I've begun working on some flat tiles for a 15mm Star Wars project, based on the back alleys in Mos Eisley.
I've got a ton of inspiration for this project from two important members:

and

My hope is to make some easy 15mm transportable terrain. Here is the beginning:

I've already cut and textured the tiles.
-
Lovely job - those sketches are ace. I keep meaning to buy an isometric drawing pad for sketching terrain. The idea of basing a crowd together is good, I think I'll try that. Can't wait to see this develop - particularly interested to see what you do got street furniture and clutter.
-
I am really liking those sketches! Did you use watercolours for the colouring?
-
I will need a few piles of jawa junk!
I just use a tone pen. It's great for shading black and white drawings. You can get warm and cool grays as well. I decided to add regular pencil crayon to help with the painting ideas.
I'm going to try and keep this project small as I am low on funds. I plan to repurpose as much as I can.

Well, it works greatly! Do you have a link to what you're using exactly?

Sounds neat.
Might have to steal that for the larger, 32mm Clix figs, and put some Sandtroopers on patrol to root out the rebel sympathizers known to be present there.
-
This looks interesting! I can't wait!

Made a little progress yesterday.

First off a few domes to tie in with some of my Brigade Model desert domes. I looked at a couple of screen shots from the film and I noticed that many of the buildings have smaller domes clustered in the alleyways. They will also break up the crates and pipes and market stalls.
I also made 2 junk piles. They are probably not dirty enough but at 15mm scale it's hard to see the details. I'll probably finish the ground tiles tonight. I think I need one more.
I also need to start my market stalls which I am dreading. I've made market stalls a few times over the years and they are always a fiddly mess!
I am trying to keep the number of models at a minimum. This is supposed to be a quick project.
-
Nice use of those Lego pieces :)
-
Looks lovely - 30cm square? I really like the boards you made for Star trek, so stoked to see this develop.
-
This is a tile from something else, although the color and texture will be identical. The largest tiles will be 6 inches by 6 inches, with lots of thin pieces for alleyways.
-
SOme progress this evening. It helps that I can work at lunch in the wood shop.

I finished the tiles, pretty simple mdf/spackle/rocks and sand/drybrush. They still need to be clear coated.
Finished some 10mm Brigade models domes as well. A little small but will fit in in the back alleys and half the price of the 15mm ones.
Some sturdier moisture vaporators too. They are not perfect copies but will work with my Westworld stuff too.
Walls from Angel Barracks. I will use the gate for the Imperial checkpoint.
I think I figured out the market stalls. I'm going to use pizza tables! Plastic, study and not finicky gluing.
-
Cool stuff!
-
These look great mate. Ace idea for market stalls - you mean the wee plastic things that come in the middle to prop the box lid and keep it off the toppings yeah? I'm stealing that idea.
-
I've built market stalls twice, and broke them twice. The pizza tables are triangles but they look reasonably sci fi. I have to dye some canvas for they awnings tonight or tomorrow.
This is a very doable, quick project.
-
Looks very nice, tempted to make some of my own. May I ask what material you are using for the tiles. I am ultraparnoid about warping when it comes to make terrain tiles. I did look at 3mm 1 foot square mdf but apparently they heavily warp.
-
It's 1/4 inch mdf, I've used 1/2 as well.
I've never had trouble with warping, although I live in a very dry climate. Probably best to paint or clear coat the backs as well as the fronts. I always clearcoat both sides when I am finished and I use a very thin coat of drywall filler. I get the mdf for free, so I am not choosy.
Good weekend for working!

I finished off the trade stalls/ awnings for the back alleys. I'm sort of happy with them. I put in too much effort in getting it all finished. They are in fact plastic pizza tables that prevent the box from squishing the pizza. I liked the triangular look of them and glued weathered linen on the top of them to make them look gritty. I also got to eat the pizza as well which is a big plus as well.
I also finished another junk pile for the jawas to scavenge.
All that's left are some pipes, some doorways, and some sort of billboard. I've dumped the idea of the checkpoint as I have a gate that will fill in nicely.
-
Very nice stands! And the triangular shapes really brings to that kind of "pointless and unpracitcal design" that really characterizes star wars. Well done!
-
Looks absolutely top - nicely done. Market stall have come out grand, I'm going to pinch that idea.
-
Very nice indeed - the quirkiness of the triangles works too. Just need to paint the figure bases to match the terrain boards now :)
-
This thread continues to amaze me! Great work!
-
Wonderful stuff! :-*
If I would be starting the hobby now, I think 15mm would save me from many storage problems... then again, it might just make me hoard even more lol

If I would be starting the hobby now, I think 15mm would save me from many storage problems... then again, it might just make me hoard even more lol
For me, it is a combination: I would never be able to have TWO sets of terrain (well, three if you count my interior terrain) in 28mm, still it takes up less space than one 6'x4' table with 28mm terrain (which of course isn't that strange, since my tables are 3'x2', 2'x2' and 18"x18").
In the end I get to hoard AND still be able to store it somewhat okay!
-
The secret I think is to stick to one scale. I'm currently down to 10mm and 15mm, which is sometimes compatible.
My 15mm stuff takes up a 1/4 of the space. I've also switched to skirmish games and no more collectible miniature games!
-
I was able to finish some scatter terrain this week as well as rebased most of my Star Wars miniatures.

