The setting and general feeling of Frostgrave has really hooked me. Being a perfectionist, I am working on quite a collection of miniatures for such "small" game. I plan to share my progress with conversions and painting once in a while.
Let's start with some soldiers. Nothing special here, just common kit-bashing and little bit of epoxy putty here and there. I love the versatility of the soldiers box and the number of bonus pieces on the sprue. Few bits came from various GW sets and Fireforge foot sergeants.

I am even more excided about the cultists box. Great dynamic poses, excellent detail...
These miniatures are actually intended to fill the ranks of my Kings of War Abyssal army. They will serve as Fleshlings - demon worshippers of various races. Because of that I have converted two cultist dwarfs and one elf.

Finally some zombies to cause problems - and also to boost my necromancer warband :)

Not sure about this one actually :)

I did do it, and it looks much better. Wasn't even hard. Just buy some of that sewing thread, use superglue, then when dry another drop and wrap the thread around.

Lovely work Paboook :)

Lovely kitbashing. They look great. Thanks for sharing

Sorry for double post.

My original Frostgrave warband is still in WIP stage but we have started to play anyway. Few pictures from yesterday evening when a necromancer, summoner, sigilist and illusionist met in the ruins of Felstad. Everyone had great fun. Particularly the illusionist had some clever tricks up his sleeve :)

Next time with snow battle mat and hopefully complete Frostgrave warband!

Very nice table.

We just very stupidly forgot to use snow battle mat :)

This picture from Quirkworthy's blog has changed everything. Now I am choping half-painted miniatures from scenic bases and waiting for a pack of acrylic bases. Anyone using the same trick? I am sure that classic style bases look much better on a shelf, but this will make my minies really universal. Although attaching hounds, wolves and similar figures will be quite tricky...

I've started to use clear bases now. My Bolt action figures still go on 2p pieces, but any new projects will go onto clear bases.
It does take a bit of work to remove the built in lead oval base which comes on some metal figures but it's worth it I think. I probably used to spend about 1/4 of the time painting the figure on the base but now I can save that time and pai t more figures. ..

You're not alone in this. As I didn't have any collection of fantasy minis, I started collecting some that would fit in various settings, and I also decided to give them transparent bases so they match the terrain.
For wolves/hounds and such creatures I would go with bigger bases (32 or 40 mm), I don't think there are 25x50 mm clear bases out there.

For Clear (or other colors for that matter) Acrylic bases you can buy them at:
https://undergroundlasers.com
He can also make custom bases and tokens. I have purchased custom Action Point tokens from him that he assisted me in designing for a game called Pulp City.

I have bought acrylic bases from Fluxlaserstudio. Many 25 mm bases and some 40 mm ones for large creatures. Nice product.
I am really happy I have decided to switch from classic bases to clear as the miniatures will be 100 % multi-purpose. I also like the effect on the table. The minies look great whenever I put them. My first thug and some non-Frostgrave miniatures for comparison:

I'll echo your sentiment re: chainmail bikinis ;) but more to the point, those are some seriously awesome conversions! Especially the crone, so little was actually changed but what you did change is utterly effective. I have that same Undertaker (though mine may be the Bones version) and I'm not sure I noticed the skulls, I'll have to take a look now that I've seen your example. :)
-
Those two are a bit nice :)
What did you use to sculpt the hair on the necromancer? Doesn't look like green stuff, some very sharp detailing on it too! Well done conversion.

There was a couple of skull ornaments on his gear. Sorry for misleading wording :)

I used to work with green-stuff but switched to epoxy putty by Tamya recently. I prefer the light colour and it doesn't bend after drying.

Amazing work, Pabook

My starting warband for the campaign: war hound, thug, infantryman, apprentice Rupert, thief, thug, Old Sal, treasure hunter, archer, crossbowman. They did quite well in the testing games and Old Sal is determined to keep Lady Luck on her side by any means - including human sacrifices ;)

Really nice figures! Love it man. :)

Nice!

Nicely painted figures.
I also love the clear bases. I use lead weights to weigh Plastic figures down, but if I didn't I would use clear bases for sure. Dang I really like that look.
-
Thanks for encouraging comments :)
My next goal is to paint creatures for level 1-12 encounters. Among them are these ghouls. Two of them are pure Mantic ghouls (just with the spikes removed). The hungry gentleman and the charming ghoul lady were converted with Mantic sci-fi zombies parts.

Those clear plastic bases do look great. What do you use to glue the figures to the base, without fogging the clear plastic?

