paint a grand total of 58 miniatures this year, even though I had set myself a goal of 100. I might still have some days off between Christmas and New Year, with the wife and little one off to her sister's, so perhaps I can still lift my output up a tad before the books close.

I painted 76 last year, so I thought I might be able to pull it off, but alas; it was not to be. Apparently, real-life 2017 was a very busy one... ::)

Still; I'll be setting my goal for 2018 at 100 again :D

Is there some sort of conversion rate for 15mm to 28mm?  :D

I've done a lot of 15mm (well, for me). I'm going to have to root around and see if I can come up with a total. Come to that, I'm going to have to see if I can remember what I've painted this year in the first place!

I'm possibly in the low 50s for figures. I've been painting all year, so looking back on it, it feels like I should have done more :(

I built some scenery, then left it sitting for months and I'm only now starting to paint it.

I generally make plans around this time of year for what I want to achieve next year, so it'll be interesting to see what transpires. I've never actually thought about aiming for a total before, so I may give that a try...

But yeah, looking back, I can't help but feel there should be more to show for the amount of time and effort expended ???

I'm on (roughly) 310 and counting. As ever, I've got loads of half-finished ones littering various drawers, so a little push over the holidays might boost that number significantly.

I haven't included terrain (of which I've done a rather large amount this year), but I'm at 218 for the year with another 10 or so planned to be done.

Yes, there's that. Should I be able to finish everything I started this year, I might even approach my goal... ::)

I thought I'd done a lot, maybe not so many though after all (it felt like a lot!)

15mm: 140 infantry, 37 cavalry, 2 guns & crew, 1 giant, 1 bear rider and 1 stag rider

28mm: 61 infantry, 12 cavalry, 3 wagons, 3 pack mules

Terrain: 3x20mm buildings, 3xsmall 15mm tombs, Maybe 15 trees of various sizes

I feel sure there must be more, but maybe not. Some of the 15mm were a real slog. Still, the plus side is I actually finished a project too.

No idea....

I think that I have been more productive this year than in the past with miniatures, but the scenery has dropped off to virtually nowt.
Nowhere near as much some of you, though!
 :o :o

Gonna have to go and start counting now.

I would encourage anyone to keep a list. It's quite nice looking back and thinking 'ooh I forgot I painted those this year.'

That sounds like a plan as I reckon it may prove quite surprising looking back at the end of the year.

I think I'm going to start recording what I have done and making plans in advance, because looking back I think I painted 15 miniatures completely this year  :(.  Will probably start doing things as proper projects as well.

Had a quick scroll through my photos of painted stuff and get to about 850 figures, mainly 10mm, though with a good chunk of 15mm too, only about 20 28mm figures. I thought I'd also done 100+ epic space marines, but can't see a photo for them.

On the terrain front, a large desert fort (10mm) and a number of mdf bases for scatter terrain.

Photos hopefully available here https://get.google.com/albumarchive/114091746313103705211/album/AF1QipMOQ8uksPOR6CQ9O2YUiMXimwvyyzZxRFIqiPx5

So far:

13 Terrain Boards
9 Large Terrain pieces (and about 30 smaller scatter terrain pieces)
82 figures (28mm) including 6 mounted figures.
1 Vehicle (and 1 submarine)

About 40 figures waiting to be finished.

1 Project started and completed, two projects added to and and two thought about but not yet started.

That is about par for the course, although slightly down on the number of miniatures I usually paint.

Depressingly few. Done basically none of my stuff since summer. It's one of those lean periods again, I suppose!

I managed 66. It's the first year I actually tracked them, feels pretty nice actually.

Not a bad year for me.

Rounding out I painted:

200 WotR  Perry figures.
55 Walking Dead figures.
120 AWI figures.
80 WWII figures.
60 Blood and Plunder pirate guys and 2 of their ships.

Total 515 figures if my math is right.
Also a few tanks and other odds and ends.
Sure I am missing some, but that is pretty close.

PS  Forgot about 35 US Army figures for Blackhawk Down game. :D

A succesful year for me. 327 figures painted, 5 buildings built, 40 games played. I've been tracking it for about 3 years. All figures count as 1 15mm, 28mm, 40mm. I also count horse and rider as 1.

659 28mm figures painted, two buildings completed, 59 games played, several articles written for Wargames Illustrated, an average year since retirement.

I keep an overall total of figures painted and still to paint but not by the year so I guess this year is about 70. All 28mm. It used to be a few more as an average but lack of gaming opportunities gives me less motivation. I do find painting a bit of a chore.

It’s funny, I have no problem prepping and undercoating. It is just those first basic colours I struggle with. Once at the washing and shading stage I quite enjoy it. I also like basing.

1,700 figures,
93 vehicles,
34 artillery.

But that's 6mm for you  :)

Holy crap, the ammounts listed here are jawdropping.

111 for me, with 4 more on the table I hope to finish before the year is through.
Also a piece of terrain I put a lot of time and effort in.

last year was 153, but with moving house this year and starting a new job that sapped a lot of time and energy I don't think I can complain.

Not weird at all. We all have the parts we enjoy more and less. I used to be all about sticking plastic together, but that has honestly burned me out. I now mostly want to paint models that differ from each other a lot.