My favourite is my Cantina band billboard in the back. I also finished some rubble, industrial pipes, pots, Imperial blockade and way in the back my crowd tile. The doorways and vehicle tiles are on order. I have around 10 more miniatures to rebase.
-
This is utterly amazing! Love it all!
I want some stormtroopers, unfortunately Khurasan miniatures only sell them to US customers...
-
Thanks for the compliments!
Hey Ockman, Highlander Studios does offer, what I think are better storm troopers. You just have to e-mail him. ;)
My troopers are from Rebel Miniatures, and I bought them before Highlander was offering some. They look pretty good, more like the first order troopers.
Al the Star Wars miniatures are from Highlander Studios. The imperial officer and r2 are from gzg. Leila is from Eurekas samurai range. The rest are from Khurasan miniatures. I’m hoping to get some better Rebel soldiers from GZG later.
If you want to know specific packs, let me know.
-
Very nice.

Started assembling some tiles and terrain for some rpg ideas. Lots of fun.

I really want a landing pad!
-
Lovely stuff (including that sketch book). Keep it coming!
-
Lovely scenery, CONGRATULATIONS! :-*
Oldben1, you have such a good eye for detail that you should be doing this in 28mm! :D
Are you going to use this scenery for SW RPG? What system?
-
This is utterly amazing!
...but if you don't want to be harrassed by stormtroopers, perhaps you shouldn't open-carry activated lightsabers in public?
-
My rpg is all home brew with a mix of 5 Parsecs, d6 Star Wars, and Rorys story cubes.
Thanks form the compliments!

Lovelly thread. :-* :-*
Following with great interest.
Hope you dont mind the pictures.
GZG figures transformed for rebel naval troops.
-
Nice work, I have to say that GZG miniatures have become my favourite 15mm sci fi company. What else have you been working on Rumacara?
-
Thanks Oldben1.
I´m working on some Highlander studios stormtroopers and a lot of aliens mainly from Khurazan to paint. These in 15mm.
I´m also doing a SW 28mm rebel group. o_o
-
This ended up being a lot more work than I wanted. I was hoping for something simple and it was kind of fiddly. I'm happy how it turned out especially considering it cost be nothing as I used Lego and bits lying around. I had the floor tiles left over from another stalled project. It's a lot simpler than I originally planned, although my holoboard is in the mail.

You continue to amaze. I would love to play on something like this!

The cantina! The cantina!

Exelent work !!!
Love the bar, I wonder if I could do A 6mm version.
All it needs now is some music

Wow. Very nice. :-* :-*

Stunning work!!!
Lots of beautiful attention to detail without being overboard and too "busy" looking :D

I am going to keep it simple as I want to move on to other projects. I also want to keep the 'look' of the Brigade Games domes I already have.
-
Cool, as always, Michael!
-
Landing pad design looks interesting.
Been wanting to make one of them, or more, myself.
Those precut, Styrofoam rings they have in craft stores, for making wreaths would work, if you want a walled, sunken pad, for more security. Just need to apply some good, solid putty over the exterior, to get the desired effect, and to protect it from damage. Cut in a sliding access door, and perhaps add some greeblies to the exterior, and top, to add interest.
They make various sizes, so should be fairly easy to find something to meet your needs, as far as spacecraft size goes. 15mm is certainly easier, from that aspect.
-
Hey,
I looked into the floral ring thing actually, I try and stay away from styrofoam. I couln't find the right size anyways,
Thank you everyone for the compliments.
Here"s what I"ve built so far. Ive also added some quick paint. I know my starships are too small, but the effect is the same. It still needs a ton of weathering, posters, and some numbers on the side.
I really want the pad to match my other Brigade Model buildings.

Does the job nicely :)
-
Very well done. :-* :-*
I need to do one for my SW stuff plus some buildings.

Finally finished this project, sort of happy. It ended up being a lot bigger than I wanted to house the falcon. I added some posters, landing pad signage, and some weathering. Not the best pictures, sorry.

May i ask what scale/manufacturer is the Falcon?
-
Wow, you should be proud of this excellent achievement!
You're a true inspiration!
-
Great stuff :)
-
Thanks!
It was a revell snap together kit that came out with the second to last star wars movie. It is too small really and has the wrong radar dish. I'm done battling the whole scale thing, I'll end up buying a kenner falcon and plunking it down on the table!
