What can you say but well done to all the chaps. the Grimsby Wargames Society proving that once again there is no alternative.
I was particularly pleased by the Facebook postings from the Newark chaps after the event:
https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=partizan%20wargaming%20and%20historyThe decision for the best demonstration game at Partizan was rather more difficult than that for the participation game. In the end it came down to a straight choice between two games from the same club - the Grimsby Wargames Society. Both games were visually stunning - not least because both were huge - but again it was not just the lovely painting and detail that swayed the judges decision but the inclusive attitude of those presenting the games.
There is sometimes a criticism of demonstration games that they do not engage the public but that is certainly not something that could be said of the Grimsby boys who went out of their way to draw in the public with leaflets and display boards and then seemed to spend much of the day explaining the battles and generally chatting with the public. The games were fantastic but the public engagement was equally peerless.
In the end, although it was a difficult decision, the slightly more unusual nature of one of the two games won the judges' plaudits and so the Editors Award for the Best Demonstration Game at Partizan 2016 goes to the Grimsby Wargames Society for their 2nd Anglo-Dutch Wars naval epic.
