Looking forward to seeing those painted. Picked up a sprue of those from eBay and they are really nice figures.

With some GS sculpting, I can make the fallen figure Grendel's mother. Hmmm?

Hard to say.  Doesn't look much like Angelina Jolie at all.

 ;)

Looks great. Waiting impatiently for mine to arrive.
Overall, the kit it pretty good, but many of the bent arms suffer from SAS (short arm syndrome).  Also, the design of many of the shield arms is a bit wonky, making the shield poses look unnatural. I ended up using bits of greenstuff dowels, cut to shape to fix the SAS (I still need to sculpt over the extension with GS). For the shield arms I used all the long straight shield arm bits, and then for the rest, I used the 'wonky pose' or did some conversion work using GS dowel cut to shape.

Also, the scabbards are a bit too long, especially in comparison to the swords themselves. When attached to the model, they hang down to their ankles, even when attached to the model at an angle. I clipped of the rounded bit on the end of each scabbard and then re-carving the rounded end.

The kit doesn't come with any standards, horns, or command sprues, so I used the bear fur clad models as my leaders and used the horns from the Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors sprues to add more character to each unit.

I do like that they slightly toned down the wrinkles on the tunics, which can be quite absurd in other Victrix kits.

Speaking of too many wrinkles, yesterday I assembled my bow levy using the Victrix Dark Age archer kit. The number and depth of the wrinkles on these models is absurd! I ended taking my Xacto blade to each model's chest and back to calm the angry sea of wrinkles on each tunic. With that said, I LOVE this kit's variety of options, poses, and all the fun extra bits added to the sprue. Except for the wrinkles and SAS, this is one of Victrix's most brilliantly designed kits.

Because of the Saxon battle board and my Jute raider theme, I plan to use the bow levy a bit more aggressively than I normally do.  Consequently, I armed a number of them with upraised axes that I pilfered from the Unarmored Saxon Warrior kit, to make it look like some of these guys are just chomping at the bit to get into melee.

Thanks for your detailled feedback on these kits! I am glad to read that I am not alone in hating those exaggerated folds and wrinkles in the tunic...maybe the idea ist to make painting easier with using washes, but it's so annoying to highlight and it just looks wrong.

It was a lot better on some of the late roman archers and slingers set (which I love for this reason and I am using these torsos to make regular unarmoured legionnaires). I also find that just regular Standing poses are a bit lacking - otherwise they are superb and it's a joy to kitbash!

got to have animation in the poses...its not the 1970's anymore and these guys are 19th century British either

the wrinkles help with the highlighting/lowlighting although I prefer this on smaller scales personally

I agree 100%. It seems like quite a few plastic kits have over-sculpted clothing; and quite often just hanging wrong if not excessively wrinkled.

They are going to be one of my next purchases for the very same reason.
Already used the dark age archers set to create some extra spearmen.
Also loving the kitbash potential.