I did considere pinning, but in the end I just use a little bit of superglue (small drop on each foot). It works well even for the metal miniatures :) Although I need to say I am quite careful with my figures.
-
If you plan to use the same style of bases, I highly recommend you to get similar tool. Razor blade is absolutly great for cutting metal miniatures from bases. I was even able to get this Oldhammer toad from its minibase without demaging its tiny feet! Just be careful, the tool is really sharp.

I bought my razor blade at a con. It is also called "universal tool for modellers" according to the box. Hope this helps!

End of improvisations with creatures! Today I will use my "true" Frostgrave rats, ice spiders, wolves, wild dogs, boar, bear, leopard, imp, small construct and ice toad. Next time undead ;)

Pity, that's an Ace piece of scenery.
Reminds me of the Dreadstone Blight (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BRG74VJTRBg/TO5t-IHRQTI/AAAAAAAAEFQ/Dq6ydO6wwTA/s1600/m1460945a_99120299018_DreadstoneBlight1_873x627.jpg) set. Also sadly OP.

Some of my latest conversions. The figures can serve as Frostgrave barbarians as well as Legends of the Fabled Realms Fellendorfers, LOTR Dunlendings (with the exception of the big guy) or ASOIAF Wildlings. The models are a pleasure to work with!

great to see you at work on this thread again.
I too have gone the acrylic base route.
wasn't sure about the tool you feature earlier in the thread, but a bit of googling has turned up this for US and UK buyers:
http://www.umm-usa.com/catalog/tools_JLC.html
https://www.modellingtools.co.uk/modelling-saws-216-c.asp
I should point out the US site says its not to be used on metal of any type ... but obviously it works for you Pabook in this context.
I'm interested in it, as I currently use keyhole saw blades with a hobby handle - works well, but requires more effort than I'd like to be honest. Wonder if your razor approach is quicker and cleaner ...
-
Those are some amazing conversions. Can't wait to see them painted!

Thank you for your kind words :)
I have never stopped, just forget to send new pictures :o

I really dig that Ice Toad with the disembodied hand! Other stuff looks great as well! Nice work!

We have started new FG campaign with a couple of home-made scenarios this weekend.
Chapter 1
Our wizards prepared for the long sail across the Northern Ocean to the vicinity of ancient Felstad. But suddenly a mad necromancer started summoning undead in local graveyard and wrought havock on the peaceful port! Our wizards had to put an end to old lady's doing and kill her henchmen ☠️

Chapter 2
Our second scenario was about monsters - probably running from the dukal ZOO in the panic caused by the mad necromancer (modified Alchemical Monstrosity scenario). We have both escaped and the elfs achieved killing the main monster. My illusionist Crazy Till proved to be less heroic and focussed on finding the safe escape rout 🤫

Looking forward for creating new adventures with my wargaming mate Dzhuro. Next time we will probably set our feet on the northern shores.

very nice set-up.
that jester gives me the heebie-jeebies ...

I am still trying to "go clear".... I followed the instructions supplied in another post.. I just don't have a blade sharp enough to get those bases off...
I absolutely enjoy basing as it gives a miniature even more character, BUT.. it also kind of "locks them in"... meaning if I have a rubble base for, lets say.... Mordheim..... it is kind of hard for me to use the model for Frostgrave Ghost Archipelago.... the clear bases free the model up to basically be used in any setting, which... is very cool!

Sometimes it requires lot of effort :o
I love the clear bases, but it depends... I am really happy with them in FG and Deadzone but have decided to use common style of bases for my LOTR collection. I think they work best in sci-fi setting - and can be slightly conspicuous in history/fantasy.

try one of the key-hole saw blades available for the xacto handles or the tamiya version.
bit messier and slower than Pabook's approach (which I haven't mastered yet either) but fairly reliable.
I've not 'lost' a figure's foot since using them.

I've used a sprue cutter to clip away plastic bases. Once I've clipped the base all the way to the foot outline, I either grind the bottom of the foot or just use the clipper on the bottom of the foot itself. Then sand flat.
-
I have been using the spru cutter and then trying to file/sand the base under the feet.... I think I need to try the saw...
I think the clear bases are so awesome.. and especially for GA as figures will be on boats, sand, stone, water, etc.....

Visiting dungeons under the ruined streets of Felstad. The terrain was completely home-made by my mate Dzhuro :o

Sorry. I have realized my last post belongs to general fantasy part of the forum.
