Also reds wore budenovka hats and whites did not.

And even that is not always the case. I know of a case when a Cossack regiment, which went over to the side of the Poles during the Soviet-Polish war in 1920, wore budennovki, removing the star and sewing a white cross instead. The Reds called them "Crusaders".
